Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Well, we can immediately discount the Rare game and the Lionhead game, so that's two new IPs, both of which will probably be Kinect-driven.
Why? I wouldn't be surprised if some of MS' Kinect titles are weirder and more creative than their "core" titles.

I would be amazingly surprised by that - even putting aside that even if the game were "creative", it'd likely control like a steaming pile of Rhino shit.

That said, Microsoft is pretty uncreative across the board... but at least the uncreative games they were making before controlled like dreams, for the most part.

And way back in the day, they were trying to invest in new things and court developers willing to make interesting exclusives.

You honestly believe the accuracy of Kinect won't improve with the second version?

Kinect for Windows is proof of the potential of the FIRST version with some grunt and freedom behind it.

Don't overdo it.

Doesn't matter. It will still require a controller to be able to play the games we want to play. So it'll be a booster item at best, one that sucks up resources to give gameplay gimmicks like the occasional waggling of the arm that no one cares about. It'll always be destined to remain a casual gamer item only.

Again with people not understanding what is wrong with Kinect. Yes, current Kinect has a few accuracy issues and lag problems - that just compounds the shit pile on top of steaming diarrhea mountain.

The problem with Kinect is that it's utterly useless for 99.9% of all genres, and is inherently inferior as a method of control (no tactile feedback; less efficient; less reliable).

This will never be fixed no matter how many revisions of Kinect we get.

Kinect as a motion controller device is horrible for games, even if it was perfect, and I see basically no promise in it at all, however, the voice control stuff, that could produce really incredible results, if it was up to scratch.

Just playing with that Google bot AI thing is pretty impressive, if someone throws many millions in R&D over a long period, someone is going to nail dynamic conversation with an AI, MS at least have the footing in place to chase that.

yeah but can't the voice stuff just be integrated into a headset? Why waste the moolah for a few quirky side show parlor trick games?

I'm up for voice control boosting some games but wasn't it proven they don't need kinect to do that? They could use a headset for it. Regardless I can see the benefit in a game like mass effect to be able to issue squad commands instead of manually pausing and then searching for the right power to click on.

Again with people having this weird obsession with thinking MS is replacing the controller with Kinect.

Remove that assumption from your thinking and the anger should dissipate.

I don't know, viva pinata was pretty creative, same goes for nuts and bolts.

given some freedom, rare still have that ability to develop creative games. if they are any good or not or if they are accepted by the gaming community is another matter.

Well I'll have to take your word for it... I thought Viva Pinata was complete trash and Nuts and Bolts, well, I could not appreciate the minutia of building lame vehicles to overcome lame obstacles without challenge...

...but those are certainly at least 'creative'.

It's not about them replacing controllers. They don't have enough power to do that anyway.

It's about them replacing the RESOURCES to make games that don't control like garbage. Ever since Kinect, the 360 has simply become worse and worse for exclusive titles. And the reason that is is because Microsoft shifted their focus and funding to shit that either benefited Kinect or likely the next Xbox (and who knows how gimmicky those games will be).

What's the point of having a great controller if your money is going toward games that mostly utilize the shitty controller? if it's not that, it's just Microsoft obsessively returning to three core franchises over and over again. It's like a nightmarish treadmill.

But they're still allocating resources to make such games. Games that are fundamentally trash, so unless they find a way to smartly use Kinect, it's gonna be more of the same.

A fair point, I would say I forgot they removed the CPU stuff from the Kinect unit, which is true, but as I was really talking about Kinect 2, and I have no idea what's in there, it'd be a pretty weak justification.

No headset is better than a headset, but yeah, it's no different.

They are all shoo-
Microsoft Studios is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Design Director with proven creative and leadership ability to work with external developers on Microsoft’s core titles, including shooters, RPGs, action/adventure, etc.
Oh, oh.

People are so dense thinking MS will be bringing out nothing but kinect. It baffles me how they still don't get MS's strategy over the last generation, and why over the next 3-4 years Kinect is not going to be the center of attention.

2010 onwards they didn't need to snare the core anymore. So they didn't. They focused on Kinect something they were pushing hard to get the casuals with.

2013, they do need the core, so they'll cater to them. Don't be so stupid as to think MS is stupid enough to think they can get by on Fable, Gears, Halo and Forza with a new generation.

What is action/adventure anymore? Uncharted is action/adventure but Gears is a shooter? It seems a super thin line this generation. Or I guess it could mean like the Heavy Rain stuff.

Gears has way more shooting as the majority of its gameplay, Uncharted has shooting but its the action sequences that make up the majority. Maybe that is how they split it.

I really hope MS has their answer to Uncharted in the pipeline.

I think next generation you will see more Uncharted-like games from first and third parties.

I guess Ryse will be action adventure? I am really thinking a lot of this game lately and the possibilities - I hope it's good.

I thought Viva Pinata was complete trash

Wasn't that Gears of War?

I certainly remember thinking that Uncharted was just GOW in the jungle when I first played it.

In all seriousness though, I think that the first next gen titles will be very much like Uncharted. i.e. how can we make a game around techniques that allow us to max out the graphics.

He's playing Ninja Gaiden 2 there, Xbot.

And? Actually no he was acting in a TV show there, I'm very much interested in the PS4 but now that people are labeling me a Xbot I better stick to it.

Viva Pinata was a great game whether or not you were into it doesn't make it trash. I would've said the same thing if he called Little Big Planet complete trash.

I think someone needs to take the wow battle arena and make a game out of that. 4 vs 4 16 vs 16 would be pretty cool. Not to get to far off topic but is there anything like that now that isn't an mmo? Give you some real progression with talent trees. I think the COD formula next gen needs to change maybe we don't need guns anymore for it to be a fun shooter game.

Hopefully the game will be more than a showcase Kinect 2.0 title with shiny graphics, to be honest I don't have high hopes for this mainly because Crytek hasn't made anything other than FPS games so expecting a first person brawler Kinect game is the most possible scenario IMO.

I'm more curious to see what Ruffian & Lionhead are working on to be honest.

Exactly, MS will have exusives whether they are in house or only published similar to Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 on WiiU. At the start of 360 we had a ton of exclusives more so than PS3 Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Viva Piñata, Banjo Nuts and Bolts, Mass Effect, Gears, Eternal Sonata, Crackdown, Kameo

MS will concentrate on getting hardcore early on then switch to appealing to casuals in the later half of the generation. Of course I would still prefer sticking with Sony as they would offer exclusives throughout the generation, plus I personally prefer their 1st party studios and sometimes exclusive 3rd party games get ported later on anyway such as Bioshock and Mass Effect.

MS never really copy the obvious games so I don't think they will try and copy UC. Plus Gears did more for them then any UC clone ever could.

If you want to guess what MS will do next gen look at some really obscure title and they'll no doubt make it massive.

Considering your antics in the Windows 8 threads, you've already tarnished your account with "Microsoft fanboy", hence we presume you're an Xbox fanboy.

Oh I'm sorry I didn't needlessly hate along with everyone else. Assumption is probably the worse thing anyone can do at anytime. I'm a PC gamer that uses Windows 8(and doesn't think it's a useless pile of crap set on destroying gaming), I own a Xbox 360 but due to financial issues I don't own a PS3 and interested in buying either the new PS4 or Xbox 720.

Thanks for presuming and labeling how mature of you.

I'm personally critical of all sides and definitely have some bones to pick with Microsoft on both Windows and Xbox.

He's clearly trying to play Kinectimals or Dance Central with a controller, only to be left disappointed like Amir0x.

He prefers playing Kinect in 3D:

With too many copy-cats the freshness wears fast and eventually this type of game will be remembered differently. Look at all the Tomb Raider bashing + eventual comments such as:

"Linear cinematic handholding duck and cover shooter with terrible online. But at least the graphics are good!"
