I was able to put in 10 minutes last night in MGS Ground Zeroes and the controls and mechanics seem all new to me since I never played a MGS game before. Is it safe to say that once I mastered the controls and mechanics for Ground Zeroes MGS V controls should be the same and I should have a great foundation.

I imagine The Phantom Pain and Ground Zeroes should control pretty much the same. There might be tweaks or improvements based on feedback they got from Ground Zeroes.

Yup. Probably the only thing that OP mentioned that makes plot sense is "Big Boss is Big Boss" and him being Venom because he's going in armed with lethal weapons in each mission thus making him venomous as opposed to naked back in 3. He's out for blood, basically.
Plot wise that makes sense but I'm sure there'll be players who'll go in with just a tranq or something. I should probably stop reading now before I explore that "Big Boss was cloned repeatedly during his 9 year coma" theory.
