Report: TIM BLAKE NELSON Cast as MOLE MAN in FANTASTIC FOUR

Of all the villains they have available with the FF license they choose Mole Man?

Fox. Stahp. You're drunk Fox. Go home.

It's like they're not even trying. They have Super Skrull, Dr Doom, Galactus, and probably a few more villains and we get Mole Man. I guess they poisoned the well with some of those villains but jeez, c'mon now, you can do better than mole man.

Pros:
Kate Mara
It can't possibly be any worse than previous FF films

Cons:
Having to hear people whine about a black Human Torch

So, not to be a stick in the mud, but I don't like the Human Torch casting. Not for the reasons you're implying though! I just like that Sue and Johnny are siblings, and now we either have to have some weird concocted explanation for why one is black and one is white, or they're just not going to be family...

I wasn't there at the casting calls or anything, I'm sure they know better than me, but why couldn't Michael B Jordan have played Mr. Fantastic, or the Thing?

Still have high hopes for this movie just because I liked Chronicle so much, and it can't be any worse than the previous two F4 movies...

Does there REALLY have to be a "weird concocted explanation"? I can think of a simple alternative, ie. They are brother and sister. No need for an explanation.

There are plenty of related people throughout films which are visually clearly not related. There is no need for an explanation in those circumstances.

I'm trying to come up with an argument, but I got nothing. It's probably fine to just never even bring it up.

Don't they have to start filming by July or they lose the rights? I know complaining about this movie is probably getting grating for some, but its really hard to not expect a disaster given the prior two movies and the perception that this movie is getting rushed out the door to meet the deadline.

Are you seriously suggesting that they just ignore that they are clearly two different races and siblings just due to other movies being similarly lazy? I think it is a weird casting choice as it is, but they could easily explain it with adoption.

This, does Gawge even know how is babby formed?

Seriously this. People that are part of adopted families are still part of a family. There doesn't need to be any change in the relationship there (just please don't make it like this white family saved this black kid from the streets by bringing him in. That's all I ask.).

So I actually read the linked article and he isn't even going to be Mole Man in this movie. At least according to the article. It says it is just to set up the possibility for a future film...

So I guess Doctor Doom is still the only planned villain, as far as we know.

September, but shooting starts this month so it's a moot point.

AFAIK they have to show proof that they're filming by july, if not by september they lose them.

Then again i don't know anymore how this works. I've heard so much this and that.

Show off.

To respond seriously though, this film has looked closer to Ultimate FF than 616 FF in general so, if they are going that route, they could very naturally give him screen time at a stage prior to his character turning villain. Ultimate Mole Man was originally a researcher within the Baxter Building, the school / think-tank attended by Richards and Storm.

Which one is adopted you think?

If one (or both) of the Storm siblings are adopted, I await the inevitable shipping of Michael and Kate by the internet community.

So by your logic, adopted siblings aren't actually family?

This is so fucking weird. With all the problems I have with the casting, black/white Storm siblings is not one of them.

There's no "stupid explanation" needed. It takes like 5 seconds to point out that one of them is adopted.

They don't have to explain anything. They say, "We're brother and sister" and audiences will accept it. They don't even need to say that at all, actually. Any smart person watching would think, "Ok. They have the same last name so they're definitely siblings."

Everyone in here acting like a black man can't be a white woman's biological brother? Well, check these twins out:

Audiences bought that, they'll buy anything.

Mr. Fantastic should have been chinese. Then you have Latino thing. Black invisible woman with her Samoan sibling human torch. And a white Dr Doom.

Does it matter? Unless they introduce their parents it wouldn't make much of a difference.

So much is wrong with this post.

One, the same last name does not always mean siblings. If someone was watching a movie and it had a black guy and a white girl with the same last name they would probably assume they are married. Going by your scenario where they don't even need to mention that they are siblings, at least.

Two, those kids resemble each other even if their tone of skin does not. Michael B Jordan and Kate Mara do not look similar at all. Also it was an extremely rare circumstance that resulted in the twins, not to mention both parents were half black and half white.

Three, I hope you aren't serious. Considering that whole movie seemed to be based off that visual gag. Also even then it was the result of some weird experiment. But I am glad you think the Fantastic Four should put in less effort than Twins. Which to be fair at this point is probably true.

I did too, but that didn't happen so I assume it's supposed to be this month now :lol

Yeah well that's my point. They pushed the shooting date because they weren't ready to start shooting. It's possible they could continue to be not ready to start shooting. We just have to wait and see...

RE: Sue and Johnny

It doesn't matter at all that one is white and one is black. They could still be siblings. There is 0 wrong with that. In fact, I'm sure both actors could play the parts well. It's the rest of the cast I'm more concerned with. Plus the altered character backgrounds they are going with. That's what is making the Fantastic Four very much not the Fantastic Four...not Johnny being black.

Hmm... "at all" is simply not correct. It is of course possible, just very unlikely. And when making movies like this, there should be limited number of very unlikely events, unless they are a plot point. But if the director wanted to hire his friend, and if that meant changing the character backgrounds, then that was his choice and it's pretty pointless to complain about it.

In the comics Sue and Johnny being siblings and Sue and Reed being married gave an another reason why Ben felt like an outsider. The director may even leave out this part of the story, and make Ben a happy Thing. Would be an interesting twist.
