"Where we diverged with the CMA was on remedies. We accepted a 10-year free license to consumers to allow them to stream all Activision games for which they have a license via any cloud service. And why did we do this instead of blocking the merger? Well, to us, this solution fully addressed our concerns. And on top of that, it had significant procompetitive effects.

Consider the pre-merger situation, where Activision does not license its games to cloud services. So, in this case, the remedy opens the door for smaller cloud services in the EU to offer big games on their platforms, widening choice for gamers. The merits of this remedy was recognised across the spectrum - by developers, by cloud gaming providers, by distributors and of course also by consumer groups. And that is because it unlocked the potential of the cloud market."

They realise the benefits to everyone, CMA need to wake up.

Interesting vestegar says this

Where we did have concerns was in cloud gaming - still a nascent market but one we expect to grow, because it offers many advantages for gamers. For one, it enables gamers to untie games from specific devices - that means more accessibility and lower cost. So cloud gaming deserved an in-depth assessment. This was a common concern because, like us, the CMA focused on this market.

So EU see it as a market as well? That could be a blow to MS if they tried to appeal to CAT on the market definition point maybe?

This quote isn't really anything special. It gives CMA more ammo, EU did what they though was good for their market.

I know. But a lot of folks are hoping MS use the EC decision to help them appeal to CAT.

When both regulators will do what they consider is best for their market.
Microsoft’s appeal requires them to demonstrate that the CMA acted illogically. The EU having the same conclusions but differing on the remedies is useful to Microsoft in this regard, however, it’s no silver bullet - it could be that the EU acted illogically. It’s up to the CAT to decide.

it's not useful, CAT doesn't care about remedies that's CMA decision

It's you guys that need to wake up.
If this deal gets approved, Xbox will lose of games, due to Sony retaliation.

There is nothing good about this deal, other than MS pocket.
Anything that shifts the marketshare closer to a more even split will give 3rd party developers more of a pause when it comes to making exclusive games, and it will be more expensive for Sony to lock down 3rd party deals. Meaning less 3rd party exclusives than there are currently.

Besides, Sony already sees the writing on the wall, Microsoft wants to acquire developers/publishers. Sony isnt going to wait for the ABK deal to close to enact their own strategy of acquisitions and exclusive content deals.

If Sony buys Capcom, I don't know how MS can recover from that. That is a gameover.

A solution like that only works in theory. It would be nearly impossible to implement because of red tape between all cloud providers, not to mention probable technical incompatibilities between the tech used by each provider.

So the EC has the same conclusion as the CMA but they embrace policing the market and the potential fines.

I've been saying that since the decision. That is the EU way. Their dollar is plummeting, they lost their 4th largest GDP, and they stay afloat by levying future fines at the expense of the consumers and markets..

Yeah, this guy is just promoting fiction at this point. Am not surprised that the idiots on twitter are gobbling this nonsense up.
Is he arguing that someone who is being paid, or has previously been paid, by a company can’t be trusted…

Whilst at the same time admitting he is being paid by Microsoft?

He is arguing that merely working for a company 10 years ago that is (supposedly) representing Sony's interests in the ABK case today equates to a conflict of interest and thus the entire CMA is suspect.

We PRO-competitive, baby.

Seen how MS cant manage their studios for shit .. and sony now wants to be a gaas multiplayer gen z rainbow publisher.. leave the fucking third party publishers and studios alone as they are.
Jim Ryan wants to rule live service games, and won't stop until he does it.

I'm desensitised to this shit. Looks like your average modern day GAAS or Ubisoft game.
every week I try a new mobile game, and this is the type of shit that I see.
They mostly benefit from flash sales with big offers. Unless you are late game player, you won't know that most early sales are shit and only allows you to progress little bit faster.

For example, I played game of thrones browser game for 2 weeks, and the amount of in-app purchases almost made me spend my money, due to how good some rewards were.
It wasn't until I discovered that certain units needed shards to upgrade to higher levels and that it was a wasn't enough with these resources. And certain stages were power locked, which needed higher stage units. But those units require shards, which needs constant farming. And that is hard due to limited energy.

the game was designed to maximize players spending and make you locked in to that game due to grinding that you did for your account.

Watch MS have a showcase of mostly single player games while Sony had mostly GaaS. Fucking world flips lol. (Probably the game trash GaaS though)

Unfortunately big SP games have big start and gone besides forum chatter. These companies are trying to maximize every $ they can and GaaS seems to be the way 🤢
