Metal Gear Solid V E3 2015 Trailer

Exactly.

It feels like such a side-project in the franchise that it really could've been given a totally new title. It has so little to do with the other games in the franchise.
If it helps, it's possible to enjoy post-SOL MGS games more if you imagine that the other games don't exist and that the characters, while similiar in appearance, are not the same characters as in previous games. For example, the horrible mischaracterization of every single returning character in MGS4 (especially meryl, ocelot, zero, snake... and everyone) is more tolerable and even enjoyable if you cleanse yourself of all expectations. Kojima tells the stories he wants to tell, and he uses existing characters and the MGS franchise due to neccecity (sequel milking is the rule in the game industry when it should be the exception) and he pays zero respect to established characterization.

You know how Christopher Nolan likes to use the same couple of actors in all of his movies? Imagine the characters in each MGS are like those actors---familiar faces in a totally different story.

Hopefully FROM has helped prove that gamers are now able to recognize studios/developers and follow their work across different intellectual properties, and maybe soon we'll get away from sequel milking. Someday...

edit: who am I kidding? VG Sequel Milking has gotten so bad that it's poisoned the film industry. There's no hope, no relief. ART IS DEAD.

They aren't prisoners of war, they are enemy combatants.

It's not rising seas, it's nuisance flooding.

It's not the Patriots, it's the La-Le-Lu-Le-Lo

Bingo.

I'm starting to think those boobs aren't boobs, and are most likely what ever that cancer growth seen right before it.

Huh, I'll have to watch it again. Definitely looked like some Beauty and the Beast Corps photoshoot mode level of jiggling boobs tho

Okay so the concept behind trailer #1 is called Linguistic Determinism; it's the idea, developed by Sapir and Whorf, that complex thought can only come about through language. A subsidiary of this, Linguistic Relativism, is the concept of the language one speaks as a native tongue influencing the thoughts of the person speaking it; for example, it was found that certain Native American tribes didn't have words for linear time measurement, and thus it was supposed that they would therefore be unable to conceptualise it.

The extent to which these theories are true is debatable, but it makes for interesting ideas. Can a person be controlled via language? What if the input stimulus a person receives whilst growing up is deficient, lacking words for such abstracts as freedom or creativity? What if an entire society lacks said input? Hypothetically it'd result in a tighter form of control than fear, or force, or money, or anything else could do -- because those being controlled would have no means of rebelling due to the content of their thoughts being orchestrated, if you will, by those who provide the input stimulus.

I seldom see this concept explored in popular media before, so I was incredibly surprised when I saw it so heavily featured in the trailer. Wonder how it will fight into the overall MGS mythos.

What if the social theme (gene, meme, scene, etc) is Lexeme this time around?

He was blonde originally and dyed his hair after the briefing in MGS 1.

If the
twin snakes
are blonde in this game it's a complete retcon. There's nothing to even suggest snake dyes his hair in mgs1 other than the briefing, which is monochrome could look blonde from the interrogation lights. He asks for scissors to cut his hair but he never asks for any hair dye.

Also, liquid snake originally had brown hair but it was supposedly died blonde from his time spent in the hot sun. Makes no sense considering hair grows out. ....but that was the official story regarding his blonde hair. so yeah, This has to be a retcon. A small one but a retcon nonetheless.

What I'm wondering is...was that
psycho mantis
in the trailer???? has this already been confirmed? I think I need to go on a media blackout soon, too many spoilers for my taste.

Seems to be.

Fits in with the rise of The Patriots and their control of society, too, although that's just me hoping they'll tie that in somehow with zero evidence to support my theory.

Oh yeah, I didnt care at all about Code Talker before but now I'm really excited to hear what he has to say, since Lingua Franca is what ultimately destroyed the Original American cultures. Kojima is really getting his groove back.

Where are the people that said Solid wouldn't appear in the game?

WHERE ARE YOU? WHERE???!!!!
They live on... in this thread!
Read this in the "I live on through this arm" tone of voice

Real talk: that isn't Solid in the trailer, but I bet Solid will still be in the game.

On the contrary, this is the game that shows Big Boss's downfall and how he went from hero in MGS 3 to bad guy in MG. In short, its the game that ties the series together.

The implied fallout from MGS3 was more than enough to explain that.

This game is totally unnecessary.

But it's totally welcome. A story doesn't have to be necessary. There's a huge length of time BB was doing stuff in between MGS3/PW and MG. Why not tell that part of the story?

I'm... pretty sure that's what he's doing?

Isn't that what this game is though???

To a degree it's not necessary, but I think saying "totally unnecessary" is a bit harsh.

Peace Walker was totally unnecessary, you could easily stitch Peace Walker into this game with the same effect of watching Big Boss completely fall from grace.

This IS the story of MGS3/PW to MG, this is the final step in the story. MGS3 ended with Big Boss completely lost and jaded, Peace Walker/TPP is the step to when he takes action and tries to make good on what he envisions The Boss's world to be.

I'm sure we're going to get part of the story to where Big Boss goes back to Zero and rejoins Foxhound, that's the end game here, but we still need to see his complete fall to grace and what makes him go back to betray Zero.

Then why is it unnecessary? I think its a story that needs to be told - it's important for the MGS lore.

At first I was like it's Solid and Liquid! Now I'm not sure anymore. Like someone mentioned both are wearing the same cloths and have a scar on their left eyebrow. I still think Solid will be in this game, but I need to know what the fuck is going on at the end of that trailer.

I need this game now!!!

I still hope my personal favorite Solidus will make it into this game. He was in only one game!!!

Liquid/Solid are only 2-3 years older than Solidus and the latter had rapid aging (although that might only come into effect once he was an adult).

In 1984 (the earliest year of TPP apparently) Liquid/Solid are 12-14 years old (depending on the source material).

What if we're playing as the Big Boss that gets killed by Solid. Not the big boss that makes it to MGS4....
like what if they're two separate men?? Am I dumb for thinking this?

What are the theories regarding the end of the trailer? I'm not buying that we have seen Solid Snake and Liquid at the end. I know that Solid has blue eyes while Liquid has green eyes, can someone show us in pics the color of eyes in the last scene?

I agree... thing is I think it's not as straightforward as it seems.. hell it doesn't even seem straightforward.
And lol at people calling it the missing link.
