Metroid is one of the best series imo! It deserves more recognition and prestige plus better opportunities to succeed.

I personally don't enjoy the first NES game nor the GameBoy game. Also let's stay away from Other M Baby discussion.

For the main 2D series I recommend:
Metroid 1 Zero Mission (GBA)
Metroid 2 Samus Returns (3DS)
Metroid 3 Super (SNES)
Metroid 4 Fusion (GBA)
Metroid 5 Dread (NS1)

For the FPA 3D series I recommend:
Metroid Prime 1 (GC/Wii(Trilogy)/NS1)
Metroid Prime 2 (GC/Wii(Trilogy))
Metroid Prime 3 (Wii/Wii(Trilogy))

*Metroid Prime 4 releases December 4, 2025.

I'd love to see another 2D Metroid. I thought Dread was incredible, it just had a shitty soundtrack.

Dread 2 would be great. 10/10 game for me.

I have never really cared for the Prime games. I did get Prime 1 Remastered and will give it another shot.

I'd be fine with something new too, like a 3rd person 3D adventure.

I'm honestly done with Metroid most likely. I hated Dread, story and gameplay, and as much as I loved Prime 1 I haven't cared for any of the follow-ups especially with all the lame shit Tanabe keeps pushing. I'll just continue to replay the 5 games I actually enjoy and leave it at that.

Hoping for two things :
- Metroid Prime 2 then 3 remastered with the same level of quality than the first (no need to rush)
- Mercury Steam being removed from the 2D series

I also think Nintendo needs to figure out a way to allow Switch users to purchase games from their vintage systems again…like virtual console.

This will never happen. They prefer the subscription model because they can end it when they want and won't have to offer any kind of support decades later.

If anything happens after MP4 in the short term I think it'll be Metroid 6 being revealed next year after they're done promoting Metroid Prime 4 and if the new Prime does well enough they'll do Metroid Prime 5 and 6 to complete a new 3D trilogy.

I'd love love love a remaster of MP2 the same as MP1 got but it seems less than likely given that its been rumoured they'll simply get upscale style remasters. Maybe they're just working on it/them now though.

Remakes of 1/ZM and Super (I think they'd consider 2 remade already with Samus Returns, unfortunately imo) would be cool just to see them all redone in 3D and shiny and new but I think that's also unlikely since they have the different controls/gravity feeling and it would be an injustice to change them + a bit boring to homogenize them.

Other M had great potential if it wasn't for Sakamoto imposing that Team Ninja couldn't use the Wii nunchuck. Give a sequel to Platinum, get some Metal Gear Rising level writing and style in there, and you'd have a winner.

Side-scrolling Metroid without the MercurySteam counter system. It interrupts the perfect flow of gameplay that Super, Fusion, and Zero had.

I've beaten the 2 remake and Dread but younger players who can't do counters might be left with a bad impression of the series if they can't get past things like E.M.M.I for example.

Reimagining, excluding most known lore and so far back you have to find the suit for the first time. Chozo exist and it's their tech on an abandoned planet but Samus doesn't know them.

Platinum doesnt do level design.

All of the choices are no good IMO.

A new 2D Metroid with killer 2D art and another all time classic soundtrack, which hasn't happened in a Metroid game since Super Metroid.

If we got another 3D Metroid, it should basically play like Returnal with the Metroid formula applied. The Prime series is just not great IMO.

Brand new 2D entry would be my top choice. I don't think anything needs a remake, but a Samus Returns HD port would be OK. Super Metroid and the GBA games are already fine on NSO. Prime 2 can just be released on Gamecube NSO and Other M/Prime 3 can be Wii NSO whenever Nintendo gets around to that.

I'll take anything. But if I get to pick freely I'd go for Metroid 6 (2D). I thought Dread was incredible.

After that I'd go for Metroid Prime 5 (assuming Metroid Prime 4 can keep up the high standards of the rest of the series).

A remake of Super Metroid sprinkled in-between would be very cool to see as well.

VR. I'd like to see Meta getting the license from Nintendo and put Armature to recreate Metroid Prime Trilogy on the Quest, like they did with Resident Evil 4.

Prime 2 and 3 remastered. And then give me an uprezzed version of Samus Returns while you're at it. The game is legit, and some would argue it's better than Dread (pity they had to go and ruin the original's perfect ending).

A fresh start game that doesn't rely on the stale tropes from the older games.

Barring that, a "real" Super Metroid update that kept the floaty physics, sequence breaking, and save spot rarity.
