Microsoft making at least four new IPs

Chalk this up to wild speculation, but this might interest some people.

Recently Rare hired this guy, he works as environment artist for them now. Usually to get hired an artist has to do a "art test" in a given time by the company.

In his portfolio, he posted a test:

Notice:

A) "Art Test for an AAA games company"
B) He has not worked for any large company, he just finished school.
C) Could be for a freelance job, but he has noted where he has done it (like art test for Splash Damage)

Jeez, I'm just starting out with 3D stuff for games and looking at his work makes me depressed, talented guy, not suprised he has been picked up!

New IP!?

Where can I buy this purse?

Edit: Shirt? LOL

am I missing something? nobody has mentioned that all these files are named Crytek...
Usually to get hired they let you use industry standard tools, i.e. UnrealEd, Crytek, and the rest. It's more to see if you grasp enough knowledge to make something out of those tools. If you can produce something worthwhile, it shows you know how to work with the tools given.

the more likely reason to me would be the simplest: the art was made for Crytek. They are a AAA games company, after all. Plus, he lists the tools that he used: Maya, Photoshop, UDK, Crazybump, ZBrush, xnormal

Yeah, that makes more sense.

Codemasters has insane turnover and is pretty infamous for crummy quality of life—I dunno if I would quite read into employees leaving there as an indication of something.

There was concept art posted in another Rare thread about a year ago and it had a bit of a Motorstorm vibe to it. I'm on my phone so I can't dig it up...
