Welcome to the bald, manlier version of Mens hair.

Should I go to a Salon or Barber?

Long story short, no reason to go at all. You are bald! Matter a fact is, maintaining a clean
shaved look is a double edged sword. Its easy to accomplish at home with simple tools,
but it can become very high maintenance depending on how many times a week you have
to shave it. Cost also comes into effect if you opt for a Barber/Salon.

This is not you anymore.

Am I going bald?

Going bald can be a very strenuous experience. Its common knowledge that losing hair is linked to
depression particularly in young men, and its understandable why. But one can argue that it all comes
down to habit and the unawareness of what can be achieved with a proper bald look. Once you know
how good you can look, its hard to go back, even for those who have a healthy head full of hair.

Bald men need to take special care of their scalp. Whether bald by choice (from shaving) or simply as a result of thinning hair, bald scalps are susceptible to sun damage, windburn, allergens, acne, irritants, chemicals in the air and water, extreme temperatures, and other run-of-the-mill events that often have no effect on men who aren’t bald. In addition, bald men who shave need to be concerned about razor rash, razor burn, razor bumps, nicks and cuts on the head, and other discomforts. Here’s everything you need to know about basic scalp care for bald men.

Keep it clean
Scalps can get dirty, just like your hair once did. When they’re dirty, bald scalps build up excess oil that can lead to blemishes, pimples, and other skin issues. Wash your scalp every day and apply a gentle moisturizer if your skin seems dry.

Ward off acne
Did you suffer from acne as a teenager? You may find yourself plagued by it again, but this time on your bald scalp. Acne results when follicles are clogged with oil and dirt. This leads to inflammation, which results in pus-filled pimples that are commonly known as acne. Treat acne flare-ups with an over-the-counter acne medication, and exfoliate the skin on your bald scalp regularly to keep it clean.

Stop rashes before they start
The skin on your scalp is delicate and can be easily irritated. It may react adversely to certain shampoos or fragranced soaps, wool hats, perspiration, and other things. Be mindful if your scalp itches: Apply an over-the-counter cortisone cream when rashes or redness occurs, and consult a doctor if the rash is persistent, spreads, or bleeds. Meanwhile, wear fleece or cotton hats instead of wool, breathable baseball caps instead of tight-fitting spandex, use shampoo or soap specially formulated for sensitive skin, and don’t scratch!

There's no such thing as healthy hair. Hair is basically protein and has no nervous system or blood supply and, as such, does not have reparative properties. The scalp, on the other hand, does. Since your hair is an extension of the scalp, it makes sense that a healthy scalp helps ensure healthy looking hair. For keeping that scalp healthy, follow these quick and easy scalp care tips for men.

Wash Daily
Keeping your scalp clean is key to minimizing clogged pores and other scalp problems. Use a gentle shampoo and wash once each day, working the shampoo into the hair and scalp for about two minutes. Don't bother with the "rinse and repeat" part. One good wash should be sufficient.

Exfoliate Weekly
Once or twice per week, remove dead skin cells and dirt from the scalp with an exfoliating scrub such as Menscience Microfine Face Scrub. A scrub made for the face is gentle enough to be used on the scalp.

Massage

Scalp massage is beneficial because it helps promote good blood flow to the scalp, helps to keep the scalp flexible, soothes nerves and relaxes muscles. Scalp massage also promotes hair growth and luster. It feels great, too. One each week, massage the scalp with the fingertips using a firm pressure in a circular motion. Place the fingers under the hair to avoid pulling. Perform this exercise for three or four minutes.

Maintaining a great looking bald head and caring for a shaved head takes a bit of work. Preventing razor burn and ingrown hairs and keeping the sun from wreaking havoc on your scalp are essential. Follow these three tips for keeping that dome looking smooth:
Shave. The first step in maintaining your bald head is to use proper shaving technique. Follow my professional advice for shaving your head.

Moisturize.
Daily shaving and exposure to the sun can leave your scalp dry and flaky. Remember to use a good moisturizer on your scalp every morning.

Protect.
The scalp is even more susceptible to damage from the sun than other parts of the body. Always use a good sunscreen on your scalp before prolonged sun exposure. Many companies make high quality moisturizers with built-in sunscreen, so check the skin care aisle of your drug store.

I'm grateful for this thread's existence. I'm 28, and every time I shampoo, seeing 10+ hairs against the shampoo foam in my hands is always a little disheartening.

That said, I've always admired the looks of a bald/shaved-head dude; they can be fucking sexy. My all time faves are some of the ones in the OP; Vin/Jason/etc. are some sexy, sexy guys.

I hope I can look like that when I bite the bullet and shave it all. I SHALL EMBRACE IT (I've gone for a buzzed look many times in my life).

/cheers

I buzz and it's "alright" but it's definetly coming down hard

Don't worry. We're just advanced men. A little bit ahead of everyone else. It will take time before every man is bald and baldness becomes the definition of a man.

Yeah.

Hairline's been receding since I was around 18, and now my hair's been thinning out on top. I've been shaving it with some clippers on the lowest setting for almost a year now. Kinda worried about using a razor due to the maintenance involved(and what happens if you jack it up).

yes I'll keep editing the op with the tips being posted along the thread

I personally use the hair cutter on the lowest setting to achive the statham look, and a simple anti dandruff shampoo.

Razors scare me.

26 here, and even though I still got all my hair more or less, I keep it buzzed and have been for most of my life.

On the other hand, I've got almost no facial hair growth, so my options are limited in that regard...

I think Humberto Tan has got a great bald look:

I've been using razors for over a year now.
I've started to notice I get small bumps if I one of my shaving days is too close to the other. I have instead decided to just use the trimmer on the smallest setting and use the razor for 'special' days (e.g. interviews/etc.).

However, I have seborrhoeic dermatitis potentially (which is partially the reason I lost most of my hair at a young age) and I don't know if that's the actual reason. I will be seeing a dermatologist soon.

Pro-tip:
Make sure your shaves are at least a week apart. Also use good oil. Olive oil will do, but use it and use it as soon as possible after getting out of the shower.

Edit:
We should have testimonials of shaving!

People lose up to 100 hairs a day. We also start new growth on up to 100 hairs a day, too. Don't worry about it.

If you use product in your hair, it could also cause loose hairs to stick to your head, when they would have naturally fallen out over the course of the day otherwise. When you take a shower, you'd see them all fall out then at the same time.

But my friends say short hair doesn't suit me :(

I'm thinning out and receded on the left and right sides, though long hair can cover my forehead.

I also feel my face is too round, and my hair seems to give it a better shape.

Statham looks hawt for a balding dude though, but that's because his face is cool.

What can I do to reduce or fight back hair loss? My hair isn't at the point of no return. Is it all just genetics? Wont technology solve the problem 10-20 years from now?

After rocking my head bald for about two years, I've actually just started letting it grow out again. Still have a full head, but I do wish my hair line was better, the receding line makes my forehead massive.

Going bald sucks, it happened to me while I was still in high school, and it was happening so fast and aggressively for me it felt like I didn't have enough time to cope properly. in like a year the corners of my hairline crept up like an inch giving me a Vin Diesel type of hairline. I had started to cut it lower and lower, and although it didn't seem like most people noticed my hair loss, it didn't stop me from feeling self conscious about it.

After I got out of high school I took it the next step and shaved it off because I was tired of fretting over it, and honestly it was liberating, like I was letting go a shit load of baggage with it. I found that even after going bald, no body seemed to pay it any mind, and some love actually love a bald head lol. I don't look too bad with a buzz either (it's buzzed right now actually), so I switch up sometimes, but being bald ain't that bad, and it's ALWAYS better to let it go early instead of trying to cover it up; you'll always end up looking weird trying to hold on to it.

Probably going to lose a lot of my hair at around 30. I'm attempting to enjoy my extremely thick head of hair until then.

I'm not balding, but I've had always had a pretty high hairline. Makes my forehead look big, so I've always countered it with long bangs. Not sure what I'd do if I went bald since I look pretty stupid when I comb my hair back. Baldness doesn't really run through my family, thankfully.

It's easy to say shaving your head is a good look when you look like the guys in the OP pictures. If you've got a big head and round face - and you're going bald, it fucking sucks.

Was going to post this.

I'm happy there's a Baldies OT, since I'm bald myself, but in general I have to frown when people come up and say "being bald ain't so bad! Look at how good Bruce Willis / Jason Statham / Zidane look! It's a great look!". No, the hell it is. You only look good bald if you are already good looking to begin with. For 99% of the human population being bald sucks because they'll look like this:

It's like saying that fedoras are awesome because Jon Hamm looks good in one. Well yeah, he's Jon Hamm. You could dip him in tar and cover him with feathers and he'd still look good.

Shave that motherfucker. Even if you think your head will look weird shaved, it will look even worse with bald spots. And seriously, unless you're some freak of nature you're not going to look even a third as bad as you fear.

Was going to post this. Not everybody has the head and face shape for shaved heads.

I shaved my head a couple of years ago and loved it. Kept it that way for about a year, but then got lazy and let it grow out for a few weeks. My family kept falling all over themselves complimenting me so I realized they didn't like it and kept it. I miss being bald, particularly with summer here.

While it's true that not everybody looks like Statham or Willis, most people won't actually look as bad as they fear, and will probably look better. You can always go back, and I think my hair grew back thicker.

25 and I am getting the typical bald spot on the top back. Is it just a matter of time before I start losing the front too? Im thinking a really low buzz cut with some stubble will be the best look for me with a bald spot. How do you guys feel about hairstyles with jusg the balding in the back?

I do want to make it clear: shaven always, always, always beats balding with bald spots.

Always.

That's how it started for me. Eventually the front caught up when I turned like 30.

My father and his father were bald, im 29 and still no signs of balding, I thank the gods every day, I don't have that facial structure to look good bald.

Some men can pull it off but very few imo.

It's supposed to be your maternal grandfather you take after afaik.

I shave my head and face every other day. So one day is nice and clean, the next is slight stubble, then back to clean again. Schick Hydro 5 rules.

Unfortunately for me I'm 23 and I'm pretty much bald from the top. It was really depressing at first as I had long hair till I was 19 I'm a bit of metal head but when it was starting to thin out it was so noticeable. So at 21/22 I decided to shave my head and grow a goatee/beard and I'm all good.

It's no fault of mine it's in the family, my father went bald by the time he was 25 and my brother whom is 5 years older than he still has bit more hair than me but has what we call the island on top.

I did consider treatment but it'll be just pointless if it's in the genes. I've tried different shampoo and other stuff like vitamins to help hair growth but that's just made my beard grow quicker. I've accepted it and I'm happy with my life rather focus on the gym and get healthy than piss about with my hair.

36 in a month, been shaving my head to 1/8 inch for about 15 years or so, and finally starting to lose it in the front. Never thought it would happen, but I noticed it a bit the other day when I cut my hair. Definitely starting to recede.

funny this topic came up.

I have loads of hair but I noticed near the rear center of my head, i's starting to ge thin :(
I'm on 28 going on 29!

*sigh*

I guess I should be lucky I'm not going completely bald (near the forehead and back)

I'm double cursed, I inherited a bald spot in the crown and very fine, thin hair. I usually kept it parted, weighed down with product, but I made the decision last week after mulling it over for weeks to just buzz it all down. Not wanting to go too short, I started with a 3. I'm very happy with the decision. The wife loves the way it looks and more importantly so do I. I picked up a set of Wahl clippers to maintain it myself, and I'm considering going down to a 2, since it still feels slightly longer than I originally wanted.
