MGS 5 or Witcher 3?

Wild Hunt by a landslide for me. The world is by far more interesting and even the side quests are crafted with such thought that there are stories within stores that still play out even hours after you thought you were done.

I loved Witcher 3 way more than I'm currently liking MGSV, but if we're going PS4 only and not PC...I'd probably say MGSV would be the way to go.

The side quests in Witcher 3 are great, but you could always free roam and do the Side OPs in Metal Gear if you just want to fart around for a little bit and not get too invested in the main story.

Thanks all, keep it coming!!!! Getting in the shower soon and then im gonna head out and get one of them. Lots of great opinions here which is why i asked you all!!! Im still undecided lol

As much as I love MGSV, I keep thinking how Witcher 3's side quests have more story and narrative then most of MGSV's main missions.

MGS V gameplay and technical aspects (graphics and optimization) is way beyond witcher 3. But the world and story is better on witcher 3 IMO. For me gameplay>Everything else in games. So MGS V for me.

Optimization (on consoles) I can agree with, but MGS V is not even in the same league as The Witcher 3 when it comes to graphics. I've played both maxed out on PC, and The Witcher 3 looks absolutely incredible. MGS V looks good but you can easily spot its last gen roots.

The Witcher 3, it's a fantastic RPG even with the obvious filler content (well... just the map markers).

I'm actually starting to get a bit bored of MGS V at this point. It felt really good for the first 30 hours, but just doing a constant barrage of the same side ops is a little annoying as well as all the micromanagement stuff is very repetitive. At this point, I have little care about investing in Mother Base.

I will say, infiltrating the big bases are a lot of fun and the stealth is also really fun.

If you actually care about good gameplay and not suffering through horribly clunky and unsatisfying controls, then MGSV.

That is kind of how I am feeling about MGSV. The gameplay is great, but the world is stale, as are the missions for the most part.

I have to go with The Witcher 3 because the missions were actually interesting. I wasn't just extracting prisoners for 100 hours.

I audibly groan when Kaz tells me to extract/kill some random target who has no bearing on the actual story, especially when it's in an area I'd already cleared a million times whilst doing side ops.

Witcher 3 is getting some meaty expansions very soon, consider this. And no shitty microtransactions.

It's mind-boggling what an inexperienced, Polish developer like CDPR has done with this game.

Witcher 3 is really good at trying to make every task you do have its own payoff. MGSV doesn't really do that for side tasks, and, even "story" missions often can end with just a kaz monologue with a question mark. Not very rewarding.

To expand on my thoughts (slightly)

The games are kind of the inverse of eachother to me, the story in MGS is poor but the gameplay is amazing. The story and world in TW3 are amazing, but I didn't like the gameplay at all.

And, for a game you're going to play for 60+ hours, gameplay is way more important. For me at least.

The Witcher 3 without a doubt. It's actually a good open world game.
Haven't played the Witcher because I shelved the last one after two hours. But MGSV is the best open world experience I've ever played. Seems I don't care about random NPC's standing in the wilderness giving me repetitive side quests. Actually attacking the enemy bases in this game is sandbox-gameplay heaven.

Mgs5 if you want a good game, Witcher if you want story. Witcher's world and story was incredible, but the combat was the worst I've ever played in a mainstream game. Metal gears moment to moment gameplay is some of the best I've ever played, whatever its other faults

MGSV is a game better played in short bursts imo so it would probably be better for you. The gameplay and mechanics are also tight as hell.

The Witcher 3 is much more narrative-driven though and has a great story, if you look for that in a game.

V plays better but towards the end I was dragging my feet getting through that game. If you have a high tolerance for clunky controls The Witcher is probably the better game, or for me at least, the one I'll remember more fondly.

Not to mention how much of the story is explained through listening to tapes. Which I simply do not find all that exciting.

If jumping in and out is an important criteria, then I think that points towards MGSV, one of the great things about Witcher 3 (though a negative in your case) is that you can come across a side-quest which is over in minutes or one that can spiral out for hours into a main questline, both games can be time sinks but with MGSV you can at least take a side-op and know it'll be over pretty quickly.

Yeah that's not even close to an accurate description of The Witcher 3

I couldn't stomach the awful controls in the Witcher 3, MGS5 on the other hand... now there's a game that is just pure fucking bliss to play. And I say that as someone who's never been that crazy about the MGS franchise.

Most fun I've ever had in an open world game. Maybe the trade-off is that there isn't much in the way of a story (though I've completed only 6 or 7%), but if what you get in return is the most polished game I've played in like... forever. I'll take that. Especially as a strong believer in playing games instead of 'experiencing' games that pose as cinema (and thereby losing what makes them special). Kind of funny to say that about a Metal Gear game.

It's great. I'd recommend going with MGS5.

The Witcher 3 without a doubt. I still can't believe how detailed and well-crafted the world is. MGSV 5 is a really good choice too but the world isn't as interesting as The Witcher 3.

Considering you had to ask OP then its Witcher 3, if you had any affinity to MGS the choice would have already be automatic.

Performance wise though on the PS4 I would say MGS5 bests W3 easily

Ok, so i really want both but can only get one right now for a new PS4 game.

Im looking for a good adventure game i can jump in and jump out of and have side quests, and other things to dig into also.

Which would you all recommend? Both seem to have great reviews...

Help me Obi GAF Kenobi...youre my only hope!!!

from that description, the witcher 3 fits, w3 has more story elements with some of the sidequests.

I'm sorry, but repetitive? That's the adjective you want to use for MGS V's side ops, not The Witcher 3's side quests. Not even close to being accurate.

I love both, but The Witcher 3. It has a solid STORY and GAMEPLAY. While MGS5 focuses far too much on gameplay.

For a PS4 I would recommend MGS5. It's 1080/60, looks incredible and runs so buttery smooth. The Witcher is a great game as well, but has a lot of technical deficiencies. Both games are absolutely massive, you can play them for hundreds of hours, there's an incredible amount of variety to them in regards to what you are doing. For me, with MGS5 having more combat options and it's superior technical prowess give it the edge overall. Both games are wonderful and I wouldn't question anyone picking them as game of the year.

Witcher 3 without a question though I might be biased since I've read all the books. I'm disappointed in the way MGSV handles its story and I wish there was a bit more variation in the environments.

TW3 is really good about giving meaning to all of it's quests, it's really my favorite thing about the game.

I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of Witcher 3 votes.

I mean, it is a really good game.
