Played 3-4 hours yesterday and the game is great so far.

Also reading some comments about the lack of story, well it depends on what you expect from Kojima. For instance I expect political messages and discussions that other games rarely touch upon.Honestly what other game in the first few hours talks
about the Cyprus dispute, Islam extremists, the US backing them(the same guys that now run rampant
.That's what I like about Kojima and will surely miss now that he left Konami :/

Probably a silly question, but I've avoided all media/reviews etc of the game - is it necessary to play Ground Zeroes first or can I dive right in?

Many thanks in advance :)

Hahah I love that they don't penalize an actually encourage beating up your own dudes at Mother Base. It's so satisfying walking up to a dude, him saying "We need more medical plants sir!", and then slamming his face into the ground.

They sum it up kind of well especially if you listen to the cassettes, but if you can play it I'd highly recommend it. You'll have a lot more context. It would be like skipping the Tanker mission in MGS2.

I accidentally drove someone over and that threw him into the water --> Game over. lol

Really impressed how well the PS3 version runs. Sure, there are drops and all but I haven't encountered any serious issues during busy moments. The game looks unbelievably good for the PS3 at times actually. Vastly superiour to GZ in every way. The only effect that can be very ugly is some types of (facial) hair. I don't know, it looks really grainy and ailiased in a weird manner at times. Draw distance can look off too when you focus on it (mountains in the distance), however everything gameplay related doesn't suddenly pop up or anything. it all holds up really well. I have yet to try out the companion app, seems like it might be handy.

This to me is stealth heaven. Fluid, open, great and varying level lay-out and well realised a.i. patterns. Tapes are great as well. Now that you can sit in a corner and listen to them when you want to know something, it actually feels a bit like codec again. Not that static menu of PW anymore or the barebones codec content of 4. Some direct calls with Ocelot made me chuckle as well, minor detail:
(a reference to Naked Snake's legendary appetite when asking intel on the Sheeps, for example)

I will see how this one fares on the long run, as I am not really far into the game. I am a massive MGS fan ever since I bought 2 back in 2003 and I love the cutscenes and all. This is absolutely different, but I expect I will love it. Not a big fan of PW, alltough I still enjoyed that one very much. Bite sized missions and the heavy relies on menu's for progression made it feel a bit disjointed. Now you can actually walk on MB and most things feel more incorporated into gameplay while being Snake. That is a mjor difference for me.

can you do custom soundtracks in this? I tried putting a cd in my ps4 to rip it like on ps3 and it just said unsupported disc.

all i can find on the internet is outrage from 2013 before sony announced cd and mp3 support would be added in an update..

is there something i need to do to get this working?! or did they never actually release the update?

You can simply sneak up and then aim. The reason why they are turning back to catch you is because your movements are too loud or you are approaching from the side (the guards never just look in one direction as they also look a bit to the left and right from time to time).

It was hard for me too but once I unlocked the sneaking suit I was able to get close without any issues. There is no real reason to hold up though, you can't shoot radios or get dog tags or such.

Holding people up is the best thing you can do.

Hold a guy up > tell him to get down > he stays there permanently until an alarm goes off.

If you're truly dedicated to stealth and can get about without being spotted, you can have a whole base of guards face down on the ground, quivering, thinking your pointing your rifle at them the whole time. You can literally disarm an entire base with hold ups. Then you can run about willy-nilly to your heart's content.

Well... to me the intro leaves with a lot of questions: why has the fireguy the same shrapnel wounds as BB. Is Ishmael == BB? (he says "you are talking to yourself") What about the psycho girl? The references to language again (first quote in the Intro). The doctor first talking a foreign language. I think it is more than just a action sequence

Minor intro spoilers again.

Yes there were questions indeed, but there was nothing that tied to broader Metal Gear lore or any 'twists' or developments. Literally everything in the intro except Snake was a new introduction with little/no meaning behind it. I guess I just expected more story. There were mysteries, but no story per se.

So.. uh.. does the prologue count towards 100%? Kinda bummed out if so, only got an A rank and I really don't feel like replaying it just for an S rank since its really long. Just finished it so I'm not sure.

I have reached Africa yesterday, and I think there is enough story in MGS V, and this is coming from a huge fan of the series (MGS 3 my favorite in term of story), I have played an important side op that does have cut scenes and important info to the story. People should listen to tapes too.

In the first mission in Afghanistan near the end, how do I
avoid being seen by the creepy ass skull dudes? Just hide under the bridge with the horse and kaz
?

Really!? Does this work with the tranq pistol too? How do I hold them up

yeah, but if you're seen just bolt like hell on the horse

Hanging on the installing game data screen. :/ bummer

Close application, eject disc, put it in again, run the app again.
Should work.

If all else fails, then upload your savegame to the cloud, delete the game, re-install.
That helped me in the end.

I interrogated a soldier and he spit out something about location they keep the diamonds, but I don't see anything added on the map. Does it not automatically get marked on the map?

Yes it does, as far as the guard knows it's a lethal pistol.

> Creep up behind a guard slowly (creep fast and he'll hear you)
> Aim your gun at his back the whole time, slow-walking
> When you're about 3 feet away, Snake will automatically say 'Hands up' and the guard will drop his gun and be 'held up'
> You can then use L1/Call button to interrogate him, or select 'Get down'
> Select 'Get down' and the guard will lie down on his face. You can still interrogate him. It's usually best to do this immediately after holding him up, because he'll be very visible to other guards if still standing
> Once the guard is lying on his face, he will stay there forever (thinking your aiming at him the whole time) until an alert, when he will get up and grab his gun

Edit: be aware, elite/heavy soldiers are not afraid of your gun, so you can hold them up but they will have no fear and attack you after a couple of seconds anyway

also if you hold someone up and leave them standing, when you're out of sight they will grab their gun and alert the base again

also if you're going to Fulton a lying down guard, make sure you kick him to knock him out again. If you Fulton a guard who's awake, he'll shout for help.

also I with they added a 'Stand up' option for once you've told a guard to lie down. You can't CQC them when they're lying down and sometimes you want to move them. One of the game's few minor niggles.

yeah it'll be a little tick on your map. Place a marker on it yourself.

It's usually a tick mark somewhere in that area however if you've already picked up diamonds at the location it won't be marked by a tick and just a greyed out (acquired) diamond icon.

4hrs11mins and I'm done for today.

My current position
was introduced to mother base by ocelot, Fulton some of the workers, now I'm back on the chopper ready to do some missions.

When you see it...

How do you summon your horse on the keyboard? There's no mention of it in the controls and the instructions on-screen told me to press the right analogue stick? Currently resorting to doing a lot of running...

In case anyone is wondering:

I got both the JP Coll. Ed. and the JP Premium Ed. today. Based on the backside of the packages the CE has english audio and 7 or so different subtitles whereas the JP PE has japanese audio only and japanese AND english subtitles.

The JP PE is HUGE bbtw., here is a comparison shot...

It's very limited for lefthanded players like myself. I need to use IJKL to move around. Fuck WASD.

Seriously could someone tell me what I have to do at the end of mission 16:

The skulls just popped out of the truck and I'm surrounded by about 10 puppet soldiers. Do I have to kill them all to progress? I don't want to risk wasting another 30 mins on this shit.

Throw around a few decoys and fulton the truck!! Be sure to wear animal camo!!

I didnt get spotted once and fulton both tabks as well.

Do i get all the day 1 stuff if i buy the digital version on PS4 right now? or am i forced to get the physical because i didn't pre-order the digital?

wow! I thought the Standard CE was big!

That's brilliant. Thanks!

Are elite guards marked? Like do they stand out, so I'd know?

Hm... although I already have the game I could get the CE for 90€ - If I keep it wrapped, do you think it will be a good value in a few years?
