Metroid Prime 4: Beyond | Nintendo Direct

You can tell the trailer is shitty when the people who loved it don't say anything good about it.
A ridiculous post. Numerous people have said what they like about it. So, you either chose to ignore all of those points, or you just disagree and think you're speaking objectively, for some strange reason. Maybe read through the thread again.

It wasn't an exciting trailer, but it's fairly standard for Nintendo to save new mechanics for later trailers.

I expect we'll see new mechanics at the Switch 2 reveal.

Finally!

After all these years, it exists and is almost ready for what is likely a cross-gen launch.

You fools who are complaining, this is just a tease. Anyone who has ever played Prime knows almost all the footage they've shown is literally just from the short tutorial area each game in the series has.

It's obvious they want to start off small, not anger the fan base with what is likely to be some real whacky stuff they put in this game.

It's subtitle is literally Beyond. Where in the blue fuck do you think this game is going after Tutorial?

Straight up, I suspect there is gonna be a lot, and I mean a lot of interesting surprises in this game.

Fucking A! Can't believe its almost here!
so tease us with something new and not with MP1 gameplay footage.

this reminds me of Other M.

A more ridiculous reply. Mabye you've chosen to not read the same 40 posts I did.

Considering there are over 250 posts, you should try revisiting. Sounds like you just skimmed to the ones that fit your own opinion, since you're clearly trying really hard to convince people to dislike a trailer.

You gotta remember they've made some pretty mediocre metroid games.

Anyway I wish for the best. But that was an unexcited trailer for a game coming out next year that has been in the works for 7 years.

I get Duke Nukem Forever vibes.

That's my point. I can't claim I read and memorized all 250+ posts. But I read enough to not see anybody say something cool about the trailer. And I also noticed you didn't say anything cool about it in your replies to me.

You're just trying to change the subject into something dumb about what I am trying to do or not to do. I'm merely saying it's a bad trailer and why. And having fun arguing about that.

Objectively the trailer is underwhelming. The excitement is merely for MP4 actually coming and its release year.

And that's a good thing. But doesn't make the trailer good.

You don't have to memorize them lol. The structure of the trailer is odd, but you can't say it's objectively underwhelming. That's impossible. Plenty of people have enjoyed it for other reasons. Even if it is just because it's Metroid.

The good thing about the trailer is all the good content they didn't show.

I wonder if Ridley will return here.. I guess he kind of imploded with Phazon in Prime 3 (?).

Looks like Sylux is in charge of the pirates in this one.

I think most people that loved the trailer probably love Metroid Prime.

That's where I'm at really. For me, the trailer confirmed that after all the bullshit this game has been through since it was announced (radio silence to being canned to being repositioned under retro) that we're ultimately getting a game that is true to the Metroid Prime name.

The trailer itself was effective the Space Frigate from the original (tutorial, meant to familirize with mechanics, etc) with them panning to what would seem to be the equivalent of Tallon IV (ie. the larger planet that we probably actually spend our time on) after the title. That's really all I want at this point, give me a game akin to (the first) Metroid Prime but with some measured modern sensibilities and changes to take advantage of the tech and we're in business.

Some people may find that to not be enough changes but for me, Metroid Prime is one of the absolute best games of all time and it's not exactly a saturated sub-genre. Of all the games that need a new direction, this ain't it imo.

All I care is a new mechanics/weapons/visors/interactions etc... I saw Samus commanded ship to fly away and strike the turret in the beginning. Ship mechanics was fun in MP3 so I hope for more of that.
Also it was teaser trailer and the game is probably in polishing phase however they said "we are targeting 2025" so this MAY BE still very unfinished game.

Yeah of course most people just excited to hear MP4 2025.

I loved MP. Finished and enjoyed Dread. Glad to hear MP4 is coming. INterested to see what it is about.

Trailer didn't ease skepticism about the project. Projects that go on too long in my experience...aren't usually great games. And trailer did nothing to ease that. Nothing to say some cool stuff is coming. IT just was like well...we're going to get a MP4 game to you in 2025....hopefully.

How long has it really be in development though? Original version was Bamco and was canned. They only announced like 4 years ago that it would be rebooted with Retro. Given ramp up and all that, it seems like a pretty standard cycle.

I also think they're being cagey with the date because it will likely be cross gen, but that could be wrong.

Looks incredible for the hardware it's running on, like the Prime remaster but on steroids. I would never have thought in 2017 that we'd end up with something like this running on portable hardware. Every generation has its great swansong game and i'm glad it's going to be this for the Switch.

The only thing i'm not digging is the weird ship design where the cockpit looks like a big suit helmet. It looks weird, like you're flying around in a big Funko Pop version of Samsus or some shit. I also wanted to see MP2 and 3 re-released on the Switch in the time between the Prime remaster and this. I guess there is still time for that time happen.

it looked like she sent the ship away. But I didn't the vibe she ordered it to take out the turret.

teased switch 2 garphics at the traler end i am known for my industry perdictions
People keep saying this is Switch 1 footage, or at least this is not beyond the capabilities of the Switch (which may be true), but I honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was Switch 2 gameplay.

That's not to say it looks incredibly "next gen." It's more that I expect this as a cross gen game to push the Switch and just be cleaner, higher res, and more performant on its successor. The visuals did look very clean for Switch gameplay. Expectations are too high for what a next gen version will look like, IMO.

Plus, we don't know if it will have the same limited scope/corridor gameplay as oreviius prime games. If we're looking at a more open world adventure, this could well be the best they could do on Switch 2 while maintaining a high frame rate.

As a trailer teasing Prime 4 though, that was great. Looked like cinematics and gameplay from early in the game (a la Prime 1's exploration of the abandoned facility before heading down to the planet). Otherwise why the reaction to Sylux coming in through the wall?

So far, so great. Now I'm excited to see more.

The most important things to mention in regards to gameplay is the Hud is Blue instead of Orange and swapping between Missiles and stuff is used with the D-Pad and the Map actually has a compass telling you what direction you are facing. In addition you have a Radar in the top left to track allies, enemies and possible points of interest.

As well as your Missile Ammo total to the left. Lots of cool stuff going on that people will take for granted.

Other M? This looked like straight up Prime. Old school, they showed absolutely nothing beyond confirming, yes this is Metroid Prime. Yes there is Space Pirates, yes Metroid's, and yes Sylux is here.

I take it as a teaser trailer. Because really, that's what it is. This Direct was about games coming thru till the next fiscal year.

Prime 4 is 2025 but likely whenever Switch 2 is ready. There is always the chance it could slip to the end of the year if the launch is early Spring.

It's not like a CG trailer that most companies nowadays put out that is absolutely nothing indictive or the final product.

It's a tease, after 7 long years of waiting. A well deserved one. I'm sure the next trailer is gonna show off some more stuff, when it's closer to launch.

But likely we won't know it all until the game is out, Nintendo is pretty secretive.

First person?? Boooo

Fucking déjà vue from 2001~2002 on gaming-age forum

We've settled this debate over a bloody battlefield. Retro proved everyone it works in first person. FFS.

CG trailers I don't watch.

and yes great trailer for what it didn't show.

People saying it looks too good to be a Switch game lol These are Switch games, and IMO Xenoblade 3 is way more impressive than Prime Remaster:

Which is it though? It looks too good to be on Switch, or it's a 'shitty looking Switch game'? I'm seeing both being bandied around. I'm not sure what the latter expected though, it's the Switch, it wasn't gonna turn into a PS5 overnight and pull off graphical miracles. And for the former, it looks about in line with the Prime remaster.

Just wait for the Switch 2 version, but even then, don't expect much, it'll be a cross-gen game.

My gut is telling me this was target footage because something looked off about it, but this time I'll ignore my gut and believe that I'm viewing an area from MP4.

the first teaser counts. whatever that means. And the disappointment is the shitty trailer. That doesn't mean game is necessarily bad. Game could still be good. It just means the trailer is shitty. The good thing about the trailer was a MP game was announced for 2025.

The lack of excitement around the trailer could mean they don't want to show much because what they have to show is trojan horse VR of the Switch 2. And that's where the excitement will come from. ;)

Mario Odyssey showed off new stuff in the trailers that I skimmed.

The lack of excitement around the trailer could also mean they just don't have a great game.

We'll see. I am not not buying the game just because the trailer didn't excite.

That being said, I watched it a 3rd time on a phone and it was better. had the volume so music shown thru and the music was always great. And on a phone screen it looks sharper. Still it's off. It wasn't an exciting trailer. I mean Samus literally stopped, watched a 'cylinder' roll down a ramp for 5 seconds and then continued on No new mechanic or cool ability was shown. So it's either going to be a meh game or they are re-jiggering it for VR on Switch 2. ;)
it depends on your expectations, this short trailer is pretty much "Metroid Prime in HD" wich is just what they promised, and good enough for me, as i don't think there is another series quite like it, or very rare.

If you were expecting Metroid Prime 4 to be a groundbreaking game that revolutionizes the formula, it falls short of that, though i don't believe it needs to at least in this entry ,it should find a healthy middle ground instead, (certainly Nintendo hasn't been talking about how revolutionary this Metroid is gonna be )

But also, we haven't seen anything of Prime 4 yet, how big the scope is gonna be or what new mechanics this title introduces , 100% sure they are keeping plenty of surprises for later trailers,as for the overall quality i had some concerns with the Retro Studios designers who left after the previous games, but Nintendo is very strict when its about quality control and they know how high the expectations are from fans about a new Metroid Prime entry

Well, IDK I'm just responding to criticism here but IMO it looked pretty average at first, then I saw it on my TV and it look better detailed, yet something I can see switch running with proper development techniques, like the great lighting it has but as it's still baked/static lighting it can be done with an amazing algorithm and I'm sure Retro definitely can produce

Graphically solid, map looks varied, nice to see they are continuing from the secret ending of MP3.

Gameplay looks solid, like it's using the combat of MP3 which had the best combat of the original trilogy. There, easy and sincere.

The thing I like the most about the trailer (I agree most of it is unimpressive) is the final part with the shot of the jungle, but it's not the visuals, it's the song. This is what Metroid games are supposed to sound like. I don't know if they got Yamamoto back in action or if he's mentoring newbies that were able to replicate his signature style but this is textbook Prime music and it gives me a lot of confidence this game will deliver.

Most definitely on the post trailer music. Same kind of feeling Phendrana Drifts had. Which is good.

Looks a similar quality to Metroid Prime remastered, which is easily the best looking "realistic" game on Switch and runs at 60 fps. I'd say 99% of other games on Switch would give the impression that it can't produce graphics like this but it can in the right hands.

Yeh sorry watched it on my phone, watched it again on my tv, looks like a early ps3 game, absolute shit 😂

Doubt it, it's been in the oven four years at Retro and they'll most likely be in the final stretch relatively speaking. The game looks extremely functional and polished even though they really didn't show much yet.

Did anyone here enjoy Prime 3 at all? I always thought it was seen as a bit of a black sheep. People said it was more linear?

I have a copy but Ive never played it. Same with Other M.
