We'll see more examples of substantial differences further into the gen, but actually Series S has been handling most things well enough so far.
Perhaps. It will come down to using things like SFS to mitigate lower RAM on the XSS. Running games by simply dumping all assets into RAM running it from there will always be the biggest weakness of the XSS. Luckily that weakness has a solution if developers choose to use it.

I think Darkmage is referring to SFS being used in other titles as a means of optimization. SFS likely doesn't matter much in Flight Sim because the RAM is being eaten up by data for weather, map placement, LODs, etc. Stuff that texture optimization wouldn't help much with. Obviously it sticks out in a 400% zoom, but in motion Series S is very formidable and even more stable FPS wise than Series X. I think it looks great even with some extra pop in and lower LOD detail. It's really only drastic in the dense urban areas like NYC.

I think if you're a reviewer you can't use the genre of a game as a flaw just because you don't enjoy the genre. If you review Football Manager you have to work under the assumption that you enjoy football and management and base your review on that. If you review Crusader Kings you have to assume that you like the Grand Strategy genre, etc. Reviewing Flight Sim and saying there are no dogfights or anything other than a simulation is disingenuous imo (unless the game was somehow misleading you into thinking there would be).

People don't have multiple Xboxes connected to the same television and bounce between to see the differences between the same game running. People who own the XSS actually are most concerned about the cost and that it plays all current generation games. Those customers want value not the highest quality graphics.
First off Jason Ronald didn't say the only difference was resolution so that is a lie. Second the XSS IS delivering the same core experience. The core experience on the Xbox is things like SSD fast loading, Quick Resume, and FPS boost. XSS has all of those features minus the blu-ray drive. Third resolution is tied to graphics and no one has serious argued the XSS would not have compromises in graphics.

Missing 120fps modes in native apps like Destiny 2, BO Cold War... SX has it, but not SS?
Why is 120fps missing from some games on the XSS, the consoles fault? Every developer makes a choice with what features they offer. Just like Gears 5 does have a 120 fps mode and Doom Eternal, and Halo Infinite. Also the XSS has more 120fps games than other more expensive consoles so this isn't a really great point to make. Why don't consoles that cost more offer more games at 120fps than the value console? It is really distressing.
The differences are so stark, and like I said previously people could be forgiven to think it's not the same generation of consoles, if they were unaware of the context.

Depends on location and amount of data it has to stream in. Are you using wired or wireless connection? Flying around Hawaii last night, I was easily getting a nice 60+ fps a lot of times.
Wired, 250mb connection, Flying around Tokyo was a nightmare of jank.

I have seen several reviews of the XSS. Not one person is shocked that the console runs games at a lower resolution. Surprisingly it's only people that don't own the console and know little about have the most negative things to say. It's an amazing fact. The marketing was plenty clear. Consumers were promised a current gen console for $300 that has the same features as the $500 box. Mission accomplished.
Yes I completely agree. I was thinking that the XSS was just a budget console that would barely work and here it is offering more features and games running at 120fps than more experience consoles. MS was being far too conservative with their claims. Perhaps they'll add these points to their next ad campaign.
I have it on PC as well and it runs flawlessly on a GTX 1070 on the same monitor with the same wired connection
