Confession time: Because I'm on Xbox, the only MGS game I've played so far is Ground Zeroes. I'm finally getting MGS2 and 3 HD, so which one would you guys recommend starting with?

3 is more related to MGSV, but playing MGS2 first is crucial to understanding the mechanics

I'd say MGS2, but try and see if you can play MGS1 in any way, since MGS2 loses most of its impact if you haven't yet.

Always release order. If you can't play MGS1/4 just watch a playthrough. And also play Peace Walker after 4 since that leads right into V. Peace Walker is part of the MGS Hd collection.

Verendus just claimed in the Silent Hills thread that there are plans from the top to bring HD collection to PC.

4. Good news for some PC MGS fans, there are plans from the top to bring the HD collection to PC. Not that anyone isn't expecting that, I'm sure.

This would be great news. Tora also spoke on this subject yesterday in the release date rumor thread:

Tora, how's the push for HD Collection on PC? It seems odd to leave PC players out of a good chunk of the story. MGS2 was the last game to get a PC release and that was, well... a while ago.

It's something we're definitely aware of, and I think the results of Rising definitely opened up HQ's eyes to the viability of the PC market, the quality from Rising -> GZ definitely shows interest internally from the team. But there are a lot of individual factors that make this port more difficult from a number of reasons.

As with a lot of other requests I unfortunately have to default back to, "The team is super busy working with The Phantom Pain, though this is a conversation I would love to happen in the future."

I have a GameCube, isn't The Twin Snakes MGS1?

TTS is an excruciatingly bad remake of MGS1. Please, stay away from that game. I knew it was bad but I never knew it was this bad untill I saw a complete playthrough of the game on uKnighted channel (dedicated MGS channel). I seriously cannot understand why anyone wold prefer a Dennis Dyack game over Kojima's masterpiece. It just doesn't feel like an MGS game at all. Kojima has also warned many fans about TTS before release. He also said that it is not canon and it's one of the reasons that the game is not in the HD collection.

The cutscenes look like they were made by a lunatic. Snake has always been very grounded in reality during cutscenes and suddenly Snake moves like a cyborg ninja, jumping on top of missiles and then leaping into the air to shoot a rocket launcher. Instead of hiding behind the wall from Meryl's gunfire, Snake suddenly does backflips and cartweels. There are so many other examples, it would be too much to list them all. They managed to make every cutscene incredibly ridiculous.

The VA is also horrible compared to the PS1 version. Jennifer Hale for example seriously sounds like she is just reading a transcript with 0 effort. The music is changed in many areas for no reason, adding generic techno beats and piano sounds that don't fit the occasion. Even the graphics are bad. It was made 2 years after MGS2, on much more powerful hardware and still manages to look like shit compared to MGS2. The levels look and feel very plasticy and soulless. I seriously prefer the PS1 graphics compared to the sterile and dead look of TTS. That game just feels like it has no soul. They also used the gameplay of MGS2 which creates such an imbalance in the game. MGS1 levels and enemy encounters were not designed with MGS2 type of gameplay in mind. The game is a totall mess.

But it's crucial to play MGS1 before MGS2. It makes the story in MGS2 that much better. MGS2 has the most ambitious and complex story of all the MGS games. The over arching story is absolutely incredible and still manages to be relevant today. Kojima is a visionary genius.. just play it you'll know what I mean.

You should definitely play MGS games in order of release so you can see the evolution of the series.

yes tora, please get the HD collection on PC, and rerelease the MGS1 PC port on Steam since it's already made and apparently of decent quality. Then patiently wait for the MGS4 rerelease on 2029

MGS4 is too big even for the PC.

Seconded on playing Twin Snakes if there's no other options.

Kojima once said about the Legacy Collection "When it's the next [Xbox] console, maybe we can release it."

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...or-lack-of-metal-gear-solid-legacy-collection

He obviously knew about the Xbox One back then so I don't think it was just an excuse. I think the MGS4 port to other platforms is more plausble than people think, but it will probably take a while because the work hasn't already been done like with the HD collection games. Would love to have the entire franchise on PC.

You could watch a story playthough of MGS1 PS1 too I guess, or buy the PS1 disc and use it on your PC.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Well Tora made it sound like it's a conversation that hasn't happened already. Verendus said there are plans from the top to do it.

Dude everyone could say that, of course after MGR, GZ and TPP they want to bring the rest of the series on PC too. News at 11.

I don't need to be an "insider" to say this. On top of that Verendus was in the thread yesterday when Tora was talking about it so he was clearly just copying him.

To clarify, I meant to imply that the conversation in the future would be between contacts like myself and Robert and our (KONAMI's) fans. Whether or not conversations have happened internally would be confidential info.

We all know all of MGS is coming to PC and current gen. Konami needs to make money somehow.

yeah. it's just a matter of when. but confirmations or indications of them being in the pipeline, especially a port mgs4, would be nice. maybe they are working on it and that's why they pulled the mgs games from psnow

HD collection being MGS2, MGS3, MGSPW, then yeah it will obviously be on PC eventually.

MGS1* and MGS4? Doubtful.

*There is already a PC version but GL trying to run it on a modern system

For MGS1 Konami could just go the Sega way and put an emulator running the PS1 MGS1 rom on the Steam Store. Now MGS4 is the one that'll take more time, but I'm sure Konami will want to release it for Xbox and PC.

They would need to remove some stuff from MGS4 as well. Like the codec about being on a PlayStation 3 system and using a dual layered Blu-ray disc so there is no need to swap discs. And the fact that Snake uses a Dual Shock 3 while controlling Metal Gear Mk. II

The Dualshock 3 could be easily swapped for a generic controller, tho I'd imagine Kojima would like the PC and Xbox versions to use an Xbox pad. The PS3 CODEC could be removed altogether, but again, I'd imagine Kojima would want to replace it with another silly thing.

In MGS1's PC port they left all references to PS1 buttons as it, so Campbell would still tell you to to press R1 to equip/unequip your weapon, or press the select button to open the Codec. In the subtitles they would refer to whichever button you actually mapped it to but the voice acting was left unchanged.

Yeah, it was a very bad part. You also had this Very Easy mode where you start with a silenced FAMAS, lol.

Anyone reckon we might get a flashback sequence where we play as Zero as he burns down Skullface's village?

I think Snake will be the only playable character.

And I don't believe Zero directly burned down his village. It was a bombing run as far as I know so maybe he ordered it but he didn't burn it down.

Skullface says in one of the tapes that his village was burned down by allied forces because they were making weapons to support their country in WWII. His face also got fucked up during this incident. Skullface's hatred for Zero might suggest that he had a lot to do with it.

Ah, I see. Well I suppose they'll show or at least give us some exposition on Skullface's origins.

I dunno, for the most part it was a decent port.

Very Easy with the silenced MP5 was already added to MGS: Integral which the PC port was based on. (It even said so in the title screen.)

That's what I meant, he probably didn't do anything but drinking tea.

Zero would probably have been a soldier during WWII, so he'd at least be drinking tea while on patrol.

It's still goddamn stupid that the James Bond nut who tells Snake he should get a snake-shaped gun and carry it around in an attache case ends up being this ultra powerful big bad who supposedly idolized The Boss, despite saying fuck all regarding this during MGS3. Then again, an idiot who thinks that Santa is real, has naked shower fights with Miller, and has a fetish for cardboard boxes also ends up being "the greatest soldier of the twentieth century", so what do I know.

yeah i agree. i think there was an argument about it in this thread. there's a small group of folks who seem to think kojima had this grand scheme planned from the beginning for some reason

I highly doubt MGS4 would ever come to PC, considering the engine is designed for the cell processor in the PS3.

I don't see how anyone can think that. It's quite clear he cobbled something together to make a sequel to a game that wasn't supposed to be explained.
