I've enjoyed my time with TOW2 way more than with, say, Avowed.

But the PR and the release window is a straight-up sabotage form MS. TOW2 could've been the perfect jan-feb game with lots of fixes, but no, it was thrown under proverbal bus of high-profile games, including SP openworlds like Yotei.

I gave it a shot, and I ended up feeling the same as I did about the first game. It's a bland, forgettable 6.5/10 game. The writing is nowhere near as funny or clever as it thinks it is, and I found it impossible to give a fuck about any of the characters or factions because everything is some stupid caricature.

On the plus side, every single skill, trait, party member, etc can unlock new dialog options and give you new ways to solve quests. You can kill every character in the game and it will account for it. But that all felt wasted because I just didn't care about anything or anybody in this game world.

Microsoft really fucked up charging $70 (after dropping it from $80 LOL). Yeah OW1 was successful and sold over 5 million copies, but the overwhelming sentiment around that game is "meh". I think they vastly overestimated the appeal of the franchise.

Currently the #245 best selling game on Steam:

List them.

At least good indie ones.

Will give them a shot to find out.

Least better rpg makers than Obsidian of today?

Cdpr, Owlcat, Larian, Harebrained, Warhorse, Za/um (although we ll their next game now that the founders are gone), Sandfall (obviously i guess), Fool's theory (the thaumaturge), Just2d (drova), Atomteam (both atom games and now swordhaven conspiracy in ea), Iron Tower studios (Colony ship , Age of decadence), Tactical adventure (solasta, Solasta 2 incoming), Stygian software (underrail ), Inxile, Questline (Tainted grail which is more of the Newobsidian formula but done much better). Those from a cursory look at my steam rpg category. Probably more if you count PS games and more if you count jrpg's (which you should).

Alot of the indie ones are what Obsidian used to be. Overly ambitious which resulted in some times broken games but brilliant in their own way.

Tried to add a bunch of indies which you may like since a lot of them are different.

I'm enjoying the game but I'm barely on the first planet and a bit confused by the games systems. But it seems really solid..

Performance is really good for me too and it looks decent.

And yes I paid full price for the version that comes with 2 DLCs. Don't care.

Fitting to the games satire riddled themes of capitalism-bad.

I do think it's a somewhat decent rpg hidden underneath it all. So might pick it up in a year or two if I can get it for >$10.

Pretty much my exeprience, a good rpg but i didn't gave a single fuck about anything in their world, bailed out after 20-ish hours.

So is Battlefield 6.

Obsidian need to start taking risks with their projects. Instead of releasing a boatload of games, they should cut down production on 1 or 2 of them so they can have more people focusing on 1 title so that they can maximize the quality of said title. Their formula for RPG's feels like something out of the early 2010s when other developers have already taken that formula and advanced it beyond what it was.

I wouldn't mid this as a lot of great games came out then and unlike most here, I don't gaf about wow zib bang graphics Ala ray tracing/hdr/4k or some shit. Just develope a fun game.

The problem is obsidian went woke af and are in deep with the blue haired crazies. That coupled with niche titles makes even a hardcore rpg fan like myself say no way. It's a shame as I used to buy all their games. Alpha protocol was one of my faves from them but it's clear they are not the same studio.

I can't think of a game that came and went like OW2.

It's a game that shoud have had SOME excitement attached to it...but crickets.

I blame Microsoft. Somehow everything under them gets underhyped and underperforms. Despite deserving to sell well (Indiana Jones, Doom Dark Ages) somehow people just arent interested.
