Metroid Pinball Hype Thread

Ok, so Metroid Pinball comes out on monday( I think..heh). It's also gonna be the first rumble pack DS game. So far GI gave it an 8/10 and basically say it's great. I don't know about you, but I'm a big fan of pinball and I'm definately looking forward to this. I just watched the video's over at IGN and now I'm completely sold. I totally love the whole Metroid sci-fi atmosphere, the music, table layout etc.. I do admit, I was a little turned off of the whole metroid pinball concept at first, but it really seems to work great! The only downside I'm seeing now, is I want it to be turned into a REAL pinball table. =_(


So...who's picking this bad boy up? Also, do any of you know how many tables are in the game? Thanks...

I'll check if it's already available at the Nintendo World store today. If not, Monday surely. Most other stores probably won't get it until Tuesday or Wednesday, however. Nintendo SHIPS games on Mondays, not launches them then.

There is a minimum of 6 tables (I use minimum because I'm not sure if there are any extra ones). It's basically each world in Metroid Prime 1 is a table. There is also a mission mode where you complete tasks. I'll buy this if it's cheap.
 
Only two of the boards are really full featured, the others are full sized but simpler and based around defeating a boss enemy. Still, it's so much fun and very addictive. I wish it had online ranking or at least default scores that were difficult to beat.

Metroid Prime Pinball and DDR Mario Mix (Cube) both arrive at the NW Store on Monday, the 24th.
 
Played the demo at Best Buy. Based on that, it's no where near as good as Devil's Crush, but I guess I didn't expect it to be. Probably still pick it up though, since I like video pinball.

Metroid Prime Pinball may not hold players over waiting for a true Metroid DS adventure (like, for example, the delayed-until-next-year Metroid Prime Hunters), but even without the traditional Metroid design Fuse Games has proven that the theme works pretty darn well for pinball. The team may have failed with Mario on the GBA, but it definitely succeeded with Samus on the Nintendo DS. Fuse Games' design looks, sounds, and plays great, and encompasses that pick-up-and-play element that works great in the handheld environment.

Definitely feels right at home in the Metroid Prime universe, but in pinball form. Comes packaged with an effective but noisy rumble pak for free.
8.5 Graphics
Gorgeous pre-rendered visuals follow the Metroid style. Well animated enemy characters and really solid ball physics.
9.0 Sound
Awesome renditions of the Metroid theme and haunting audio effects accompany the actions. Crank it up.
8.0 Gameplay
Pinball table designs are very cool with standard and "virtual" pinball elements. It's a little easy out of the box, though, and the goal is easily obtained.
7.0 Lasting Appeal
Even though the "adventure" portion ends somewhat quickly, there's a cool single cartridge wireless multiplayer mode as well as high score challenges to compete in.
8.0 OVERALL

I find it a little odd that the visuals seem to be entirely prerendered - I think the bosses, at least, would have looked better in real-time, judging from some of the videos on Gamespot.

I was glued to this at the store for a good 20 minutes. I love pinball games and this one feels great, a new addiction for me this month :( I fought the rock boss on the snow planet, which was pretty cool, and I got to try the shooting and wall jumping bonuses which are nice additions. No rumble in the demo unit. Aside from the pinball goodness, the real standout was the music.It was standard Metroid fair, but sounded great and good pinball music is very welcome :)

I was planning on picking up Trauma Center or Pheonix Right this weekend, but they've been pushed back indefinitely, as I tend to get many weeks of game time out of score chasers like pinball
 
I played it on a DS kiosk for about 15 minutes and it wasn't really that great of a pinball game. What made it neat was when it would cut to platforming bits. Like, you lock a ball into a certain spot on the board, and it cuts to some 2D metroid action for a second, where you have to complete this sequence to get that bonus. Kind of neat. Without that, though? Eh.

Hmm.. from the video I watched it seemed pretty nice to me. =_(
 
It is a good pinball game. There are only two tables, but they're well done, and there's a lot to do on them. I have a feeling the people that are complaining don't really like playing pinball video games in the first place...

I'm gonna side with you because I love pinball, I love Metroid, and damn it, I want this game to kick ass! :D

This is the truth, it is a good pinball game indeed. But only two boards? I thought there are six or seven?

On the demo alone I played Pirate ship and Tallon overworld. I also played Phenandra drifts, but it was a boss board, are you not counting those?

Phazon Mines was selectable but I didn't try it, and I'm certain magmoor makes an appearance.
 
In case you guys missed it, my review has been up for a few days now.

It should answer any and all questions you have about the game, including the number of tables.

There are six tables in single player total, however, four of them are simply arenas for boss fights and little more. The other two are full-blown pinball tables, however. There is also an extra table for multiplayer and multiplayer only (Magmoor Caverns, with, curiously, the Super Metroid Brinstar Music instead).

Perhaps, but I love video pinball, and from what I played it's nothing revolutionary. Solid, but not as good as I hoped. It can't hold a candle to the likes of Devil's Crush, for example. The reviews of 8.0 or so sound about right.

Haha, I wonder how that got messed up.

Great review othersteve, it is a shame about the lack of full fledged tables. I'll probably still pick the game up as I haevn't played a good pinball game in a while. It's moved off of my "run out and get this game" list to the "pick it up when I have the time" list.

I'm gald to hear the pinball physics are great and the table designs are quality though. I also like that the Metroid tie in stuff turned out to work for the better, a lot of great tables are baseed off of IPs
 
Devils' Crush fans, have you played Jaki Crush? The best of the crush 3, but I also enjoy Alien Crush more than Devil's anyway.

About Metroid Pinball - I have a smidgen of hype - I will pick it up sometime, but like Pkunk Fury, I ain't inna hurry.

I have, and I actually prefer Devil's over Jaki. Like you said, it's a matter of opinion. I have a friend who swears Alien Crush is the best of the three. Either way, they're all really good pins.
