MGS 5 or Witcher 3?

Can somebody tally up all the votes. I only played witcher 3 and it's one of the best games ever for me so far on ps4, disable all the motion blur and the framerate gets much better. I don't understand why there is so much hate for the combat in witcher 3, It's better then most open world games

At a quick glance, it's like 60-40 for the Witcher 3.

MGS5 has a better gameplay but very very repetitive, Witcher 3 does everything else better. (Open world, music, story, enemies variations)

I finished every single thing in Witcher 3, currently working on MGS 5, about 30 hours in. It's shocking how little story there is in that game, soundtrack is basically non existant as well so far.

So in the end I'd recommend Witcher 3

MGS5 has excellent game play and the addition of open world is nice and all, it just feels extremely barren and repetitive.

The Witcher 3 felt like it had a lot more variation and the world felt a lot more dense IMO. I haven't beaten MGS5 yet so I withhold final judgement but that's just my take at the moment.

Edit: I'm thinking MGS5 could have benefited from current gen console and PC development only. The addition of previous gen console most likely neutered their design decisions.

huh... how can you suggest one over the other when you have played only one of them?

Nah ha, that's MGS3.

Hmm did you miss the part of my post where I recommended the TPP solely to die hard MGS fans?

And yeah MGS 3 gameplay is great..

But the stealth sandbox gameplay and bag of goodies you can play with in V elevate it above all other Metal Gear games.

Good story/mediocre gameplay.

or

Phenomenal gameplay/mind numbing 'story'.

Having read the books, I wasn't too impressed with The Witcher 3. But it was more of a personal preference in regards to characterization and accents.

Agree. After GZ, it's a huge disappointment to see the maps of TPP. Most of the places are just not that well designed or complex. Many of the bases are extremely predictable, there're no cameras and not a lot of geometry to get lost in.

I just can't see the reason for going open world if you're not going to use the great elements of open world.

This makes me think, there isn't a single mission I've played so far that is even close to as good as the main one in GZ, both objective and layout wise. I hope that changes, I'm about 40 hours in so far though.

I love that this thread is still going!!

Just a quick update that i got to play Witcher 3 for an hour last night and so far i REALLY love it!!!! Gonna dig in more tonite but so far im very happy with my purchase. Im still gonna get MGS5 down the line too!

You'll probably play W3 for 125 hours, finish MGS V twice, and people in here will still be going back and forth. :p

Make sure you turn on the alternate movement setting in Witcher 3.

Yeah it comes down to what you want from the game, a story driven game with an interesting beautiful open world you play witcher. But do you want some of the most incredible gameplay ever put in a game, you go MGSV. I play games to play them, it's no contest for me, MGSV.

Witcher 3 has boring repetitive gameplay. Every battle plays out the same way, most every quest will have you follow a glowy red line that takes you exactly where you need to go and then you fight something, that's mostly the whole game.

MGSV provides unparralleled gameplay freedom. Everythng from a mission to a side op can be done any way you want. It's incredible.

If I was asked this a week ago, I'd have laughed and said Witcher. Now, I'm really not sure. MGSV is way better than I thought it'd be. You can't go wrong with either.

60 fps open world stealth game vs rpg that have broken framerate that barely stays on 30fps with areas with 20 fps all the time, that can barely run when fog or fire is on screen.

go mgs 5

Yes because this is the only thing to consider when deciding what game to play.

MGSV by a country mile. I love the Witcher 3 btw; it's a must play and one of this years better games, but that game is clunky as hell, overstays its welcome by quite a few hours and falls into the very same trap many of its peers fall into: repetition.

MGSV has so unbelievably much depth to its gameplay, the sheer number of possible ways to tackle any given mission is just incredible. The world design is great as well, but it's obviously very different from the Witcher 3's world. For me gameplay will always be king and MGSV is one of the best games I've ever played in that regard. But again, play the Witcher 3 as well, it's got other great elements to it that don't quite work as well in MGS like the story.

Are you the type that endlessly played MGS 1, 2, 3, and 4 by just messing with guards and using all your cool tools to entertain yourself for hours? Then you should buy MGS5 because this game takes that to the Nth degree. Make your horse poop in the road in front of a moving car and have them slide into a mine or C4 and see how far they fly. Cool dumb stuff like that

Yes because this is the only thing to consider when deciding what game to play.

If people cared about performance first maibe publishers would give a shit and dont release games with disgusting performances or plain brken like skyrim ps3 was.

Piece of advice, and I would not want you to miss out like a few of us did: Get to Skellige as fast as you can by sticking to the storyline moreso than the sidequests for the time being. Dropping yourself in Skellige is like immersing yourself into an entirely different game.

Why do you think that is? Skellige is when I got hooked on the Witcher... What was missing from Velen/Novigrad and White Orchard, I wonder...?

This is like asking if you should eat steak or lobster for dinner. Can't really go wrong with either choice (unless you are allergic to shellfish).

The same could be said about the Witcher 3.

If you're world building and attempting to captivate people in your clockwork world, then an open world provides clear benefits.

As I stated earlier, MGS is clearly zoned around bases. I mean, there is nothing to see or do outside of these large zones. Snake isn't going to randomly meet an NPC or find a hidden cave somewhere, you're not uncovering a world, everything is clearly visible. All your discovery happens while infiltrating.

They're pretty close for me, it's tough to say. Both have their positives and negatives.

MGS V's story and some of the characterization (like mute Snake and boring Ocelot) is pretty disappointing. But the gameplay is incredible. There are so many options at your disposal and pretty much all of them are fun and viable. It also controls really well and the performance on PS4 is sublime.

Witcher 3's world is incredible with literally dozens of interesting questlines filled with great writing. I also really like Geralt as a character. Buuut the combat can become kinda grating after a while and the performance is total shit in certain areas on PS4.

I'd probably go for MGS V just because it's so fun to play and has yet to get old even after dozens of hours.

Caves, towns, hidden items, world building atmosphere, etc. Don't be so bitter.

And most of them are boring.
Most of the towns/villages might as well be not there as it adds nothing to the game.
It's either abandoned or filled with people that has only one line of dialogue.

You think performance is the LEAST of The Witcher's 3 problems? That's a bad opinion right there. Game is phenomenal...performance is clearly one of the few issues. You are 100% likely wrong indeed.
Meh, performance really isn't a problem to anyone but extremely nitpicky people. It's fine for most of the time, there are only certain parts of the game where it's slightly bigger a problem, but all-in-all the game is perfectly playable as is. Even if they fix the performance, the game would still have shitty side-content, janky & simplistic combat, horribly designed skill tree, repetitive & unimaginative quest design, all-too-often annoying horse-riding, way too much back & forth travelling and other problems. I personally consider those far worse problems than the framerate being a bit spotty here & there.

Witcher 3 excells in world-building & story, and even then the ending isn't all that fantastic. From a gameplay POV, it's somewhat broken & plenty flawed.

Most of the small villages have side quest attached to it with their own unique stories or contracts.

Most of the outposts in MgsV just exist in the world, sometimes they have cassette tapes.
