Microsoft is eventually going to rule gaming

But can he predict what I'm having for breakfast tomorrow?

This?

Let's entertain this discussion for a moment.

If Valve/Steam one day, rules gaming by being the biggest de facto platform of choice for a vast majority of gamers...

If they do so by leveraging the OS that is Windows, thus meaning Microsoft is the base provider of that platform of which the winner finds success.

But Microsoft sees practically zero profits from that relationship, whereas Valve is the one reaping the profits in spades...

Can you really call that "MS will one day rule gaming?"

Steam is already getting those profits on PC. There are hardware and software profits to be made, plus branding - and they might be able to leverage running the Xbox mode into pulling users from other pc stores by having more extras with windows bought games.

Can you please go back and elaborate on the whole "PC has no games" please?

Read the thread:

In order to rule Gaming, company would need amazing games that can't be played elsewhere along with UNPRECEDENTED 3rd party support.

That describes the PC, specifically Windows.

Not really.

You're ignoring... games.

PC has no games.

Game companies won't make games on a living room PC by MS, neither will MS.

^this is sarcasm based on above posts

I think so. Stronger machine than Sony, more recognizable franchises, backwards comparability; it's not going to take much.

Unless this is a joke, care to explain which franchises are more recognizable than what Sony has, and, how that will matter at all? For example, isn't Mario Bros. more recognizable than any of Sony's franchises? How has that turned out for 3 different gens?

This for reals?

Their reputation on the PC side of gaming is pretty tarnished, I'd say they have a lot of work to do. I don't think there is anywhere on the internet that praises MS on PC gaming.

As far as recognizable franchises, I think only Forza is performing well? Halo and Gears doesn't seem to be gaining any interest, more like dropping, especially for Gears.

yeah and people are also not happy with microsoft re: windows 10. I hear it constantly. I mean, I agree, but it gets tiring. I just nod vigorously and sympathize.

I know Microsoft thinks they have done this masterful endrun with the software-as-service OS Win10. But they've actually opened themselves up to someone to come in and do what they used to do, but better.

I just don't see this transitioning into MS somehow owning the living room entertainment market that has eluded them for the last 20 years. Not with what they have become today.

It would be a lie to say gears and halo aren't recognizable, regardless of sales. Compared to what recognizable Sony franchises? I wouldn't really call any of them recognizable, besides for Uncharted and GT (kinda)? Maybe GoW, but it's not a huge stretch to say MS has more recognizable series.

But hey. If anything, the recent posts about PSASBR showed me people here think even some of the smaller series are mainstream.

Nothing is guaranteed. 10 years from now Android could get ported to x86 and that integration could upset the whole order. Android for casual users, and steam releases an ultra-light version of Linux that improves game performance and focuses on compatability. No room for Windows.

Just a stupid what if but nobody wants Microsoft's version of universal apps on Windows and that whole experience is like dipping your face in a beehive. They have a long way to go before being anything but a begrudging requirement for PC gaming.

I think that MS probably would reign supreme if they could actually pull this off (or Valve, if they had any ambition anymore). I could write a whole book on how I think it would work and why it would be successful, but the real takeaway is that I don't think MS is capable of pulling it off. They certainly aren't capable of advocating for their hardware via exclusives atm, and that's one of those things you really need to have locked down.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

literally what the absolute fuck are you talking about dude? Is this a joke thread?

Oh it has games, it just doesn't have any exclusives that console players are desperate for, I mean what was the last PC exclusive we were begging to play?

All I can think of is Crysis because graphics and Mincraft but that always had a good chance to come to consoles.

That has been Microsoft's plan for years but it really hasn't worked out for them. Windows 10 for games is not great and the Xbox is playing catch up.

Also when are the garbage shitpost image responses for threads like this gonna subside? Some of y'all should create better synapses to your fingers than marking this as a troll thread and hitting New Reply.

Didn't realize you spoke for all console players, but ok.

That's measuring by percentage of web access. All you've really proven is the increasing share of mobile devices and tablets.

In terms of actual game access on PC, Windows still has a dominant share.
I'm just saying. Yes the majority of core PC gamers are windows users and will likely continue to be, Windows as a platform is becoming less and less relevant for most people at a rapid pace. Making the entire console be nothing but a windows 10 machine doesn't change the stats quo at all. It will just keep things the same. Won't let them 'rule gaming'.
