MGS3 is a fucking masterpiece

Went in for a replay of Subsistence.
The way the story perfectly blends action, romance, emotion & humour is just perfect. Naked Snake, Ocelot, The Boss, etc. are all fascinating characters. The gameplay. The fucking details. Memorable Boss fights (The End's one of the best fights ever). That ending still hits so fucking hard tho. Aged damn well. Still hasn't been topped in the realm of stealth games.

We don't talk about the last game.
Nah they are all fantastic GZ and 5 are incredible in their own ways.

You could even add peace walker... but yeah 5 kinda makes it redundant

I also wouldn't mind some crazy 2d-hd remaster of MG and MG2 as well but that's asking alot

We don't talk about survive though. Hot damn did I try convince myself it should be good, all the mechanics are there already I said... I was dead wrong

It's definitely my favorite after MGSV. I actually really like the 3DS version. Super immersive especially with a nice pair of headphones.

First game I bought for my Series X was a disc copy of the MGS HD Collection for 360 so that I could play this fantastic game again, it's so damn good and one of my all time favourites.

I agree.....but I prefer MGS1 & MGS2.
Don't know what it is, I just like 1/ 2 better

My experience with MGS3: clunky controls, terrible camera, unstable frame rate, everything looks piss-yellow and the camo system sucks because you have to pause the game all the time to change camo.

Also Kojima lied about the game, he promised an open-world forest with revolutionary AI but the forest turned out to be a bunch of corridors and the AI is worse than the previous game.

I can understand being disappointed in it narratively but it is one hell of a game otherwise.
The best game in the fucking series. It's so fun to play. Its the evolution of Metal Gear that we saw die way too early.

I also enjoyed the story. The twist near the end and the gameplay sequence that followed was great.

Snake Eater will always be my favorite, though. The hype was massive, and the game delivered. A remake that streamlines the clunkiness would be incredible. They'd have to pull off a Capcom move though.

It's sacrilege that all 5 games aren't in some super collection for all 3 platforms.

Konami dumb

They packaged everything up to 4 into one package for PS3 but that was it. Ridiculous they never tried to bring it forward.

Tell me you're not dissing Phantom Pain here ? Cause thems fighting words.

Incomplete story aside, TPP is the best playing MGS game.

Hard to put that incomplete story aside though. Yeah, the game itself was fantastic.

Survive is MGS3 if MGS3 was good. It runs at 60fps, has good camera/controls and open-world level design.

Yeah it is, easily the best game in the series for me. I really like the setting and time the game takes place in, and man the characters are just awesome. Kojima at his best.

I liked it. Especially since they were upfront that you were playing as Big Boss, unlike that other game I won't mention, lol.

Absolutely.

2 still is better to me, but 3 is amazing too. Back then I almost couldnt believe it was running on PS2.

This. MGSV is one of if not THE best playing stealth game of all time IMO. Despite the story and "MGSness" being disappointing I put over 150 hours into the game. The opening in the hospital with the Bowie cover is amazing.

That being said MGS3 is absolutely a masterpiece and one of the greatest games of all time. Subsistence plays modern enough to still be easily enjoyed, and the music/characters are the best in the series IMO.

Easily in my top 5 games.

I don't like when games add tedious systems that were not in previous titles, like the camo in MGS3. Or some of the stuff in GTA San Adreas or RDR2. Etc.

And to think my dad just happened to get me this game when I was a kid. Noticed it said stealth on the cover and thought I would like it.

He was right.

I actually just bought MGS HD Collection to play on my Series X.

I've never understood the love for 3. MGS2 is better. And 3 retconned the Patriots into the goons you talked to - including Para-medic and Signit - instead of something interesting. Story was off the rails already by that point, but this retcon turned it from off the rails fun to off the rails lame.

As far as my enjoyment go - I liked the MGS3 the most as well. So for me, it's

MGS3 > MGS1 > MG (MSX) > MGS4 = MGS2
I haven't finished MG2, Peace Walker, and two of V, nor went that far with Ghost Babel and other stuff.

All of them, I liked - when I actually got the hang of it - but Metal Gear games, somehow feels quite difficult for me to maneuver effectively like some of the real vets that I see on the Youtube. I know I would need to git gud, but at this tender age of 49, I'm not really sure whether I would get any better playing games. :(

I can just never figure out how to play 3. I'm a stickler for stealth secrecy (I'll just let me character get killed often if I'm spotted, ) but nether the OG or Subsistence camera system ever seemed to show me what the AI was doing or how blind they were when I moved. Just never understood the radar or the view system.

1,2,4, I've played and loved, also the first PSP and GB games. Ground Zeroes, I completed but didn't get the awareness system there either, and then 5 and PW I have but sat on.

Is it just worth pushing through 3 the hard way, or is there something in missing about how enemies spot you?

Having to constantly pause the game to change your cammo was annoying. Also, in my opinion it was starting to show the beginning of the decline of the series with marvelised and comic like characters and too much melodrama. Still a great experience but it wasn't the revolution that was MGS2.

I remember absolutely loving the story in this game, but at the same time being extremely impatient with the gameplay. It almost felt like a chore that I had to complete in order to get my reward in the form of the next story beat.

I actually planned on replaying the entire series about a year ago, considering that I haven't played any of them since high school, however, I only managed to get through The Twin Snakes, plus about half of MGS2, and then I gave up. I'm probably gonna continue where I left off last time but man, if we're picking favorites here, there are simply no other games in this series that would even compare to the original MGS for me. Even Twin Snakes, for all its weird artistic choices, kept enough of the spirit of that game to carry me through the entire story in almost a single sitting.

Metal Gear Solid 1 >>>>>>>>>> everything else.

Played both MGS2 and MGS3 last year for the first time and was blown away by both. I'm looking forward to playing them again at some point.

This post tells me I need to play the OG metal Gear since your list is the same as mine otherwise.
