I am trying to remember MGS2's timeline as far as when it was shown and when it was playable. iirc, MGS2 was playable at E3 2001, PS2's third E3. MGS2 was first shown at E3 2000, the PS2's second E3. and we knew nothing about MGS2 at PS2's first E3 in 1999 when PS2 was just demoed, where we didn't even know what the console looked liked, we just had specs and demos. is that basicly right?

Yes. E3 2001 was when the demo was showed.

MGS2 was playable before E3. ZOE came out in March of 2001, and included a playable demo of MGS2.
