Microsoft engineers artificial shortage, Sony laughs sagely

Any thought that early adopters will buy substitute systems is completely fallacious.

This kind of thing does happen with casual buyers down the road with $150 systems. Seasonal PSTwo and Xbox shortages in recent times have certainly lost some customers who would then spend the cash on comparable game systems or other geek gear.

Wow. I wonder what will happen at EB Games in Finland (there is only one store) at launch. They have a pretty good deal on X360 (old xbox + 10 games + 110€ = X360 non-tard pack) and have taken a lot of preorders, including mine.

That doesn't sound like the greatest deal to me (unless you're trading in ten copies of Blinx). However, I can understand that selling off almost everything from the current gen is sometimes the best way to get into the next generation when you're short on cash.

I remember with my DS preorder that EB was giving out the systems in order the people showed up to the store, not by what order they had preordered. I had a review unit from Nintendo, and the in-store preorder was for my bro so I didn't hurry over like I would have if it were my own unit. I ended up picking up their last system and the store had only been open for a little over an hour. I don't know if many stores will do the same for the 360, but I can only imagine how mad some people were when they stopped by EB that night after work or school to pick up their supposed "guaranteed DS" systems.

If you can, show up early. Call into work and take a sick day, ditch school, show up late to your wedding, skip your momma's funeral, just go out and pick up your preorder ASAP that day.

PSP's and DS's are going to fly off the shelves this Christmas. Most people (and parents looking for Xbox360 for their kids) are going to stores with $400 in their pockets. They're not going back home empty handed.

I'm not a collector and I have 10 old games that I wont play anymore so it won't matter what they are. But besides I could buy a new Xbox for 99€ (a special offer) and 10 games lets say for 10€ a piece (and I probably could find some games cheaper). Even at that the saving would be 419-309€=110€.

Edit: Oh, I forgot. They games can be any GC/PS2/XB games.

Or PS2s, XB1s, iPods, Tivos, put towards HDTVs... there is an enormous amount of technology out this holiday. My local Best Buy has an ungodly amount of PS2 and XB1 systems and accessories already. The current generation of console's not exactly dead yet. That $400 could buy a lotta games for current machines.
