Metal Gear Solid Community |OT4| God Bless the Chopper!

You missed out arguably the highlight of the series.

Even 3??!?!?!?!?!

Just not the biggest 3 fan. Although I do appreciate it more since playing V. I'm just saying I'd be grand if they were never made, not necessarily wishing them out of existence. I actually do think Peace Walker is fun enough since I liked the Mother Base stuff there (even though I dislike it in V) so it's not like I despise the Big Boss series. Just mostly felt pointless to me.

Ok, I need some input to resolve an argument I'm having with a friend. Obviously, MGSV is a great game, in terms of gameplay, but my question is, what do you think of it as a Metal Gear game?

(Personally, I think it's lost the Metal Geary-ness that I love so much about the series, but she thinks that most MGS fans don't agree.)

Its a game that is fragmented on purpose, so it certainly takes away a lot of the magic of the continuity that a lot of the MGS games are known for. Add tot he mix the fact that the game has pacing issues and is incomplete and jumbled up towards the end, then you get some confusing aspects, very few epic moments and a story that is hard to follow.

I think the foundation is there, and the pacing and story in chapter 1 make sense. But it falls apart soon after when you realize that something happened and the game had to be finished and everything crammed into
5
missions and random cutscenes that you can miss. Some of them that just pop into existence with no setup... so it looses any impact it should have.

Its not bad per se... but very disappointing if you are expecting an interesting story, with overarching characters and themes a la mgs. SO i can understand where you come from.

As far as gameplay, i love the idea that you make your own little mgs moments through the missions. Thats as far as i can go to say that the game does something cool in an mgs way. If that makes sense.

Haven't quite finished it yet (just finished mission
43
, but I'm still loving the story, and while it's a different style of storytelling than usual metal gear, I still think it's largely successful at accommodating the massive number of plot threads that are entailed in trying to "connect" the two subseries.

I do think skull face was pretty underused, and I would've liked to see more of him, but I'm overall pretty happy with how the game handled its story, especially with how much control it gives the player in how much story they actually want to experience. It always feels like we're figuring things out at the same rate as Big Boss, and I think there's merit to that.

Anyway, just my two cents.

GOTYAY as 2015 video game
Blows hot dick as MGS game

It's a spinoff Metal Gear game to me, but nowhere near the same class as Rising or Ghost Babel

It's fucking trash, mate. Every day I dream that I cut out the parts of my brain that store anything to do with it and wake up disappointed, just not as disappointed as I was with MGSV.

I wish Kojima was never born. He's ruined everything. He's the Bin Laden of video games and MGSV is his Twin Towers.

Playing MGSV feels like being fucked in stab wounds by a pack of wild dogs.

Define "Metal Geary-ness".

TL;DR

The 4chan picture about the dude who says, that he played the "ending patch" sounds interesting.
A few things he mentioned (on the 2nd September):
"Tedious part was in mission 53 but mission 54-55 has an epic battle with someone you might know."
"i told all of you people about mission 51 before the BTS uncompleted video came out."
"Many people are saying 9/11 but i think its false. Only about 10 people testing the Story Patch and 30 people are testing MGO. Usualy that's a sign saying that its not ready basically idk."
">How many missions in the patch? 5 missions
Is it free? Plans are Yes but may change"
"The aim is to release MGO first then Patch. So probably one or two months after MGO."

Come on, get serious.

I am serious. I think it is a stupid of Konami and KP to include an unfinished mission as part of the LE package if they weren't teasing something. It hurts alot less if they would have kept it to themselves.

That was my final note (acting as if I was a reviewer), a mediocre game with a side note "Practically not a Metal Gear Solid"

As far as I see it (subjectivity):
- It has no strong story, it's mostly a stand alone story, very poor narrative (that's a strong point of the MGS series to me, even though MGS4 had a bit too much). Also quite dark and graphic still less shocking than ground zeroes.

- Wasted side characters and even miswritten (I can't put my head around Ocelot in MGS V, he went from weird dandy in 3 to the most boringly normal guy in V to creepy pervert afterwards). Also they are completely useless in this game, you see them for like 2 minutes each and most often than not for a useless cinematic.

- No infiltration despite the wide range of tools you have. (gameplay stuff I wrote earlier in the topic).

- Very poor level design especially compared to chapter 1 of MGS4 (the epitome of infiltration in MGS) and ground zeroes (That was good but lacked verticality and traps)

The bullying in that gif is more controversial than anything in the game.

I have a feeling that the timing and the word contact is a riddle and also a meta theme that could unlock something in the game. Anyone else with me? I mean it seems very well timed to be coincidence. Kojima trying to communicate with us perhaps?

So what's going to happen to the Fox Engine? Does Konami own it? Will they just sit on it and let it waste away? Seems like a crime against gaming.

Konami owns it. We have seen now PES use the fox engine. I would think any other games will use the engine. No reason not to use it and expand on it. Maybe they will even license the engine to other studios.

Just imagine a world with pachinkos were instead of a static image on the back it has rendered animations that react to the pahinko doing pachinko things. If you do well, the pachinko would celebrate with you. If you loose it would be sad with you. Pachinko and fox engine could revolutionize the pachinko world. I think Konami is the right place atm to be radical and put pachinkos on the map on the west. All thanks to Kojima and the Fox Engine.

Thanks Konami!

Lol... just kidding. Fuck you Konami!

Nope. Konami have already categorically said they're not going to licence or even allow other any internal teams to use it.

I wanna believe tbh

EDIT: WAIT. Maybe this is it. The Phantom Pain. KOJIMA IS THE PHANTOM PAIN. The fans expect so much from this man. He's built a reputation for himself with the crazy things he's previously done and the fans have CREATED A PHANTOM KOJIMA. The real Kojima (Big Boss) doesn't live up to the legend that the fans have created. All these fan theories are never true. This is the phantom pain right here. People wishing Kojima would do something crazy (fans wanting to see big boss doing something crazy), but it never happens. Only as a phantom do these things exist and actually happen (Venom building DD and eventually becoming a demon). The legend Kojima (Big Boss) lives on with the fans and their theories (Venom). Kojima (Big Boss) isn't the legend. It's the you (Venom). The fan.

i always thought this was what he was trying to say in that tape where Kaz tells VS about the people talking about Big Boss and they make him to be a legend and they all want to get a nuke to deter and what not. and VS says they are stupid and they don't get what he was trying to do originally, and Kaz says "it takes a great man with the same ideas to understand another great mind" or something like that. It always striked me as Kojima talking about himself. but who knows.

It's excellent, the story is still strong but told in a different manner, one that fits an open world game better. This method also favors giving good doses of both gameplay and story.

There is still plenty of story but in MGSV it requires more involvement from the player in piecing it together via cutscenes, world, tapes and gameplay, instead of it just being a linear experience with super long cutscenes. It's also the darkest MGS that touches on many heavy themes and the fate of most of the characters is pretty sad.

All in all, I love all the MGS games and they all bring something new to the table, MGSV is no exception. Really glad that my fave series ended on such a high note.

I'm still on just mission 20. I'll never finish this game.

Focus on the story missions, the game is balanced in such a way that you don't need to grind to play through the main campaign.

Finished Chapter 1 couple days ago.
The fight was super easy. Retried it three or four times.
I shot Sahelanthropus with BMP and hide in the mountains.
Quiet and Pequod did the job :)
Quick question:
Is it true that to make an atomic bomb you can only use resources obtained through online?

So people on the steam forums are saying that today's patch removed the Golden arm and one of Quite's better unlockable outfits
sniper wolf
, some people are even saying it screwed up their save files.
I am afraid of launching the game and updating now.

Could this be another feature of the game? to emphasize the "phantom pain" experience?

Phew! I was scared that it's some rare shit for which to obtain you must play for a hundreds of hours.
I'm tired of this game. It's brilliant but I need to take a break. So started playing Oblivion PS3 version :)

They moved the outfits and arm to the FOB so you can only use it if your are connected to the servers.
