Metal Gear Solid V E3 2015 Trailer

Great trailer. This game has been a long time coming, but it looks like it will be well worth the wait.

I'll have a HQ version of the trailer up in 2 to 3 hours.
I LOVE YOU.

Awwwww jeah.

Kojima is a legend when it comes to editing and song picks. Glad to hear these will all be in.

On topic, that trailer was crazy as all heck but damn if I don't need the game more.
MGS is one series in which I'll always be able to accept any discord between story and gameplay. It all seems to come together in the end.

Guys, I'm telling you: 30 seconds in is Skullface. If you played Ground Zeroes, you'll see that Horan plays Skullface with a weird fluctuating tone. Sometimes his voice goes really deep, sometimes it's a little high. I'm guessing it was a deliberate move by Kojima to show that Skullface has changed his own language so many times he can't keep a consistent voice anymore.

Even without that, from the context alone we know it's Skullface. You guys are hearing phantoms where there are none.

Never played a MGS game in my life. But from the eyes of an outsider that trailer looks really corny, really awkward pacing and some of the concepts discussed in it sound like hogwash.

damn I was mocking #teamHayter earlier, and said people were hearing things and it was #teamCG all over again, but watching the trailer again now i can definitely hear it too.

The way he stretches that "too" and the way that final vowel is pushed down his throat towards the end really does sound an awful lot like Hayter.

There is no David Hayter in the trailer.

"I was born in a small village. I was still a child when we were raided by soldiers - foreign soldiers. Torn from my elders I was made to speak their language. With each new post my masters changed along with the words they made me speak. With each change - I changed too. My thoughts, personality, How I saw right and wrong... Words Can Kill." - Skullface

"Time and again the country was ruled by a foreign tongue. When he was a young boy he lost his native language. The bedrock for any developing child. His country, His family, His face - His identity. Everything was stolen from him." - Ocelot

"Since ancient times every civilizations ruler has had the same idea. When people unite under one will - they become stronger than the sums of their parts. And what do rulers use to bring people together? Language." - CodeTalker

"This world will become one - I have found the way. Race, Tribal affiliations, National borders. Even our faces will be irrelevant. The world that The Boss envisioned will finally become a reality. And it will make mankind whole again..." - Zero

"America is a country of ;liberty. A meeting of immigrants. Instead of simply assimilating its citizens live alongside others. So the major sought a system that used information: Words - To control the subconscious." - Skullface

"In his eyes the greatest symbiotic parasite the worlds ever known isn't microbial - it's linguistic. Words are what keep civilization, our world - alive. Free the world, Not by taking mens lives. But by taking their tongues." - Ocelot

"With this i'll rid the world of infestation. Sans Lingua Franca - The world will be torn asunder, And then it shall be free." - Skullface

"The chain of retaliation is what will truly bind this world together as one" - Skullface

"*Les Enfants Terrible* Zero called it" - Big Boss

There is no Hayter. Same guy talking all along. Listen to the Japanese version, no change in VA there at all.

If somehow this was true the Japanese version is completely irrelevant.
English is lead, also Kojima could always have Skullface's Japanese actor easily throw in that line just to cover it(especially if Kojima believed the Japanese voice was easier to tell apart).

On the first two points, a certain level of tolerance for poorly translated japanese material needs to be built up to enjoy these games. Imagine what it would be like if you weren't American, watching a poorly translated dub of an autuer-driven film (lets say, Clockwork Orange) and you can start to get a picture. Any japanese-speaking fans can tell you that Kojima's writing flows a lot better in the original japanese. (there's a good example of this in Tim Roger's review of MGS4)

On the third point, which concepts sound like hogwash? Information Control? Brainwashing? Sapir-Whorfian Linguistics? Be specific, provide examples, back up your criticism.

Bit of a weak trailer in my opinion. Weakest of the Kojima cuts. I'm also very much at the stage where I feel I've seen maybe too much and just want to play already. I'm good to go.

Well, to be honest the whole language as control, which the novel 1984 was based off of has been kinda discredited.

But that doesn't mean it's themes can't be explored, which is what's going on in this trailer and most likely a major part of the game. Kojima is greatly inpsired by works like 1984 and is bringing it to the forefront of this game (See "Big Boss Is Watching You" poster).

Just think about it though, language does hold great power over people and a populace. The US government was able to get away with holding prisoners of war without following the Geneva Convention because they called them "Unlawful Enemy Combatants". These people being held for years on end, some for over a decade have never had a trial and have been tortured completely legally because some suits found a loophole in wording and sold it to the country during a time of great panic and fear.

Eh, I thought it was cut way better than last year's one, which just felt like Kojima slapped on his current favourite song over a series of clips.
