Media-Create: Sept 18-25

I think NSMB can surpass Super Mario land. It just needs 1 million more to go.

If it's averaging 200,000 a month, and it still doesn't have holiday boosts yet and then keeps legs after Christmas, it could very well be the best selling Mario not bundled.

Thank you wonderful sir :D

Wow, If I had a wooden nickel for every DS that Nintendo has sold, I'd have enough kindling to burn to keep my house warm for the rest of my life.

You know what they say: Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Or something like that.

Super Mario Bros. was never bundled in Japan

Time to go for seconds then!
A week has a little over 600000 s... so there has been a week where on average one DS has been sold every second. And normally it's something like one DS sold every 4 or 5 seconds. Of course in reality the sales are accumulated in a much shorter time before everything is sold out. :)

PS2 229k left to 20M...at this new rate after minna + pricedrop it should happen in november, it would be beautiful to see it the same week PS3 launches, wouldn't it?

Btw...PS1 LTD? I know shipped numbers but I wonder the tracked number...

nintendo taiwan says there's a ds lite shortage until mid october:

Nintendo Taiwan says NDS Lite shortage to persist for a while

Although already planning to import more Nintendo DS (NDS) Lite handheld game consoles, Nintendo Taiwan said that the current shortage of NDS in Taiwan will likely persist for a while. The second batch of the consoles is expected to be available in the middle of October, the company said.
looks like a result of having a decent amount available for pokémon.

Galactic Fork

A little fluff between the ears never did any harm...
Nintendo should use all that extra money to build a time machine. Then go back to inform their past selves to build more freaking DS factories... And maybe go further back to 96 and tell themselves to ditch the cartridges.

Why dont they just ship future produced units into the past? You know when theyre cheaper to make?

They're busy in the future with the increasing plastic shortage when the DS becomes REALLY popular.

but then there would never have been any shortages, and if there were no shortages they would never built a time machine and gone back into the past. NINTENDO TIME PARADOX. :|

Maybe they'll develop a game internally. Management Accountant Training: Bottlenecks and Capacity Restraint Optimization in 3 mins a day!

Nintendo must use the money to expand a little bit.

Du you notice that Nintendo is one enterpreise that doen't expand ? Always the same studios. The only big change is the creation of the new Studio on Tokyo in 2003/4, and nothing else. But they have a lot of money in cash. So, I don't understand what will Nintendo do with all this money if they don't invest it somewhere.

Their saving their cash in case of a massive failure in terms of sales?

Maybe they remember what happened to Sega and they're just paranoid.

So is it safe to say that the DS will end up having had hardware shortages for over a year? I mean, has there been a single week since December 05 where there have actually been more DS units available than there was demand?

There will probably be some on the shelves for Friday this week
as Nintendo has trained the population to look for the DS Lite only on Saturdays :p
, since there were supposed to be 1 million on the shelves for Thursday. That's still not a whole week, though. :p

I dont understand how the damn DS can stay up above 100,000 units all the time. It makes no sense. Even thier own PR bullshit about "grabbing new players" has its damn limit. This is ****ing stupid now. Is everyone in Japan buying a DS or what?

Well, just start by thinking about it this way: the DS is more popular than the PS2, in that it's both the hottest gaming machine for gamers per se and also a trendy accessory for non-gamers who want to brain train.

Then remember that for a Japanese family of four to play PS2 games, they only need one PS2.

...

So, yeah, there are actually probably tons of people who want a DS still who haven't managed to get one yet. I expect the total sales to top out well above PS2 levels.

Anecdotally; My friend in japan mentioned he wanted a Ds and that you cant find them anywhere cause they are always sold out. He wants to get FF3. He also for the last year told me he was planning to get a PSP. But now he wants a DS.

Yes, I have 11,164,712 too, but Media Create announced LTD numbers in April this year and since then we add the weekly numbers to those.

Looking at the sales graph, it's weird to think that DS wasn't always crushing everything in sight. That one week, Animal Crossing came out and the thing just blew up and never looked back. Those initial jumps from 50k a week to 400k must've made for entertaining MC threads. :)

If Nintendo contracted Sony to make the DSL, they would be better able to meet the demand and there wouldn't be so many unsold but sold 'shipped' PSPs :(

Nice numbers for pokemon, hack and dead rising. Just see those 80%...good good. Looks like X360 could have one title in the top10 again.

That Kanji Quiz 20k (12%) means >150k shipped? Ugh...

very good numbers for pokémon! given the shipments and the usual pattern for big ds games over the the first weekend, ~2 million in next weeks mc chart looks likely.

From some sites and 2ch, Nintendo shipped 1.2m total on 28th Sept. And new shipment will be 900k for Sat and Sun.

That makes much more sense than 2 Million, really. If Nintendo can sell out of their 900K shipment, than 2.1 Million first 4 days am total.

I didn't realize until I saw this, but apparently it's Nintendo rather than the marketplace who truly dictates which version of a Pokemon game sells more... No way buyers didn't snatch up every available copy of the games.

Once again the DS is going to get its butt saved before hitting <20k, with the new colors and number of releases that will show up in the next chart. Do people really expect it to top PSP's sales though?

that's what happend when you don't listen to GAMERS and think you know what gamers want. where are those NINTENDO POLICY LOVERs NOW (those who were saying that you don't need better hardware, and it's all about better games) :lol

So after seeing the performance of the best month, there's no hope for the DS ever catching up imo.
