Metal Gear Solid V has been updated to version 1.21 while the Definitive Edition has been updated to 1.10. Here are the patch notes for this update

Konami has updated all Metal Gear Solid games today on February 9 the current generation consoles. This includes Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and Metal Gear Solid 5: Definitive Edition.

While the patch notes don’t explain much, we do know that they have changed the notification of the agreement process. However, if you are hoping to get an update on the game adding new content, or for the bug fixes that are still left intact, then be disappointed as there are no additional changes.

Wait does the game have a next gen update or is it just itsfuckingnothing.gif?

Been wanting to play MGS5 for a long, long time and a next gen update would definitely push me to buy.

There's no real reason to play it on the new systems, unless you want lightning fast load times. Unless the game is going to receive a HUGE graphical upgrade, there's not much more to get out of the game, performance wise.

Somewhat off topic but can someone explain to me (who’s about 4 hours in) how the opening segment in the hospital is one of the sickest openers ever, then you’re just doing boring missions in the dessert Afghanistan for hours straight

The game wasn't finished but pushed out the door anyway. Konami was done with Kojima, and vice versa.

You'll notice way more bizarre narrative structures, missing elements, lazy filler missions in the rest of the game. It's a proper Frankenstein of a game miraculously held together by decent to good moment to moment gameplay.

I am not sure how but my playtime with MGS V: The Phantom Pain alone is like 115-120 hours and I remember enjoying it a great deal. I wonder what my playtime with GoT will be once I finish it as I am spending what feels like a very similar time with it... cannot believe I was putting that much more gaming hours into games in general back then...

Ground Zeroes is basically the prologue to The Phantom Pain. It was released as a standalone game before Phantom Pain came out.

The Definitive Experience just bundles Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain.

I believe the ps4 pro got a patch to take advantage. But the 1x never got a patch.
i have a sneaky feeling the pro version goes above 1080p.
The game is already 60fps target so should be 60fps on ps5/ xsxs

MGSV's open world it's an acquired taste. Give it time and you'll end up loving it and appreciating the brilliant game design behind it.

There was a patch a while back that bumped the Pro up to 1440p, but no other enhancements were noted

its fucking archaic compared to something like Hitman.

It was trash then and it’s only worse now.

Well, you are wrong because what MGSV does with it's open world is entirely different than what Hitman tries to achieve with it's open levels.

A more accurate comparison to MGSV's open world would be a game like Monster Hunter: World.

I think Ground Zeroes was the better game. It was open plan but it was a more condensed experience, and as a result felt more like MGS. I loved TPP, warts and all, but there was only one mission that made me think "Okay, this is where the real MGS5 begins" because everything else was open plan bases. If TPP was or had a bigger GZ infil/exfil base instead of the open and wide sparse ones we got, it would have been a stronger game.

I still plan to relay it, but with mods that make it more like classic MGS. More Subsistence missions, etc.

God I wish they they'd gone this way too, hell I wouldn't even be mad if they released more episodic content in the GZ format

I've played through all four main Metal Gear games over the last year or so, and had zero interest in playing V again. Then I saw this thread, and the interest came flooding back... but it's not even a next-gen patch. I'm feeling that phantom pain all over again.

There is a couple of cutscenes that were released, this video shows them:


Better than nothing I guess. But the curious thing is this Lord of the Flies mission doesn't feel conclusive. It just concludes Eli's storyline. It's like there was supposed to be 2-3 other chapters. It's such a shame some scenes from the trailer never made it to the final game, and that
the circumstances of Big Boss' fall were replaced by that Venom Snake twist.

That said, playing Ground Zeroes followed by TPP prologue and first mission is one hell of a ride. Too bad the story gradually evaporates afterwards. Great gameplay though.

MGSV concludes in its first chapter, with chapter 2 acting more as an epilogue that sets up the following games in the MGS chronology, explores the "phantom pain" theme that gives name to the game and serves as a payoff to certain character's storylines.

That's the way it was always meant to be, minus the absence of Mission 51 and the unused Chico storyline (which I assume could have filled the holes of those repeated missions).
