Microsoft Taunts Sony: 'Bring it On'

Peter Moore said:
Having videos, having characters in videos... The fact that they feel the need to have Snake tell you that it's powerful, that could be seen as a sign of worry, or weakness, potentially," Moore concluded.

Petey's just pissed they don't have Halo @ launch to save their ass. I guaruntee that if they did Master Cheif would be in every single demo.

just like Sony must be doing with PS3 because none of the official PS3 shots showed the vents.

Hey Marc can you find any pictures of the vents the PS2 has/had? Obviously I'm at work so I can't compare... but that looks like a shitload more # of vents(which it should be).

I wonder what the PSthree will look like.

The PS3 is going to wipe the floor with the 360. Who can seriously think otherwise? I'll buy a 360, sure, but if I had to choose between the two, it's the PS3.

..... but the public wants new games now. If the next door neighbour has a xbox360, then so will the kids who come over there. It will be like dreamcast but now with full marketing and attention by press. the first new next-generation console. All the kids want that!
If sales are adequate then xbox360 will possibly be the next number one console and sony will be too late.

That pic wasn't availble during E3 when the discussion was taking place. I had to use pics my buddy took at E3 to show where the vents were.

Shog how does that change what you said? It's been a wee bit o time since E3... so making the no vents comment is still ...dumb. You mean to tell me that competitors don't look at each others products/news when it pertains directly to their own products? You mean Allard hasn't seen a PS3 since E3?

That's crazy.

That pic was released with all the others following the Sony E3 press conference.

The comment is pretty dumb, cause we all knew it had vents since E3. I'm just saying that the sentiment that the design is gonna have to go through a alot of redesign is true.

But I'm curious to know why you say that... looking at the "top" photo you can see that vents encompass almost the entire side of the unit.

Someone said recently that sonycowboy is like the tabloid GAF, and I would have to say - I agree.

I take almost all thread titles directly from the articles I link to.

The UK sites are notorious for their sensationalism (gameindustry.biz & CVG), but this is a next-generation article, which has joined in.

I could include the overly inflammatory Kotaku and Joystick commentary blogs, but I usually stay away from that.

But, in many cases, it is what was said, and this "console war" is getting a bit snippy on many fronts.

PS3 Is indeed ugly as hell. ugliest console besides Jaguar imo. Looks cheap as hell. Sony consoles always are ugly to me, but when you get them home they look a lot better.

It was this same "taunting" marketing agenda that helped cement Genesis and PlayStation as well in America. What would brainless ad execs and faceless "neo-gaming" corporations do without Tom Kalinske to show the way?

That handle always came in handy when moving the GC around, hence the superior design.
It's entirely useless. Just grab the damn thing where ever you want.

Anyways...

I don't see how Sony should be worried. They were the kings last time (PS2), and they will probably be again if I look at the PS3. The only thing that can really can wrong now, IMO, is exploding development and the price of the PS3.

The Xbox360 was designed to represent an "inhale", right? But when you inhale, doesn't your chest inflate, very much like that of the PS3 design?

Oh yes. The PS3 is so powerful, even the design shows it! The inhale by an athlete before a burst of power!

I guess that settles it then. PS3 = filled to bursting with power. Xbox360 = deflated.

You guys will latch on to anything to bitch about. This is such a non-story.

"MS says bring it on!"

"How dare they test Sony!"

So who here actually believes Sony isnt concerned with MS?

Lets just say that Sony knows the 360 has vents. They're competition for Sony so ofcourse they're going going to take them seriously. But if you listen to this guy you'd think Sony can't get any sleep after X05. Sony's shown the PS3 2 times so far, at E3 and TGS and both times they did the job they needed to. I don't think the same can be said about the 360.

That photo is using extreme foreshortening. Also some of the holes are just dummy holes for design sake.

If you saw it in person like I did, then you'll also say that it doesn't have enough vents for the heat dissipation of such a system (unless it's gonna be a loud fucking bitch, or expensive exotic cooling solution).

Well if I'm lucky maybe they'll have it at SCEA's CES booth this January....

Cheap is one thing you can't say about PS3 when you see it in real life, trust me on that. Like it's design or not, it's easily the most expensive looking console of the three.

They can easily put some more vents on the flat bottom side so that they serve the purpose when the console sits vertically, and put another vent grille on the other side (where the HDD is inserted) so that it's used when the console sits horizontally.

Raise the bar?

I thought that was exactly what was causing problems for Sony. They are trying to raise the bar beyond the reach of most companies (budget requirements == too high).

I think this will end up being quite a battle, though. MS is starting to come on strong.

I would like each company to succeed, however. I'll be going for all three systems anyways, so I'd like each one to receive as much support as possible.

True. MS isn't tooting their horn and jabbing at Sony to get reactions from us... it's to get Sony to play their game. They want Sony to compete on their level. And by level I mean consumer pricing, manufacturing, publishing deals, online gaming, etc. They want to stress Sony's pocketbook.

Allard: I hope that Sony’s nervous right now, honestly, because the launch lineup looks great. They’ve shown two really good movies and a picture of a console that doesn’t have any ventilation holes in the cabinet.
Wow another FUD by MS...
less ventilation holes = design win.
A side of XB360 is all covered with holes. 3 fans will collect dusts pretty quickly and will malfunction.

Well, yeah, but you choose to post the threads. That's my point. I don't care, it's just an observation of your posting habits is all ;)

sony is teh controversy!

Not if it starts from the kind of faulty assumptions that Allard made here and you've been known for with the PS3 thus far.

They can test Sony all they want. Some of us would just appreciate higher quality "testing" than what Allard or Moore seem capable of providing. :P

Likewise, from Sony's end I always wish they'd get somebody to stop Kaz Hirai from making all his wooden jabs at the competition and to actually start providing real answers to interview questions.

If I had my way at either company, I'd demote both Allard and Hirai to less public positions. They don't do their parent companies any credit.

Alll you need to do is look at the PS3 showing to see that no one is going to dictate what Sony does. They've always played by their rules. From pricing to showings. Just look at the way they price drop compared to competitors.

Uhh, other than online gaming, those are all straight from Sony's playbook. Which goes to show that Microsoft acknowledge's the Sony business model. But, for you, we'll call it Microsoft's new game.

...except by many accounts especially in terms of manufacturing many folks think Sony already has spent more....

are you really that far up sony's ass?? of course they have to be aware of their competitors. They can't just ignore the competition and do their own thing. No business can do that.

Ohh I am sure they make their decisions based on what the competition does, you know they have several different plans for different situations. Dont you agree?

I'm saying they're not going to let MS dictate their business model which is what jedi was trying to say MS wants to do. That's not how Sony has ever worked.

If Sony did the job they "needed" to do, then the 360 would not have the developer support they have, and many would not be looking forward to the 360. Sony has not caused large numbers of people to not buy a 360. Again, I contend Sony's biggest challenge is to keep MS from gaining any marketshare. As it stands now, Sony is simply not capable of doing this.
