Microsoft bribing members on Gaming-Age though AEG... What do you think?

I think that deserves it's own thread. Thanks to Firest0rm who brought that to me attention in this thread http://forums.gaming-age.com/showthread.php?t=22296&page=1 I was aware that Microsoft though their publicity company AEG is bribing members to hype games or "change their opinion" about games. Now I find this utterly disgusting. Also this link http://www.aeginfo.com/about.html Firest0rm also gave has some strange stuff in there:

We've got fantastic relationships with editors of top influential game and entertainment sites, including Yahoo! GamesDomain, AOL and Gamespy. And we're willing to leverage our strengths to ensure that our clients get in front of millions of eyeballs.

Now some of you will tell me I'm taking this way too seriously, well I think bribing is serious. Plus I trust this forum I want it to stay clean, and when I read an opinion I need to know it's legit. What's your opinion on this?

I vaguely remember a poster here being outed a while back. Damned if I can remember the details, though. More recently, someone was busted on a UK forum defending Driv3r to the far ends of the Earth, only to be exposed as a marketing shill.

Rest assured that I take a very dim view of this kind of behaviour, and have no problem stripping account privileges if warranted.

Yes....play....more.....Xbox....games.....

That is pretty shady. I think anything, whether the PS2, XBox, or Gamecube, should stand on its own merits. I'm not sure where other people stand, but if AEG, or an AEG like outfit contacted me through PM, I'd sing like a canary.

Then, why don't you write a book about american video game history, and how Microsoft are superheroes in that story ?
I think Dean Takahashi already tapped that market. Good book, too.

the sad thing is that i trust the xbots on this forum to blindly follow microsoft because they actually want to instead of just being paid to do so.

Is this the thread were we can put ourselves out there, so to speak? I'm very bribable. Any shady PR flacks looking for forum lifers (been here 5 years!) to do their shilling would do well to inquire about my very reasonable rates. As a OTer my gaming opinions are largely unknown, so sudden shifts into rabid fanboyism would be easily explained.

But the problem is... how can you know? I mean Driv3r is obvious (cause the game is horrible) but when we're talking about most of the games opinions are different and subjective. Who do I know that AEG isn't bribing 1/10th of the forum members and how can I know who these members are and not trust them? The problem isn't the members, it's AEG and Microsoft and their business practises. I mean Firest0rm said he was contacted by them. I wonder how many others were contacted...

Those suckers that are paid to hype games in gaming boards deserve to die. It's a form of disinformation and there's no way i can agree with that. It's trying a brainwash. It is sure no fair business and the only thing it helps is to entice us even more in trusting nobody.

I was contacted by a user with the name scuttlebutt who wanted me to "discuss" CDV's games here, he seems to have been removed because i can't access his account. So can you check about him bishoptl?

Gaming Age needs to crack down on viral marketing. It hurts the integrity of the forum.

But if anyone is giving free DS games feel free to PM me :D

Don't trust me on november 21 when I'll say that the DS rocks, you know, Nintendo is bribing me by giving me one.

And I fully support this strategy.

It's been a long time i read between your lines my friend. ;)

And what "We've got fantastic relationships with editors of top influential game and entertainment sites" means for god's sake? Is this kind of business practises even legal?

I already trust nobody including game reviewers so it's not a problem, I try to get my impressions from alot of different sources. Especially with big budget releases.

This kind of behaviors sickens me. Guys i am just back from playing the new fighting game from Tecmo, Dead Or Alive Ultimate. Man lemme tell you how they outdid themselves this time! they are really pushing the limits of the Microsoft Xbox system, but dont worry, The Xbox Live servers provided us with a solid experience. I was playing with people from europe, japan, and america and I noticed little to no lag!

Oh and DOA:U is 35.99$ at EB for a limited time

Well I don't see why it should be illegal for a corporation to have a good relationship with other corporations. The issue here is that there's nothing against the method used for inflitrating forums. Because their bypassing the ToS by not promoting their products directly.

Yeah, exactly... thats a really scarry comment!

I dont know how you guys are acting all surprised, do you guys actually think that the mags that you guys worship for their reviews are clean? Clean like Tina's pure white panties? DOA:U in stores now

I'd sleep easy if I knew our fanboys were being paid instead of choosing to say what they say. Again and again. Trolling would be acceptable if it was their job, not their sad little hobby.

This is crazy, I know I've argued tooth and nail with people at times. Makes me wonder now

And the subtitles to the forum names would provide many laughs

Don't be ridiculous. This would never happen. Microsoft doesn't need to buy us. The almighty, all-powerful XBOX Video Game System sells on the strength of its revolutionary graphics, cinematic sound, 400+ hit software titles and intense multiplayer action through XBOX LIVE alone. All for the low, low price of $149.99.

today while surfing at internet sites such as msn.com and xbox.com and watching MSNBC, i thought i'd give a call to 1-800-4-my-xbox to renew my xbox LIVE subscription. The microsoft rep was very informative and even told me about upcoming hits such as halo 2 and conkers bad fur day. Before I had made that phone call my life was a mess. But microsoft has changed my life.

Well we're definately going to stop paying you. Rule 4a. specifically states that all all mentions of [the greatest company ever] Microsoft and their incredible products must include at least 1 capitalized letter. 'XboX' or even 'Xbox' are much more attention grabbing than 'xbox,' you need people to see your enthusiasm.

I think that just means we return their calls. Any other inferences: molehill -> mountain. And screw them for forgetting the capital S in GameSpy. AEG just lost a relationship point!

The viral forum stuff is disturbing, though.

My opinion is that the Xbox is AWESOME!
Only if it's Crystal.

I wouldn't mind getting paid to post about how great the Xbox is, because

1. It is a revolutionary gaming experience, and
2. I haven't been getting my checks from Acclaim recently. Maybe they're too busy making high-energy, action-packed games to get to the mailbox, I don't know.
