Metal Gear Solid V announced (PS360, open world)

I'm going to say some unpopular things now.

First of all, I think the latest trailer was a hodge podge of stuff with no focus. While the Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain tarikers had a clear narrative arc, purpose and they built a superb ambience, the MGS V trailer was just a mess of new and old clips with some ppt quality typography cut into a Cardigans track.

Second, the graphics are pretty disappointing. After seeing all the next gen stuff and recent PC games, I find it disappointing that so much of this trailer looked underwhelming. Surely they could have bumped up things a bit, done a high spec build that run on a Titan and would come to PS4 and use that for their assets. I really want a next gen MGS, to be blown away like MGS4 blew me away.

Third, I felt the much panned BF4 reveal was much more engaging. The graphics were spectacular, the narrative was interesting, the ambience was intriguing, I wanted to jump right in. Clearly MGS will end up with another league of a story and setting, but the trailer failed to grip me, which is especially damning given the absolutely obscene amount of settings, characters, assets and events they baked in - at it's current form the trailer manages to excite mainly the types of people who analyze every frame, contemplate on conspiracies etc.

That's all.

Kojima know his fanbase well, it's been a while since the last console mgs. this whole pr stunt of ground zeroes, phantom pain, and wtf trailer is a nice reminder of what some of us hardcore mgs likes from the series.

Hears a good question, there no doubt thats Ocelot
Why does he look a lot older then "supposedly" Big Boss

Totally disagree. It was made of 100% hype and shit was so beautiful it should make all men tear up.

Battlefield? Lol.

So Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain are different games.

Not bad, I'd rather get GZ this year and PP next year for PS4.

I would love this, although I think it will be prologue on current gen and then a multiple gen release (ps4/other) for TPP whenever the ps4 gen is rolled out. My thoughts at least. And my little heart prays for a vita variant lol.

Ocelot looks old for someone that's barely going to be 40, but he doesn't look older than big boss. He's graying and his moustache doesn't help either is all.

I think we definitely need another chronological order trailer recut like was done for the Phantom Pain but using all three trailers and the gameplay that they showed yesterday.

You have TERRIBLE taste, lol!

People talking about Ocelot, this was brought up before so I will repost for relevance, I think it's most definitely him.

Kojima already said they're the same game. MGS V is constructed with the prologue (GZ) and main story (TPP) together

"Ground Zeroes" is a prologue of "MGSV". 9 years after that event will be "The Phantom Pain". MGSV is constructed w/ prologue and main game "TPP". The game play demo I presented today is the opening of "TPP" which is tutorial that starts from crawling.

So if i'm understanding this correctly, Metal Gear Solid V is just the name of the arc that these two games are going to cover?

I totally agree. I was as hyped as anyone for the reveal trailer yesterday and couldn't help but be underwhelmed. Disappointed that its not next gen, and the trailer paled in comparison to some of the incredible MGS trailers of the past. It just did not feel epic to me.

I also agree with chittagong about the graphics.

for a next gen title its not impressive. for a ps3 titel it is very impressive....

I do hope that for PS4 we get a lot better graphics than this.

I think the first half was great. When it moved to TPP video to establish the "reveal" it lost a lot of steam for me but that's just because I've watched that footage many times.

If he is wearing cowboy boots, I'd say its 99.9999% supposed to be Ocelot.

Unless its a deliberate Kojima ruse.

Ever since MGS2 it's common for Kojima fans to think they're constantly being tricked and try to see through non existant ruses or over think simple ones, teamcg being the most recent embarrassing example.

People are so determined for Kojima to not fool them again that they go out of their way to make fools of themselves :p

But somehow I have the feeling that we do not play as the real Big Boss...
The guy with the missing arm, with Big Boss' face, has no scar shaped as a snake on his chest.
Kojima, wouldn't ignore this important detail, as the scar is also present in Peace Walker.

The scar is fake. It's explained in the game.

Ocelot looks old for someone that's barely going to be 40, but he doesn't look older than big boss. He's graying and his moustache doesn't help either is all.

Maybe he has cancer.

On a more serious note. More likely, I wouldn't be surprise if it isn't revolver ocelot and Kojima being himself and having fun with MGS fans by making a doppelganger. Remember this is the guy that only released footage of the tanker section of MGS2 prior to the games release, and a video that had a 'young' Solid Snake walking around Shadow Moses for the MGS4 campaign.

If I go by the theory Ishmael is a BB manifestation and Voga Flame is from the mind of PM, seems Mantis is trying to deter BB from using the elevator as he(Ishmael) wanted. Wonder if there was a trap waiting for BB or if Mantis was pushing him to learn to walk properly.

So regarding the discussion about how Ishmael exists only in BB's mind:

How about he's a manifestation of young Psycho Mantis to guide BB out of the hospital? The attack is real and PM&Ocelot work together to get him out.

In the car crash scene you can't see who's on the driver's side (though BB has the hand on the wheel), but I would guess it's Ishmael. Directly after the crash, only BB crawls out of the car and immediately meets Psycho Mantis (who doesn't need to project Ishmael into BB's mind anymore).

It's hard to guess if the helicopter is with PM or not. He waves at it, but it seems directly after that the helicopter is swallowed by the fire whale. Which I think is also actually happening, the fire from the burning hospital gets morphed into that shape to destroy the helicopter. If PM is friendly at that point, it's to pick them up. Failing that, Ocelot jumps in to give BB a lift.

That would mean that fire-guy (who shows powers like The Fury) is not PM. PM has a history of burning down his whole village, but he usually isn't using fire as his main power. Fire-guy is only seen as that flaming figure, transforming into explosions, a whale and a rider. However, if he's with the enemy squad, it's strange that he doesn't finish BB off after the elevator explosion (while later you can see a chase in which you have to shoot him).

Sounds like a pretty legitimate possibility. I like it.

Well wasn't Mantis' job before he went nuts to rehabilitate soldiers from stress or shock through pshycic powers? or did I dream all that?

Anyway that's exactly what I think too, none of this sits right. Also notice everyone's faces are covered, either because in Snake's mind he can't associate their faces anymore due to a 9 year coma OR Psycho Mantis doesn't know what they look like fully so he makes them be all covered up or in Demon form. The Boss' horse is also in Demon form and the kid is on it with demon Volgin.
Seems like some sort of scare tactic to me, BB is about to escape the hospital but a team rush in to stop him and use Psycho Mantis' power to scare him into not escaping

Sounds like a pretty legitimate possibility. I like it.

Then why is Mantis on a flame horse trying to kill him and give chase?
Dont forget to watch the TPP first trailer where it showed a soldier rolling Snake over and kiddy Mantis levitated behind him.
Didn't you just say that the elevator scene was to deter him from using it? Like Psycho Mantis knew it was going to fail and kill them or something.

Well Mantis seems to be controlling fire a lot in the game, he commands a giant space flame whale to swallow a chopper and summons fire Volgin and Demon Boss horse (if that's all to be believed) so an explosion in the elevator only seems likely to be him causing it. Afterall we don't know WHY the place is coming down, either Mantis is doing it or something else

It can't be, the elevator scene then means Mantis is contradicting himself.

Well in that case the fire guy wouldn't be Mantis. But either way, the elevator scene + the horse chase scene contradict each other IMO (and based of what was shown so far). Regardless if it's Mantis or some other guy with fire powers.
Though the scare tactic theory makes it more plausible I guess (although why would that still work after BB actually met PM?).

edit: yeah, two enemy teams that compete to get BB make more sense actually.

Looks like Konami has contradicted Kojima, then.

Konami is affirming that they are two separate games.

Yep other people have been saying that alright, there's bad translation somewhere but I want to know which one. I hope it's all the one game, I don't want it split up, just give me one huge good experience.
I think it IS one game as Kojima said GZ was a tutorial to get the gameplay elements and mechanics across to the player and then you go into a Coma and it's 9 years later for the main TPP plot. Kinda like the Tanker and Big Shell in MGS2 or the start to MGS3 in a way

http://www.siliconera.com/2013/03/2...r-solid-ground-zeroes-are-two-separate-games/

"Director of Public Relations, Jay Boor, informed us that they are in fact two separate games."
"Update 2: We got in touch with Boor again, this time asking if the two games will be part of the same package or on the same disc. He replied: “Can’t confirm at this time”."

Its still pretty all over the place. Kojima implies that GZ and TPP make up MGS5. Konami says theyre two separate games. Jay Boor wont say if theyre part of the same package or separate.

I found something at the end of the presentation (about 1:11:10) where that guy from Kojima Productions L.A. starts talking:
"Without touching people's emotion we can not survive, we can not keep surprising people in the next generation."

KP L.A. is handling the most part of mgo development so that could confirm MGO3 for next gen.
