In other news, Sony instructed their social media accounts to go dark in 2020.

This post had me feeling like a kid at Christmas who has just got all the toys he ever wanted, only for Jolly old Santa Clause to come back and fucking take them all away.

These boys are gunna chuck this next gen hybrid shit in the bin and go full cock out on a handheld instead, giving it the big-un about hooking it up to tv ect.

Lol. Playing Nintendos own game

*good luck Morgan freeman gif*

I don't think its the end of Xbox hardware as I would bet a huge amount of money its not

Its just the end of me being able to tease shit, at least for now

But just as I type this I also wouldn't be shocked in the least if Phil tweets Xbox is in fact ending hardware production
I hope they did not get spooked with all of the crap being thrown at Sony for $700. Most people have to know that consoles are going to be more expensive as we move forward. Not just consoles, electronics in general. I am wondering what the sticker shock is going to look like for things like the Steam Deck and other devices. I do not expect them to be cheap.

I might not buy the next Xbox because MS has reinvigorated PC gaming again but I do want the option.

Pretty wild that MS is unable to capitalize on either of the Concord/Pro disasters. That just shows how bad of a situation they, and the entire industry, is in right now.
Because the Concord/Pro "disasters" are quite overblown. One is a high-priced mid gen refresh and the other is one game in a flurry of bangers. Hardly a brand-ending situation.

The only brand truly in bad shape is Xbox. No amount of "but Sony" can blend them in with anyone else.

This is a smart thing to do internally (keeping people in the loop so they don't fuck up and embarrass themselves), but it's very undercut by someone briefing the press about it.

Very odd news piece tbh.

Maybe they are closing up shop, I dunno I didn't ask
Charitable view: they locked down initial specs and want to tone down the talk so Sony doesn't work things out quick and try and launch something with them.

Uncharitable view: Someone upstairs gave a strict red light to the project and it's all over.

Why dont they instruct their staff to release some games instead? Was Hellblade 2 in May the last first party release from them? What do they have now like 35 studios? Psshh

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?

Age of Mythology at the start of September, the next one is Ara History Untold in a couple of weeks and after that the Starfield expansion and then Indiana Jones in December. Avowed was supposed to release this month based on internal dates before it got delayed.

What is better ? A hyper mega trillion dollar company that lays off its stuff all the time while buying studios costing hunders of billions or a company making a 800+ euro "slighty better than before" console ?
A videogame ala 80s crush is imminent, get your parachutes ready

No, it isn't.

What's "better" is irrelevant since they aren't being compared by anyone that matters. Xbox, as a brand, is in a permanent shift. That has nothing to do with Sony and they are not a $3+ trillion because of Xbox. They will drop it like a bad habit if it comes to that and it looks like that is slowly happening. At least, the hardware.

With that feel the burn controller and all the other comical controllers like Oreos, Doritos and whatnot, It comes across that Xbox release new gimmicky controllers more than exclusives.

I've reading the history of communism in Europe and all these news about Xbox these days feel a lot like the last few years of the URSS. It's sad because I've always liked Xbox way better than PS, I hope they close their minds and stop forcing a market that nobody wants. It's like they're doing all of this for the promise of the future instead of actually convincing people in the present that they're a great choice so they can build a good future.

Until Xbox speaks officially on their hardware
Theres no way Satya is greenlighting another generation of Xbox consoles imo. Phil got lucky and blew smoke up his ass like a master and got a bunch of extra years of funding. But the proof is in the pudding. But I'd be surprised if Xbox actually formally announce an end of hardware, still plenty of inventory in the channel, keep the cherished words of Sarah Bond wafting around for false hope.

We never even saw that game changing new haptic controller. Which is a whole lot less effort than whole generation.

I find this interesting because I will repost what I posted last night in the thread talking about Xbox next move

Based on what their "next gen" hardware was rumoured to be and the suggestion that it was going to be on the premium side in terms of pricing, I have no doubt they will be watching the response to the PS5 Pro price very closely.

I think they are going the OEM route. Next Xbox will be like the Surface: a premium device that shows what OEMs should aim for spec and features wise.

It'll run on Windows 12 and the Xbox button on the controller launches the Xbox 'Big Picture'- like mode. Maybe some big gaming optimizations under the hood for Windows 12.

TLDR: Next Xbox = Surface strategy + Valve strategy.

Console gaming for sure. But I don't think PC gaming is down.
In fact, things look bright at the PC front.

I have had the most fun playing dozens of recent games on PC at a heck of discount, esp. Elden Ring, BG3, etc.
I had spent more time spent playing on PC than PS5 this generation. PC only gaming looks the future for me.

They've basically already confirmed another console, haven't they?
Here's what Sarah Bond said (could be almost anything or nothing)

"Dina: "Xbox itself's heritage is in console. The energy around the console right now is a little challenged, many of the hardcore long-term consumers are worried, worried about the release on other platforms, worried that it may indicate that Xbox is defocusing on its own hardware. What do you say to them? How do you make them feel that Xbox is still for them?"

Sarah: "Yeah, at first the worry that I see is happening across the industry and I think that a lot of what we see is just industry all up. But specific to core gamers, my focus has really been on engineering and building that next-generation hardware experience that really, really, taps into their needs. I talked about this a little bit publically a few months ago, that our focus was on delivering the biggest leap ever. And that's about really thinking through every aspect of what that hardware and what that experience delivers with the core gamer in mind. And that is about power and performance, absolutely a part of it.

"But it's also about the ability to be able to play all of the games. I mean we have people who have been playing on Xbox for decades and have invested thousands and thousands of dollars and hours with us and being able to take all of those games with them into the hardware of the future. So one of the decisions made when I came in and became president of Xbox was to establish at team dedicated to that to game preservation and ensuring that future generations, future iterations, that you get to take those things with you forward."
