Metal Gear Ac!d Impressions

This being said, Im not a huge card game fan. I skipped Baiten Chaos
I'm going to assume you're talking about Baten Kaitos -- unless of course there IS some kind of card game about mayhem at a kiosk.

Little known fact: Sierra's "Jones in the Fast Lane" was released for the MSX2 as "Baito Chaos."

hey tetsuo, you know how the ticket system'll work for the upcoming signings? I still need to read that page you linked to ... apparently you show up early and get a voucher for the actual signing later that day? I think.

sorry for being late to the party in this reply.

i went to sofmap today and you have to purchase the game to hopefully get a ticket if they still have them.. then you have to go early, give the ticket, and hope you are one of the first 50 or so to actually get a signkai pass.

i would have done it had they had the premium edition, but they didnt, so I didnt. Gamer.Tv might be shooting the kyoto one, so I might just claim press and go there.

Yeah yeah, whatever the fuck that namco game was called :-). Leave it to CK to get orthographic on my ass... don't you have typos to fix in your book?

BTW: Baten Kaitos is officially going to be called Kiosk Mayhem from now on.

yeah, im not too big on the card games either. Card Fighters Clash gave it to me in the ass for a good 4 months daily once though.

dunno if it'll be better than Card Fighters Clash, but chances are it'll be the best card game to hit since then. im definitely looking foward to it.

Doh, that was my plan as well ... get the LE if they have it; don't buy the game if they don't... The writeup you pasted made it sound as if the ticket was only for the goods lottery only but I'm hardly suprised the signkai is linked to it as well.

At about 3 hours in, I'm really diggin it ... the gameplay seems well-balanced and good, and I'm a sucker for the MGS universe and character cards.

EDIT: There are some "character" cards from the first MG and the MSX Solid Snake with awesome sprite art on them. ROCK AND ROLL.

OT, but...

BATEN KAITOS IS NOT A CARD GAME!!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

But back on topic... are the controls the same in AC!D as the other MGS games?

hahahaha ... you are joking right

Acid is a turn based strategy RPG where you expend "cards" to perform actions

so the control scheme is somewhat different

No, I'm not. You see:
1) I'm dumb.
2) I don't care a rat's ass about MGS: 5wall0wing H0t Dual-5nake Man-AC!D... or any other MGS game.
3) I am too busy coordinating multi-lingual debugging + mastering up before Xmas&NewYears. I just finished Halo2 2 weeks ago... and I bought it and was ready to play the day it came out. [/cries softly to himself]

Hmmm... card-game based stealth shooting strategy RPG with homo-erotic action elements. Famitsu should give it a 40!!

Then why did you ask?

Why is there a region lock on the games while the PSP itself is not locked? That makes no sense to me. There must be some kind of logic behind that.

There is no region lock on the games...

There could be: the software facility is there for developers to use, if they want to use it. Sony is just not mandating it on any developer AFAIK.

Did I say anything which was misleading or false ?

I want a PSP as badly as anyone, but I am scared of importing for potential region locking done by developers/publishers themselves.

Well it wasn't like I was planning on buying it anyways. I hope it ends up turning out to be better than a few people have been saying it is. :(

I'm hoping that everyone is being overly negative on the title or it's simply holding out the depth of the card mechanics until you get farther into the game. I'm not a card game fan but I would love to see this game setting a new standard for card games in general.

No but you didn't say anything new either. LET THIS REGION LOCK TOPIC DIE PLZ! It's completely pointless since nothing can be proven either way and it's already been covered by the Official PSP thread several times, this is a Ac!d thread, let's keep it that way!

I cannot, the previous poster made a claim which is IMHO a bit misleading and I do not want other posters here or in other threads to be misled.

Why don't we just get a PSP FAQ page stikyed at the top?

Also as far as Ac!d goes, does it play at all like Phantasy Star Online 3?

Alright. Where the fuck is the c4 that im supposed to use. It says back in the research lab to the west.... but I clear that and no c4.

A little assitance would be kindly appreciated.

Is it in your card stash when you go to edit the deck? The game doesn't have any "items" really on the field, so...

P.S. just got back from event. super signing!

howd you get a ticket? did you pull a press pass or did you actually buy the game?

They had the LE, so I went ahead and bought it. Got Kojima to sign my US MGS3 (so it has both his and Shinkawa's signatures now) and Shinkawa to sign the SHAGOHOD box within the Japanese LE.

I also won a Kubrick in the raffle! Now I have two! THE TWIN SNAKES.

Only like 50 people showed up (he is signing in like 8 different locations in Tokyo, so it's not so bad). So showing up even just beforehand, you'll be fine I believe. You def. gotta buy a ticket to get signed tho, and a STRICT ONE ITEM LIMIT so be prepared. They gave out 10 18" figures and 15 Kubricks so there was basically a 1/2 chance of winning something awesome. Damn I wanted a figure tho!

Wow page 2 really turned to shit. Informative information on Metal Gear Ac!d found inside! I think I hurt myself trying to keep pace with whatever the hell is going on.

So has anyone want to talk about this game again?

in-depth gameplay impressions of mine

The story details are unfortunately off. The funny thing is they were correct, at first, but then I read an English-language story based on the TGS build to see if there were any details in that build I might have not gotten to in the first few hours, and their story details conflicted with mine. I figured I was wrong and must have misread it but, no, the other site was talking out of their ass and my Japanese comprehension is just fine after all.

Gameplay details are fine, tho. Although I did since discover that you can use the D-Pad in "birds eye" mode to zoom around the map, if in a N-oriented mode only. Even better, if you D-pad to a camera/enemy in that mode, it shows you what "squares" their field of vision encompasses, which has been a great help in figuring out how patrols and cameras work.

Im not gonna read yours until mine are up.. but you sound on track.. I was happy as hell to find out about the Dpad thing.

Dude, did you get the C4 part with the dead end and the wall? How do you get the C4?

Nice impressions. I'm happy to hear the Ghost Babel connection. That's just about the best Gameboy game ever made.

Haven't, yet; with US vacation in a few days all my spare gaming moments are going into World of Warcraft before we're forcibly separated. If you're still stuck in a day or two tho lemme know and I'll try to zip ahead.

P.S. did you reverse the box art? the underside is SUPER SWEET

Hehehe...just as I expected, very Ghost Babel-esque, but that's OK. I think you hit it right on the money when you pointed out MGS3 was just released and it was time for something different. A lot of people have certainly expressed their distaste with the departure MGA takes (at least, before playing it), but I think its perfectly fitting for a launch game. I'm quite sure we'll see a more full-fledged MG game a year or two down the road, once they get a proper development time. But considering how quickly MGA was made, in comparison, its good to know that it turned out pretty well.
