Some people have said no, you get a decision after the fight whether to take her or leave her, regardless of the means.

Do what i did and outsnipe her with the tranq pistol :3 :3

There is an easy way to get S:

Spot her and then request supply drops on her head. After the first one hits, chase her so she won't regen in the water. 2 drops should kill her.

How do I hold people up? Is it L2 while tapping R2? (At work ATM)

Also, how do I go into the open world without selecting a mission?
Go into first person aim (tap R1 to see the to FPS view while readying/aiming your weapon with L2) behind someone not in combat with you to hold them up.

Transposing XB controls to PS so I hope that works.

You can just hold L2 and walk behind someone and they will yield. I sometimes did it on accident.

Use L1 commands to make them lie down.

I am about to embark on my greatest mission yet:

ignoring the disc while I try to get work done today.

work at home = Hard Mode

Don't get discouraged if you get caught. There are tons of distraction methods to avoid getting lit up. For instance, I set a few pieces of C4 on truck and approached the side of a base that was huge. I ended up getting caught, and after getting out of sight, I hit the button to set off the C4.

More than half of them went to go check it out, leaving me to strangle a few of them, get the shit I needed, and got out of there.

If you truly want to get creative, you can set off some explosions at an outpost nearby and lower the guard count at a base.

When using the Fulton, how easy is it for that to be seen? Is it auto alert? Does the sound matter, or do they need to be able to see it?

Unless they are super close, they won't be seen.

Once you get spotted it's very easy to just run around, break line of sight and do something else. I usually just break the line of sight and pull some distraction off with explosives so that everyone gets funneled into one area and I sneak out the other. Distractions are actually the best way to sneak about if you aren't too fussed about S rating. And Quiet is the best distraction because she can change positions very quickly and all you need is one kill (two at most) and everyone will start looking at her direction, giving you a chance to sneak behind them.

If the enemy is close, so around 20-30 meters they will go in caution mode and then come over to the area but that's about it. Caution doesn't count as alert so your rating is safe.

Any beginner tips or general tips on how to approach combat?

Am I not supposed to take out guards one by one with cqc like in other MGS games?
The sleeping dart pistol was always kind of a 'cheat' to get past certain situations in a pinch or to use when cornered, so I'm reluctant to rely on it.

Am I not supposed to study their patterns and solve it like a puzzle like in older MGS games?

Yep, you can do this, but the game is much more organic and dynamic than any Metal Gear before it. As I posted in the impressions thread-

Your visibility and sound -the two things emanating from you that alert guards- all vary based on your stance, movement speed, light, weather, camouflage, proximity to the enemy, the direction they're facing, their level of suspicion, and so on. Your abilities all need to be experimented with and put into practice, but when you do, it totally pays off.

The best things you can do before you unlock better gear are to take your time marking every available soldier from afar before infiltration, exploit crawling if you have no choice but to move in front of the enemy, and the use of cover to look around. Keep your distance from the enemy and above all be patient. Generally speaking, the slower, lower, and further you are from them, the better. Don't take out soldiers if you don't have a good way of getting rid of them without them being missed. Every single action you do aside from simple sneaking has inevitable repercussions if you take too long. Keep an escape plan in mind. Set up diversions if you need to.

Obviously the best strategy is to not approach combat at all, but there's no shame in shooting guys, be it lethal or merciful. I'd say MGS1 is the only game in the series (including MG1 and 2) where shooting regular dudes is a bad idea.

Hold on,

Spoilers for the prologue

You have to change Snake's appearance? I don't want to. How can I not do so?

hah man im surprised at so many people freakin over this. it was pretty clear what it was to me when it showed up

you guys forget about MGO :,(

Seems that, for the first couple missions at least, S Ranks are way easier than they were in Ground Zeroes. I mean, makes sense. No one wants to put that much work in when there's 10 times as many missions.

Just had the choice between the collector's edition and the day one edition in my local Media Markt. Went with the day 1 edition because of the superior steelbook with glorious Shinkawa art :p

I had the UK servers working in the morning, but it made ACC idroid really slow to do load anything. Can't play for a few days now so hopefully it'll settle down when I'm back.

Is she meant to flee from the helicopter? :o

DDog tip:

If you need to switch to him from another buddy, request he drop right in the middle of the base you are going into. He'll land in the middle and spot all the enemies in the base then run to meet you
