MH Wilds Producer agrees PC gaming is key for Jpn games: "There are more players than ever playing on PC, including in Japan"

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch

As part of our recent interview with the Monster Hunter Wilds devs, we asked producer Ryozo Tsujimoto if he'd agree that PC is a major growth platform for Japanese games. "Yeah, there are more players than ever playing on PC, including in Japan," Tsujimoto said. "so we definitely see room for the series to capture new players who haven't tried it before if that's their chosen platform."

That's part of why Capcom was so keen to implement crossplay in Wilds, so that "the choice is yours on which platform you want to play with, and then [you can just] go online and hunt with your friends."

Monster Hunter in particular has found big success on PC. Comparing peak concurrent players on SteamDB is very much an unscientific process, but it helps illustrate just how well Monster Hunter has done on the platform. The recent Monster Hunter Wilds beta reached a peak of 463,798 players, eclipsing the peak of the megahit Helldivers 2. And yeah, the beta's free, but Monster Hunter World hit a peak of 334,684 at its launch, eclipsing the biggest number that Skyrim or Starfield ever managed.

Capcom's been taking some extra steps to give PC players a good experience with Wilds, reducing the game's system requirements and releasing a big ol' benchmarking tool just ahead of the recent beta. Here's hoping Japanese developers keep up this kind of support for the platform.

Here's hoping devs do the bare minimum when releasing a game on PC.

Let's be honest, the console versions also look poorly optimized.

The PS5 version seems to be running pretty well according to the people who did the 5 hour press event in Europe.

But yes, optimization overall is not their strong suit, or really a hallmark of the RE engine at all.

I'll again bemoan the squandered potential of the Fox engine. Konami should've licensed it.

"Pc gaming is Key", proceds to make one of the worst optimized games i've ever saw on PC.
.
Nope dude, the game runs equally bad on all platforms. And on console you don't even have the option to bruteforce better iq and FPS.
Capcom is sharing their technological incompetence, namely the re engine, with everyone equally.

Which sucks because PC players ruined MH speed running. Too many cheaters, many people exposed, and even the players who don’t outright cheat, often times still mod in perfect decos.

In addition to this is the use of overlays (that are hidden from stream) which show every possible bit of information about the monster, such as stun values , part break health, wound timers, status effect levels, ect, so even if they aren’t outright cheating, they can overlay all this information and make seemingly amazing reads on the monsters.

Combine with perfect decos, it’s turned the entire series into a joke for speed running. I don’t take any PC runs seriously at all.

Sometimes I wish Monster Hunter would have stayed niche or at least just big in Japan mostly.

The Worlds beta was a huge bummer. I totally get wanting to further expand the audience but it feels like it is coming at the expense of some of the DNA of the series. Though I guess you can argue that's been happening for a while and this is just the natural progression.

I suppose it's good that a Japanese company is now admitting, and can see that PC is larger than playstation 5 in their home country.

They are supporting after their largest local platform.

This game could be huge on PS and PC worldwide. I just hope it's good enough at launch. I want to buy it day one, but I'll wait for an update on the quality at launch.

PC is bigger than PS5 in Japan. For example SF6 sold more on PC than PlayStation 5 there.

I highly doubt PC is stronger than PlayStation in Japan.
