Update: Looks like the final CCU peak for the launch weekend is ~86k. Very strong debut for Metaphor on Steam considering it's a new JRPG IP!

I'm not sure that's saying a lot.

Weren't the other major steam releases released well after the original game launched?
Depends on if you consider Persona 3 Reload or SMT5: Vengeance a "original games" I guess, but you're mostly correct.

These numbers aren't mind blowing, considering the expectation for this title is likely much higher than for P3R.

I specifically used the word original to be clear here.

Yeah but things like remakes are sort of debatable, like yes it's a derivative work but it's positioned like a new one in the market. So that's why I say it depends on how you qualify original.

I mean a remake still isn't the original.

We're not even getting into ship of theseus discussion.

I'm taking this game to it's limit, when is Black Myth: Wukong gonna release on Xbox? It's been a while since it's first release.

They have made so much money on that game do they even care about an Xbox port that won't make a difference?

Good for them. I am one of those too, but I really hope that they do big changes in the graphics department in their future game because the textures and the jaggies are not acceptable

We pay like 2k for a new gpu.

I am a grown man. I get to decide what price I am willing to pay for the things that I want. I don't care if other people are willing to pay more than me. You decide what you are willing to spend for the things that you want.

I just checked on Humble Bundle and saw I can get it for $55.99. I just bought it, and I'll give it a try next week. Thanks for reminding me to check for sales!

My point here is that, as a product, a full remake is expected to sell like a new game, and thus it's a relevant point of comparison for sales. The originality argument is kind of besides the point in that instance.

Anyway, Atlus said that Metaphor is their first game to cross the million mark in one day so that's a pretty promising data point.

Who said this? Ever?

Again, I think this is the first major original game they released on multiple platforms on Day 1...

That means a lot because games like P3R... not everyone who bought P3, said I'm going ahead and buying this again. Even P5R was just a re-release of P5, which had released on an unpopular PS3 and the PS4 without userbase.

Tell me what you think their 2nd fastest selling game ever was.

P3R is not like P5R, it's a full remake of a much older game, not a simple expansion or a remaster or port. So it doesn't have the redundancy issue, it's positioned more like a new game, which is also true of titles like Silent Hill 2 or the Resident Evil 2 remake.

Not everyone wants to buy a remake.

That's fine obviously

My reaction was more aimed at the randomness of your post. That's all.

Not everyone wants to buy a remake.
Not everyone wants to buy any game. That's not the point. The point is it was a product expected to sell 7 figure units with a simultaneous worldwide multiplatform release, which makes it a more reasonable point of comparison than the other titles. I don't know why you are so dug in about this.

Persona 3 Reload isn't competing with or losing sales to the PS2 version of the game.

Bough Silent Hill 2, Sparkign Zero, FFXVI, Ragnarok and Metaphor this month. Wont have time to play this until December, but it's clear a good ass game

I'm so happy for Atlus, well done, well deserved. Most likely there will be another small increase tomorrow, from Monday it will go down.
