Microsoft bribing members on Gaming-Age though AEG... What do you think?

Free Software <> Bribe.

Though I pay for some stuff I review, most of it's free software. Doesn't mean I pimp it in forums, or automagically give it a 5/5.

Check their website and firest0rm's post and it really you don't have to be a genius to see where the thing is going. And I assume you're a reviewer and you're being contacted as one and that's normal. Firest0rm on the other hand was contacted as a forum member not a reviewer and that's not normal.

I know, it sucks, they didn't pick you to get the free games :)

This doesn't surprise me one bit. They probably pay retail employees too.

My local EB is loaded with Xbots and nothing else. Just today I got sucked into an argument because they were saying stupid shit that I couldn't let stand such as:

1. DOAU is the best and deepest fighting game on the market. (Guess they forgot about SCII and VF4)

2. There are no good PS2 exclusives coming out next year. (Had to remind them about FFXII, DQVIII, Tekken 5, Suikoden 4, DMC3, etc).

I still like the DOAU ads calling it an "All new fighting game." Haha.
But the Software Etc./Gamestop in the Bellevue Square mall is full of Xbots. My roommate and I stopped in. (I bought Brace Fencer Musashi for a friend) My roommate, Rivorus, walked over and played Donkey Konga in the back. One of the employees, with nothing else better to do, walks over to him and heckles him for playing it. It got pretty bad, too bad I already made my purchase.

It's not fanboy wars in here kid. Corporate interferance in a forum where you're supposed to exchange, and trust each others opinions, is something I find disgusting no matter who does it. I mean we have to put up with fanboys, trolls, idiots, and now with corporation sluts? Enough is enough.

yet i bet you guys would be perfectly happy if they were nbots.
Not really. It sucks when people go out of their way to insult perfectly good games simply because of the platform. That and people who think Halo 2 is the only game released between Fable and Conker:L&R.

alright then -- name names. enough with the subtle innuendo.

Why do people keep saying that? Name names? How the hell are we supposed to know who else is doing it?

alright, then.. your best guess. Since its obviously such a large problem on here.

Who do you think is on the take for "M$"?

Well if there's any here that are indeed recruiting. I'm interested in joining. Please pm me or provide with me with the relevant details required to apply.

I guess I'm a little confused by the outrage here. Why is it of such great concern that forum members might be being paid to promote games? Sure, it's DUMB, but it doesn't seem like such a huge threat to the gaming world. I mean, is anyone's opinion actually going to be changed just because Microsoft paid someone to post about how great Halo 2 is? Plenty of people are already doing that for free!

I don't want to do PR for free if everyone else is getting paid. Buy me out, Nintendo! Do it!
I'm pretty cheap! All I require are hookers and free games!

Everyone does some form of whoring out to get good buzz. I especially can't see how some of you who are editors or former editors believe this is totally false, when you know how competitive the industry has become. Word of mouth is by far the best form of advertising in any industry, no marketer would hesitate if they had a chance to control how it works.

It's as subtle as site visits or press room sponsorships at gaming conferences. You may think that it's really not a big deal to you, but it plants that seed in your head and puts one company over the rest during a show. And if someone is getting kickbacks, and enjoying it, how likely is that person willing to spoil a good thing and be a whistleblower?

I would not, however, put all the blame on Microsoft. As popular as it may be, it could very well be AEG's own idea to "generate leads" via forums. I'm sure MS is aware of it, as they share this information in a weekly or bi-monthly reports. And to be honest, if I was in Microsoft's shoes, I wouldn't ask them to cease operations.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like this at all. It's ridiculous and done in poor taste, but that's how I feel about 75% of the PR agencies out there anyway. Oh, and BTW, we're doing exactly what they want, giving them free pub.

Reading this just makes me somewhat comforted, it means maybe, not ALL of the people who act like completely slanted stubbon dopes on the forum are actually doing it for free out of their own unhealthy obsessions with companies, rather they have actual incentive to act that way.

Its not exactly more noble to act that way out of some misguided crusade to sell consoles, and theres plenty who do, I'd find a random twit who promotes Blinx in exchange for pennies alot less disturbing then the olimario's or lazy8's you get around here.
