just a lens flare effect, nothing to see here.

This is their lens flare effect.

This doesn't look the same

we still haven't find out what those damn lines are.

Reminds me of DNA sequences. Noticed how it always appears when someone enables/ starts interacting with some kind of electronic device. The beginning of genome soldiers and SOP ?

Haha I love Metal Gear threads, I think everyone is looking too far into things.

probably because lens flare as seen in the first picture is used to signify danger to the player and they want to differentiate the stylistic effect from a gameplay mechanic.

I just checked again, the sound effect when he's about to get caught is totally different than the one with the orange lines. It's not the same effect.

Yeah, it's interesting.

that's what i was saying. they want to associate a certain noise and lens flare type with danger and another with being just harmless and part of the cutscene.

Quoting form the link I've posted at the top of the page:

Kojima is a fan of movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner, and their use of lens flares. He also reveals that the lens flare in this specific scene (made out of rows of blocks of light) was inspired by one used by Japanese idol group AKB48.

Games always use lens flare effects with a light source in it. For example BF

Where is the light in this?

or this, the lamp has no lens flare effect

to me this all doesn't makes sense. Oh and sorry for my shitty english.

Quoting form the link I've posted at the top of the page:

Yeah, "inspired" but that doesn't mean they implement it for nothing.

Who is the guy confirming 1080p 60fps? Is he straight from konami? Does this qualify as official confirmation, or is it just some guy saying it?

Ayako is the personal assistant of Kojima.

About the 1080p/60fps... didn't the guy who saw it on reddit mention it was clearly running at 60 frames with no drops? I think some other sites reporting on the demo might have too. But yeah she's pretty official.

Yes! They confirmed 1080p, 60fps a ways back and have brought it up time and time again. Always nice to see it reaffirmed, however!

This is why I love MGS. The insanely good theories!

The thing is, with a combination of position and type of anamorphic lens, you could potentially have a shot where there's quite a lot of lens flare even though the light source isn't visible or right on the edge of the screen.

Here's a couple of examples:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8iWa_29TJg&feature=player_detailpage#t=133
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=OtPEk2qIeRU#t=49

All you really need is a light that hits the lens at some weird angle. Although you're somewhat right about the lens flares as they frequently look fake and fabricated, but that can easily be attributed to the popularity of such off-screen lens flares, post Abrams era. Hell, Fringe had crazy stupid lens flares everywhere in the first few episodes until they toned it down.

I'm not saying the effect couldn't be something more, I think the DNA comparison has been made before, mentions of secret codes etc. but it could also be just flashy effects.

Since we're throwing out theories, let it be known on the record that I still think the nurse in the GDC trailer is Eva. I know that theory made some people irrationally upset but I am sticking to my guns until the game comes out.

No that's Para Medic. The voice actress of her even retweeted the nurse pic.

You deserve a prize for this amazing theory.

Watched the E3 trailer like 10 times at this point. I'm so hyped man. And I'm even warming up somewhat to Kiefer as Big Boss. Liked his dialogue at the end of the full trailer.

And re: the earlier talk about Solid Snake - he's totally going to be in the game. It's why Kiefer was brought in for BB, so Hayter could be Solid Snake =D

Ok, so I played MGS 2 and 3... read about MGS1 and the MG games..just started MGS4.

I know Peace Walker is before MGSV, and that Ground Zeroes is a prequel..

I want to possibly preorder this, but I want to watch the trailer first. Is it massively spoilery if I watch it, despite not having played Peace Walker or MGS4/GZ yet?

You "read" about MGS1 and just starting MGS4? Drop 4 right now, and go back to 1. You'll miss quite a bit of context in 4 if you don't.

To answer your question. No. Hell Kojima's trailers are purposely edited to mislead people because Kojima hates trailers that spoil too much.

I read the storyline to figure out the characters so that I could understand MGS2. I played MGS2 and 3...

Will I really be missing so much?

Please anyone explain to me what does Fulton recovery mean? Staying still near a wall and wiat until you recover (aka the system that first implemented in the Gateway series)?
