A part of me wants to believe that the exposure these kind of people are getting is simply due to the mass information technology era we live in, in other words we've always had imbeciles like these but nowadays we actually have to notice them.

That is the answer. But still....

Pretty likely. Just like how social media penetrating various societies is helping to communicate government corruption or abuse. Hopefully the more these sort of opinions are exposed to wider audiences, the more they are ridiculed and driven into oblivion.

Every country has its own brand of nutjobs but the most vocal ones come from the US unfortunately.

Really? You mean to tell me that the nutjobs in America are the worst/most vocal out of any country? How about people in China literally destroying the crap out of people's Toyota's on the street in protest over that island issue with Japan? What about people bringing down embassies? Have you ever seen a protest in India or Pakistan? It's not just vocal. It's people making effigies and lighting them on fire in the street.

People really need to open their eyes. America could vanish tomorrow, and the problems in the world would still be there, people would just find another scapegoat.

If you think those tweets are bad, you didn't monitor what was said during the Israeli-Gaza conflict by people all over the world.

So a few people who made a racist tweet sum up the entire nation?

9 ppl out of 310,000,000.

damn even worst than lightning strike!
You're missing the point if you thought that's what this thread is about. I'm not implying all Americans are racist. It's an example of patriotism done wrong.

Dude, I live in Saudi Arabia. I've seen far worst human rights abuses and protests gone wrong than whatever you've read about on the news. I never said Americans are the worst. It is a fact that Americans have a bigger platform to state their opinions. That's all this is about. Some shitty opinions spouted by a few idiots. Just like those Christmas spoiled kids tweets. Calm yourself. You're among friends.

Obviously not, but I don't think it's too farfetched to believe that there might in general be more fear of and racism towards "arabs" in the US than in most other countries.

Don't know about that. Fear maybe but hate and racism towards arabs is prevalent in many european countries. More so then in US, well at least from my anecdotal POV.

There was already racism against "arabs" in Europe centuries before the US even existed.

While it paints an ugly picture of a portion of America, it's more like "Internetz!".

You'd think that Twitter's character limit would make people more prudent and aware of their words, but heeeell naw.

wat? Have you been to Europe? As in, all the countries in Europe? especially France and the nordic countries?

Yeah sure, because there is only 9 dumbass racists in that country. :lol
