Metal Gear Solid V E3 2015 Trailer

How awesome is that?

This is awesome, Kojima must be feeling pretty good.

This trailer was so good that it actually made me tear up a bit.

I haven't even played Peace Walker and the themes in this trailer are utterly fascinating to me. Really excited to see if the whole game can pull it together.

Really, though, from an editing perspective, this is pretty seminal work.

Did some digging(meaning i looked at the wikipedia article) and the song used in the trailer, Elegia, was dedicated to the lead singer of a band called, get this, The Joy Division. His name was Ian Curtis.

Joy Division became New Order after Ian Curtis' death. What's your point?

I felt the same.

With everything going on with Isis turning Raqqa into their insane caliphate-state where they make their own laws. mercenaries, child killings.

I know it's not related or that you can't compare, but stll. It's so sad to see Big Boss, one of the best characters in gaming turning into the monster he sought to fight. I love it all. The crazy symbolism with the horn. demonetization...

Kojima is a huge fan of Joy Division. New Order was formed by Stephen Hook, co-founder of the band and Bernard Sumner, after Ian killed himself.

Well, at least the change in voice characters may make sense. Snake/Big Boss is changing or has changed. Changed his views, changed the way he speaks to hide his true intentions or to become something different.

How do we know it was Solid Snake?

Personally, I didn't quite like the trailer. I felt the narration was wrong, and the visuals weren't quite well edited. Showing a character talking while someone else is narrating was weird. Also I could never figure when it was the same person talking or not.

Also, it looks like they made it that Kaz gets taken over no? His eyes look white-ish like the zombies at some point. Seems to me there's a lot of this going on. And at the end they show Liquid close his eyes, and the other kid open them. It looks again like it's related to people being possessed. And with characters able to materialize flesh and bones, my guess is the other kid is just a doppelganger.

I'm so lost, but can appreciate how godlike that was.

few people push the video game industry into something i can respect. despite the whackiness of kojima, it was truly well done.

He composed 50+% of the music for Snake Eater that is usually attributed to HGW (Graphics Horse noticed this)

Zimmer also does this often. He'll compose and main theme while one of his assistants will usually compose the majority of the score (the 'boring' stuff in-between the major pieces).

So Justin Burnett is just getting the credit he deserves from composing most of the music that is said to have come from HGW alone.

Man, imagine how happy this Justin is right now, getting credits in one of the year's biggest games. Must be awesome.

Okay so the concept behind trailer #1 is called Linguistic Determinism; it's the idea, developed by Sapir and Whorf, that complex thought can only come about through language. A subsidiary of this, Linguistic Relativism, is the concept of the language one speaks as a native tongue influencing the thoughts of the person speaking it; for example, it was found that certain Native American tribes didn't have words for linear time measurement, and thus it was supposed that they would therefore be unable to conceptualise it.

The extent to which these theories are true is debatable, but it makes for interesting ideas. Can a person be controlled via language? What if the input stimulus a person receives whilst growing up is deficient, lacking words for such abstracts as freedom or creativity? What if an entire society lacks said input? Hypothetically it'd result in a tighter form of control than fear, or force, or money, or anything else could do -- because those being controlled would have no means of rebelling due to the content of their thoughts being orchestrated, if you will, by those who provide the input stimulus.

I seldom see this concept explored in popular media before, so I was incredibly surprised when I saw it so heavily featured in the trailer. Wonder how it will fight into the overall MGS mythos.

What if the social theme (gene, meme, scene, etc) is Lexeme this time around?

HOLY SHIT! Remember that whole Release Date: 1984? Now, it all makes sense. The novel "1984" by George Orwell covers this concept.

Is the trailer music an original track? Its really nice.

Here's the thing, I legit do not understand why people ask questions that have answers which are literally provided to them. The name of the song, along with who composed and produced it, the record label, etc. ALL of that is given right at the end of the trailer in clear white text. How do people miss this?

is Boss under hypnosis or some shit? That cut where Metal Gear is behind him and he turns around and that Skull guy is standing behind him. Just prior to that, the camera sweeps and there's no one behind him at that point.

Honestly after watching both trailers I'm most looking forward to seeing the relationship with Quiet play out. Seems like there's a level of respect Snake's only shared with the Boss or maybe Eva.

I think that's closer to the end of the game. Speculation, but I think Big Boss kills Skull Face halfway through the game in his pursuit of Cipher, but continues to hallucinate Skull Face through the rest of his journey.

Kaz looked possessed, Big Boss looks like he is hallucinating (remember the whale?), Outer Heaven soldiers sometimes get possessed, Liquid closes his eyes and another copy of himself opens his, soldiers acting like their are puppets, zombies that are essentially puppet soldiers, and Skull Face always looked pretty much like a zombie himself. Viper could control soldiers like that with his voice.

Also, the dead person with a headphone in her throat, that looks like a connection to Chico and his chest-plug.

If that was really Paz, then how come she didn't age? Can't really be her, most likely a clone. She looks the same age more or less as Eli.

I think I liked the song more than the trailer Lol. The narration/dialog was super cheesy.

no doubt but the song and the editing of the trailer was on point. kojima da gawd. please don't shit the bed like 4. go out on this series with a bang.

it's great to see visionary george miller watching the trailer on the ipad. would love to hear his thoughts on it, good or bad.
