...Ew.

It also only has a single position stand when everyone else has either adjustable friction stands or at least 3 position stands now.

The iPad Pro really seems rushed and not thought out enough. And where is the PEN STORAGE?

Also no track pad and no mouse support (in fact no cursor of any kind), so say hello to gorilla arms for any pointing heavy apps.

Apple really shouldn't have bothered with the keyboard cover at all. They also shouldn't have called the damn thing their "Pro" model. A larger iPad with stylus support is a pretty good selling point all on it's own but with the keyboard cover and the "Pro" name apple has Positioned it as a direct Surface Pro competitor where it isn't actually competitive at all. I doubt it'll be a disaster but the device could end up being a bit of a flop for Apple. Knowing Apple though, they'll probably step up there game come the 2nd or 3rd generation. Then we'll have a real fight on our hands.

Quick question about the Band 2. Does anyone know if the screen is a higher resolution than the original Band? I'm preordering either way, as I am (was?) a huge fan of my first gen Band, but was just wondering.

Thanks =).

Right here:

...what?

That's just the Pencil getting charged.

Think I'm missing the joke here.

This is why competition is great and it's good that Ballmer is gone.

Some of the products shown yesterday must start being developed during Ballmer era. Windows 10, Surface, Azure, all of these were built on the basis Ballmer set up. Nadella is gorgeous, but you can't simply bash Ballmer for the failure of MS in the last few years.

So you saying there should be 1 surface that starts from 900 and goes all the way to 3k? lol

Surface Pro and Surface Book makes much much more sense.
Is this a joke post? The Surface Pro 4 starts at $899 and goes up to $2699. What is another $300, exactly?

The type cover?
Um, sure. I meant that as more of a rhetorical question, where he laughed at the idea of one Surface tablet ranging from $900 - $3000, and I pointed out it's already $900-$2700. So how much of a difference is reality from his example when you get down to it?

That's kinda ridiculous, having the pen sticking out like that while charging, and ofc I haven't tried, but it looks like it is in a way that should bother you while holding and using it.

Makes me feel like just throwing the line "That doesn't look like Apple at all."

I'm kinda disappointed by the pricing of the i5 surface pro 4s. The price jumps are pretty extreme, particularly between the 4GB ($999) and 8GB ($1299). 8GB to 16GB isn't that much better. I'd like the 8GB model for a bit of future proofing and piece of mind, but as of right now I don't think I could justify an extra 4GB for $300 considering what my wife and I will be mostly using this for.

With an SSD I think you'd do ok with 4GB depending on usage. The £100 jump from m3 to i5 seems ok in the UK but then it's a £200 jump just for 4->8GB and 128->256GB SSD. How about an 8GB/128 option? I don't need tons of hard drive space.

Going to take a look at benchmarks - particularly thermal/throttling performance and GPU. If I can get away with the m3 one I will, if the GPU isn't terrible. i7 has the good GPU but you're forced to large SSD so it is out of my price range as it won't be a primary computer in the house

Surface pro docking station is the same insane price as the old one. Fuck that.

Does anyone know when the Surface Book is planned to be released in the UK? It's not on the website yet.

Sidenote - I now have no idea what I want :( went into it thinking I wanted to get an SP4 but Microsoft just went and threw all of that out the window didn't they

The fact that you only need to load it for a few seconds to use it for a session . It's pretty Apple like.

Same on every count. Need to see the UK prices before deciding.

I was all set to buy a new Surface, but with the announcement of the SB, I'm just not sure anymore. Anyone else thrown off by this new choice?

/edit: maybe it's because I like playing the odd game here and there. SB would make more sense, it having a dedicated gpu and all.

SP3 base model costs 879€ here (Portugal). Wtf... for more 130€ I can buy the SP4 base model (which looks like it's way better than a i3 with 64GB of space).

Yeah you're right. I thought they went down with the prices. In that case a SP4 is certainly the better solution.

I mean it's a pretty hefty premium. Almost $500 more for a bigger screen and dedicated GPU.

Yeah, it's the same thing in Spain. The lowest rung SP4 (m3, 4GB, 128GB) will go on sale for €1,000. Meanwhile, the base SP3 (i5, 4GB of RAM, 128GB storage) costs €860.

It seems like a no-brainer to me.

Edit: But not including the keyboard with the Pro model is just a clear example of Microsoft milking the fuck out of its customer base.

I was the same but after thinking about it the book is too expensive for my tastes. The SP4 will be able to handle the occasional game and the price point is about right

Considered selling my 2014 retina macbook pro but £1,079.00 for the SP4 256SDD, i5 and 8GB Ram + £109 for type cover.. I think i'll have to pass.

The type cover with fingerprint isn't on the US or UK store?

Not sure if it's been posted but if you're an sp3 owner looking to buy an sp4 pen for extra sensitivity, don't. The pen reverts to 256 levels when used on the sp3.

So, which nvidia GPU is it?

Given the 1gb of GDDR5 it's at least a 950m (as the 950m is the first in that line with GDDR5 support). The limited memory capacity makes me think it's probably 'just' a 950m as while there's a couple of 1gb 950m implementations out there the smallest I can find for a 960m is 2gb

I think the joke is there's no other pen storage. Panos seemed a little embarassed talking about it, but it's an important point, why is there no pen storage on the Pro? Makes it easier to lose or forget.

Pulled the trigger and preordered the SP4 i5 256/8gb. Comes out in the UK a few weeks after the US so should be able to see a few reviews and cancel if it comes to that. Doubt it will though, man it looks like a nice piece of kit

Can't you just put it in your pocket? That's what I did when I owned the SP3

£230 for 4GB ram and 128GB SSD is painful though. Would have liked an i5/8GB/128GB option for around £949. You can get i5-6200u based laptops for half the price of the SP4 - that's quite the premium for the form factor

Also for the base SP4, the Lenovo Miix 700 starts to look very tempting - also core m but comes with the keyboard for $700. Base SP4 seems very overpriced.

Not understanding why you would even want that over a decently spec'd Surface Pro 3, but whatever

I'd still pass as long as I'm getting sloppy seconds for apps. The Spotify app on my Lumia 635 doesn't even have Connect.

Those are two drastically different products. One's actually a viable computer. The other is a giant iPad.

Yes, they're different. I'm invested into Apple's ecosystem, so I have an interest in a solution from them. That's why.

The Inside Story of Surface Book, Microsoft’s Next Big Thing | WIRED

ONE NIGHT ABOUT two years ago, Panos Panay couldn’t sleep. This happens a lot, waking up in the middle of the night with loud thoughts rattling around in his head. Panay popped off the pillow, reached for his new Surface Pen and his old Surface Mini, and wrote himself an email. (He loves the Mini, a small tablet his team built but never shipped. “It was like a Moleskine,” he says. “It was awesome.”)

I WANT A MINI. :|
