Konami is planning to release a "MGS 3 Extreme Box" , comparable with the Documents of MGS 2.. but éven MORE detailed. ^^

newspost: http://www.playfrance.com/ps2-Metal...99336-Metal-Gear-Solid-3-The-Extreme-Box.html

sorry for a french link.. I don't know an english site who has this newspost.

From what I can understand: this MGS 3 Extreme box will include 4 DVD's with stuff like we already have seen in the documents of mgs 2.. (making-of, secrets, sound comments, explanation's of specific things through movies etc etc)

It will be launched on the 23th of march in Japan and the possibility that it comes to Europa are fifty fifty. (America will probably get this, whats the most important.. translated)

It will cost 9800 yen = Euro 70€ / USD 94$

I'll definetly buy this, although I'll wait for an American/Europe version. It's the 70€ worth imho

Yeah, let's compare anime to some "making of" stuff.

I don't know why you're being such a moron. Just so you know, for DVDs that are NOT even "making of", we're talking about an entire DVD with just trailers promoting a new show, it's 2500-3800yen. The Document of MGS2 is more detailed than any "making of" DVD I've ever seen, not to mention it has all the cutscenes for you to watch again and even manupilate. So for you to imply that 4 DVDs is remotely expensive, just shut the fuck up, obviously you don't know Japan. :lol :lol

You're the idiot who keeps bringing up and comparing it to anime. MGS does not have the same pull as anime, and we've already seen with The Document of MGS2 that it doesn't sell that well. Hell, The Document was only playable on the PS2, and is thus more of a game than a DVD movie, making your bringing up of anime even more retarded.

But I know Konami is just targeting the 100 (or 1000) ultra hardcore MGS fans (as opposed to selling it to as many MGS3 buyers as possible), which is why they're chosen this price point. That was my point, but I guess someone needs to feel important and be a smart ass and tell us how much they know about Japan (and FYI, I've spent 6 months in Japan, and have bought about a dozen DVDs while there).

I'm the idiot who can tell you that MGS has -more- pull than anime. Anime DVDs are priced as such because they don't expect many people to buy it and need to profit from those few who do, and MGS3 Extreme is the EXACT same thing. FYI MGS2 by itself sold 800k in Japan, and Zeta Gundam sold 800k copies across all 13 volumes. The promo DVDs I'm talking about are from series *far* less popular than Gundam. The comparison is valid, so I guess I'm not the idiot after all!

Actually, you would be the idiot for resorting to name calling and acting like an ass. I don't mind being corrected at all, but it's easier when the other person isn't acting like a jerk.

Going by your logic, my copies of FFX and ST should've cost me an extra 2,000-3,000 Yen, since both came with an extra DVD full of trailers and interview, but they didn't, which is why I don't think games and anime should be compared.

And it's not like my original post here was saying something like "this has never happened in Japan, nobody ever overcharges for DVDs there" for you to try to lecture me about DVD prices in Japan. All I said was that the price is nuts. Something can be nuts even if it's widespread. I know they're aiming at a tiny harcore market, and if this thing does come out here, I'm sure it'll be far more reasonably priced.

That is correct.

Yes I acted like a jerk.

Well actually that would only apply if said DVD was released seperately. :)

I agree, I was being an ass. And no it won't cost anywhere near that price in the US of course.

Many apologies, I'm just cranky + bored. :D

Hey, no problem. :)

When I first read the title of this thread, I was thinking it might not come out here, so I was wondering whether I should import it or buy it when I go to Japan next summer. When I saw the quoted price, I was like WTF?!, and hence my first reply.

I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that it comes out here at a reasonable price.

If that's 9,800 Yen just for 4 DVDs than they're nuts.

I pay up to $60 for 2 cd concerts from over there. Check this out... all YM concerts (official ones that were on dvd-vhs) released on 9 DVDs... $287.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=COBA-50836

Their 3 DVD PV set... $76.

http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=COBA-50833

That's why I laugh when people bitch about prices of domestic CDs. Sometimes you pay $12 for cds where I have to import them for over $30. :P

I remember some music shops in Japan having both imported and locally made copies of American music CDs setting next to each other, with the Japanese made ones retailing for higher, even though they're made locally. I think they compensate for that by making the Japanese made ones of a higher quality.

But I know that when I went to Japan earlier this year, I saw a couple of new Japanese movie DVDs heavily discounted (like under 2,500 Yen). I don't know if those were isolated cases or a new trend, though.

Sorry about the derailment above, let's get back to the topic!

Firstly, this NEEDS to get localized. I'm really not so sure about it actually being 4 DVDs though, how much could they REALLY show that would require FOUR discs? That just boggles the mind. MGS3 is just so awesome that this will be MEGA AWESOME for all fans. I'm really interested into the insight of the development of MGS3 and how ideas for many of the optional stuff or alternate gameplay paths came about. :)

Now that I think about it, what can they fit on 4 DVDs? The Document was very detailed, and MGS2 had more cut-scenes than MGS3 does. I guess they could put an hour long Making of documentary like the one that came with the European MGS2. It would be cool if one of the DVDs had some playable mini-games like an extended version of the Ape vs Snake or Snake's nightmare mini-games.

I want to see like a commentary (:P)
where they tell what all the plot twists exactly mean and what the motives of everyone truly are.

I would also love to hear more back story and insight on some of the cobras.

"My hornets!!"

disc 1 = full game
disc 2 = VR missions
disc 3 = MGS3 document, part 1
disc 4 = MGS3 document, part 2

That's my guess, anyway. I'm still weary of this news, 4 DVDs sounds a little ridiculous.

If this does actually contain the whole game (contrary to what the website is saying), then I obviously take back everything I said about the price being nuts. Hopefully the Japanese version of MGS3 includes some extra content, so that I can justify buying it (plus hearing it in Japanese would be cool).

After they just sold a $130 box to MGS fans I don't think Konami would suddenly announce a BETTER box 3 months later.

Also the price is way too cheap if it includes the game.

Yeah, that's what I thought.

So, did you buy MGS3? Any additions over the US/Canadian version?

Need to finish the game first and see if new things are unlocked like MGS2. Off the start the only difference are the unlockable camos from the First Bite/Single/OST (which Duckroll told me are hidden on the US game) and my local WonderGOO store had their own special camo which they copied to my memory card when I bought the game. Oh and the MGA link option should provide something new once someone beats MGA.

Also for the first time in the series the difficulties are exactly the same as the US and labeled the same.

Picture courtesy of Bebpo (right now he's THE FUCKING MAN!) who's on vacation in Tokyo at the moment. This confirms the 4 disc Extreme Box.

Disc1 = Superplay through Extreme mode

Disc2 = can't really read all of it since its so blur, but it talks about spoilers, no kill, all kerotan get, etc, so maybe some sort of interactive walkthrough for secrets.

Disc3 = Not sure, I see photo, remix, etc but can't make out most of the words.

Bonus Disc = Staff comments, audio commentaries, etc.

Booklet = MGS Trilogy information, staff comments and background information etc.

Unless there's more gameplay (which there MIGHT be), I could not care less.

What pains me is that the draw of MGS3 is not VR missions that take place in cold, indiscriminate environments (a la Substance), but the jungle. I'm afraid that, in staying true to *VR*, they wouldn't just simulate game design among trees and stuff.

No no, there's NO gameplay. "Superplay" videos are speed runs or experts recording their playthrough, etc. Should have made that clear. There's no "game" in this box, it's like Document of MGS2 except it sounds less interesting. :(

Yeah, I didn't see your post. Nevermind. :\

OMG I have to get this.

I just wanted to ask about the documentary of MGS2. I bought the PAL version of MGS2 and it came with a free DVD of how they made it and all the art. Is that the documentary or is the documentary something different.

Document is a PS2 software, not a movie DVD, it has a shitload of detailed making of stuff and it also allows you to watch any of the cutscenes in the entire game in realtime pausing or zooming in/out, etc at any time. If yours is just a movie DVD then it's the same as the preorder JP movie DVD with a short documentary about the game and the trailers.

Give it to me! I loved how The Document of Metal Gear Solid 2 had tons of the old trailer and concept videos, hopefully the same type of things are on this. And I want a demo theater for Metal Gear Solid 3! God only knows what little secrets are hidden in the jungle...

I hope they include more info on The Boss. I want to hear everything the staff has to say about her.

Eh, doesn't sound all that interesting, I don't really care about digital walkthroughs. BTW, according to another thread, Kojima said on EGM that so far there are no plans to make a Document-kind of game, because that would take them a year, so whatever is on the 3rd or 4th disc it will be a far cry from DMGS2.

You're a depressive guy, aren't you?

They should give this to anyone who bought the original for $50. These enhanced versions are bad for consumers who have already spent the money. Oh wait I'm sorry. That's only for Halo 2. Enjoy.

People have been complaining about upgrade versions of games since Square started releasing International versions of FF's last generation.
