Step one: Force the board of directors to hire an ex exployee as the CEO through some shady fucking tactics
Step two: Force Nokia to become WP exclusive and since WP is a disaster make Nokia completely depended on Microsoft moneyhats
Step three: After Nokia is completely weakened and helpless buy it since they have no other option
Microsoft ladies and gentlemen, the corporation many in this forum trust.
So Nokia was all "Nooo, they try to ruin us from the outside, we better let them ruin us from the outside and also from the inside"?
Skype cost MS more than Nokia's handset division, kina funny
google buying Motorola for 12.5 billion is even more amusing, though they did buy whole of the company and got its patents... which so far not very useful for them. MS sounds like won't own any of Nokia's gold mine of patents? mentions licensing only.
They let themselves be bullied by Microsoft and its shady tactics and paid the price. It's simple.
Btw it looks like Elop is being rewarded heftily for running Nokia into the ground. Disgusting. If that isn't proof that this fuck was a trojan horse nothing will be for you.
You do realize that Elop joined about halfway through that graph right?
But Nokia was in a downward spiral long before Elop so
Download Visual Studio and the WPSDK. Pay the annual developer fee, develop your app and then submit to the store. What barriers are you talking about?
Mostly for patents would be my guess.
And he worked absolute wonders to reverse the downward trend, didn't he?
So they decided to reward the CEO that accelerated its downward spiral instead of turning things around?
I will never forgive Elop for cutting the legs off of the Nokia N9 almost immediately after its announcement.Certainly could have been worse outcomes after having their pants so far down their ankles in regards to smartphones.
lol, accelerated? They were headed into the shitter at pretty fast rate before Elop arrived.
The Lumia line features a lot of great phones, but I will never buy a cell phone that is a Windows phone.
You do realize that Elop joined about halfway through that graph right?
The facts and numbers themselves are quite revealing and well list them below for you to ponder:
The Microsoft-Nokia deal comes well before 2014 recommitment date
Acquisition grows OEM opportunity; Continue existing partnerships
Microsoft will use offshore cash with no impact on ability to reduce capital to shareholders
Microsoft is acquiring over 8,500 design patents; ownership of Lumia and Asha brands
Microsoft is acquiring more than 60 patents with third parties e.g. Qualcomm
Microsoft is acquiring 30,000 utility patents and patent applications
10 year license to use Nokia brand on feature phones
Microsoft will have the most cost-effective patent arrangements for smart devices, including deals with: Samsung, Qualcomm, IBM, Motorola Mobility, Motorola Solutions, LG, Nortel, and Kodak
Phone device R&D remains centered in Finland
Nokia sales team intact
Acquisition approval in EU, US, China, India, Brazil, Russia, Canada and others
In essence, Microsoft is getting a whole lot for the $7.1 billion dollar purchase. With a streamlined production process, access to Nokias rich portfolio of patents and combined with Microsofts market might, this new formation should rival Apple and Samsungand thats exactly Microsofts goal.
Yes, I even have it written there.
Doesn't change the fact that he took over @ 8€ and brought it down to 3€.
Not exactly a result that you would be happy with of a CEO (despite MS of course).
The Lumia line features a lot of great phones, but I will never buy a cell phone that is a Windows phone.
Like I said, there were worse possible outcomes, lol. Buyout was certainly the most likely scenario given where they were headed. Took them 2 or 3 years longer than I figured though.

Before Elop became a CEO Nokia didn't even consider selling itself. They had problems but also long-term plans to recover. I don't know what you're talking about.
Maybe his family was impacted. Seems to be taking it very personal.I.. I don't even...
Interesting what they plan to do with extra 7 billion dollars. This makes sense for Nokia. They lost money on phones. AFAIk they make money on mapping & networks. Makes sense to cast off the part that is losing you money and regroup on the parts that are.
Wonder how this deal got approoved by the EU...
Wonder how this deal got approoved by the EU...
Almost all of the old cellphone manufacturers have now been bought
HP buys Palm
Sony buys Ericksson
Google buys Motorolla
Microsoft buys Nokia
Apple buys RIM?
Yay, something else MS can drive into the ground
Skype was their last purchase and they're doing a pretty good job with that.
Way I see it, when Microsoft buy something they seem truly passionate about they're very careful, when they're not being arrogant they make amazing products.
I think comparing this to Danger and ignoring Skype is disingenuous.
Skype is software. They didn't touch it, their devices division will destroy this
The comparison still stands, they bought Skype because it worked, they didn't change anything because they didn't need to and they're reaping the benefits. You can apply that to Nokia, they have a winning formula (or as good as it's gonna get).
Skype is software. They didn't touch it, their devices division will destroy this
Yes, I'm sure a gigantic purchase in the entertainment branch of Microsoft will convince shareholders that wanted to get rid off that branch that they need to keep it.In a somewhat unrelated note, this purchase clearly cements Microsoft and their commitment on being "a devices and services company". How many people still think they'll sell the Xbox division?
Skype is software. They didn't touch it, their devices division will destroy this
Here's to hoping that something (good) actually comes from this acquisition.
I hope it doesn't end up similar to the Danger situation.
Yeah, they aren't going to fuck with Asha. They might start messing with the Lumia's, but MS wanted them for their infrastructure and device executive experience mainly. Different from what they wanted Danger for.
Certainly could have been worse outcomes after having their pants so far down their ankles in regards to smartphones.
