Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Well one thing is for sure, quantity of first party exclusives next-gen won't be an issue for either consoles.

What about Plaform NEXT studios? I remember reading that they were to be kinect focused but for all we know they might end up being another Black Tusk.

Another benefit of partnering with Epic and Crytek is that it would ensure that their respective engine will be optimized for use on it. This could prove a really smart decision giving the way Unreal dominated multiplatform development this gen.

And Rare hiring gets more bizarre!

Another Codie:

FPS/Action guy?:

Post-Scott Henson era may have some potential after all. It seems like Microsoft's racer and FPS portfolio is quite full, so I'm curious to see what type of games they make next.

Excite.

Platform Next was Kudo's studio wasn't it? Forgot all about them.

No I thought that was the studio behind Kinect Adventures, Good Science Studio...

@TheOddOne: almost sounds as though Rare won't produce original, and their legacy IP - but become a helper studio :(

Well that might be because in this very case they might be making pgr5 with Lucid as the rumor goes thus they will need some staff to interface with an external developer.

"We just want MS to start pumping out new IPs!!"

*GAF discovers MS working on 4 new IPs*

"LOOOLLL probably more Kinect bullshit"

Never change GAF.

Urgh sounds terrible that won't make Rare relevant again ... I will never get Banjo-Threeie :(

Don't they have 3rd party studios for that? I would presume that contracting would be cheaper than keeping Rare just as a backup studio.
This was tucked under the Londen Lift studio news:
Lift London will act as an incubator studio of sorts. It has already partnered with indie developer Dlala Studios, which is hard at work creating a new IP in the Lift London office, itself situated in the Soho Productions building. The set-up is similar to Sony Santa Monica, which has worked with the likes of thatgamecompany to build PlayStation exclusive games.
Same principle could be applied to Rare. Either Rare starts off as being a helper studio and stay that way or they are the go-to helper studio and also create their own franchises. Either way, Rare's resources are not wasting doing nothing. Rare is already known to be their tech hub, this would be a logical evolution.

Or they could green light Banjo-Threeie, Viva Pinata 3, Killer Instinct 3, Perfect Dark and Kameo 2, as well as new IP ...

A helper studio or incubation studio feels like even further demotion...

Who would make all those games? Those IP's are as alien to Rare as to any other studio because the only thing Rare has in common with the studio that created those IP's is the company name. Why would any Rare (from back in the day) employee that worked on great games stay at Microsoft for almost a decade without working on an exciting game project? I strongly beleive that very little developers from past Rare work at present Rare.

If Rare isn't making one of those new IPs, it makes the whole picture of the studio even sadder.
Redmond and Vancouver departments seems to be more "Focused". Their Europe department is just a mystery, Phil Harrison has just started so we might not see big changes soon.

They are exciting though :(. Plus it would vary up MS lineup no end, for the core gamer brilliantly.

It works for Sony Santa Monica, why not Rare?

Imagine a Conker game made by Twisted Pixel! The Maw was essentially a throwback 3D platformer from the N64 days.

Also I bet Rare has at least one major project in production by themselves.

Cautiously eager to see these IP, it's a tantalising thought that they could live up to Crackdown, Mass Effect or Viva Piñata. On the other hand, I'm not going to rule out an absolute disaster from incompetent Microsoft.

Eh it needs British humour for Conker to work thoug.

Plus Sony Santa Monica outside of thatgamecompany and their own IP(God of War) has their been other succesful projects collab projects on retail games?

So i'm wondering what the likelihood that any of these games are going to be launch window. Or if any of them will be at least far enough in dev time that they can show something of them at E3 this year.

I think they'll show a fair amount of them at E3 and subsequent manifestations. Some will probably be ready for the launch. I expect a ratio of one new IP to two established franchises at launch, and then the opposite in the first year.

I'd imagine they'll show a lot of them at E3, regardless of their state. If they want people to buy the console, they need to know there are a lot of games in development. Hopefully that doesn't result in mostly CG trailers.

As for launch, I imagine there'll be at least two first party games. Probably a racer and a shooter.

I think they will have 3 big launch games.
Ryse, something we don't expect, and FM5. I would not count Alan Wake 2 to be ready for launch, but I am gladly wrong.

I'd forgotten about Ryse, could be interesting now its been reworked, hopefully into something that looks... much better.

Not expecting FM5 though, if the rumours are true about a new PGR then I would expect it to be that plus the Black Tusk new IP.

Hoping for Alan Wake 2 as well but can definitely see that being "launch period" and not day 1.

Please, stop, just stop, you're embarrassing yourself.

By making a reasonable post?

Xbox, Windows, Skype, Azure, SkyDrive, Hyper-V, Office, .Net, Visual, DirectX, Expression Blend, Lync, Mediaroom, Office 365, MSDN, SharePoint, SQL, PixelSense, Surface, Intune, etc.

Surely these are all incompetent products and services brought to you by the incompetent Microsoft?

At least 5. Not counting Alan Wake 2, which, as you said, probably won't be done:(

At least 7 umm I mean 5 big budget titles? I guess you're including in this prediction multiplatform games as well...because 5 exclusive games sounds too good to be true. :)

Rares game should be there. I'm expecting a racer, plus an action game. I'd say AW 2 could be at launch, it's been in development since 2010.

Nope I am not. Just what I think.

Dreams shattered! :P

Hopefully there's more than the 3 games that derFeef mentioned but I doubt it, to be honest all I need is AW2 to make me get the system day one...but yeah we need more game leaks, enough with the stupid leaks about the specs.

Thank god we still have TheOddOne and we still have something to talk about in this thread. :(

Oh man...maybe I'm more hyped than I should but I believe that AW2 will be glorious.

fm5 wont be at launch. pgr5 will.

FM5 won't happen, and rumours are pointing to it being targeted for 2014. If anything, it will be PGR5, after all that heavy hinting in the other thread.

Hey look, our favorite word: incubation!
Are you a programming discipline lead that is ready to drive engineering across more of the game?
Are you a technical director and you feel like you are being underutilized?
Do you like being on the cutting edge with a focus on new IP or new platform features? Do you realize the importance of working across all groups to accomplish something extraordinary?

MS Studio Publishing is not your typical industry publishing organization. We have great partners. They can create great games. Our development leads are about how to push the boundaries even further. Our leads help our partners realize the challenges ahead of them and help our internal staff realize how they can be more effective partners.

As a development lead, you would be associated with one of our AAA titles. You would also lead and program incubation projects with bright in-house developers. We have access to Microsoft Research and Platform team to help us go after those big features.
The developers in MS Studio Publishing focuses on development scenarios that could truly change a genre and make the xbox’s ecosystem shine!
