Microsoft Was Both Xbox and PlayStation’s Top Q3 FY2025 Publisher by Pre-Orders and Pre-Installs

The company has fully transitioned into being a multiplatorm publisher, having released several major first-party Xbox titles for PlayStation and Nintendo Switch over the last year (the former in particular)- and is now reaping the benefits.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed (via Tom Warren on Twitter) in the company's recent quarterly fiscal briefing that for Q3 of fiscal year 2024-25, which ran from January to the end of March, Xbox was the "top publisher" by pre-orders and pre-installs not only on the Xbox Store, but also the PlayStation Store. Having lined up the likes of Age of Mythology: Retold, Forza Horizon 5, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle for the PS5 in the early months of 2025, that doesn't come as a huge surprise.

I think Sony even forgot to publish on their own console for this year to be honest. Doors wide open for getting those money bags 🤷‍♂️

Yes, that's what happends when you buy two of the biggest publishers in the gaming industry, you might be become the biggest publisher.

Xbox Cloud gaming seems "OK" for me, not sure it's 4K but there is a very weird discrepancy between playing on Edge (great!) and the Windows Xbox app (shit!) But still not a patch on the PS5 offering.

Good news for the MS bottom line. Good games, but not good enough to move hardware sales.
MS is jacking up the price of consoles in the US unless I've just read a late April fools joke. Hardware sales are over for them. Probably forever if XSX pricing is any indication. Imagine what they would charge for a steambox made by the surface team....

This means literally nothing…Meanwhile Monster Hunter Wilds sold more in a few days than any of those MS games…So it says nothing about the quality of those games and only that they were new and that there was many of them released close together with little competition…

How would Microsoft know preorder and preinstall numbers for other publishers on PlayStation?

People acting like this is an achievement are hilarious.
Its quite easy to become the top publisher when you spunk 70 billion dollars on fucking ActiBlizz.

Well, after spending so much money between buying publishers and lobists, and the needs to publish those related games on a (currently) rival platform... It's almost expected i might say... it's windows phone/mobile all over again

I just knew that this will be the new propaganda from now on.

Look at it this way, it's better to be able sell...something than not being able to sell at all (to your own fanbase to boot since there its all about Gamepass)

It's sad how desperate the fanboys are for any kind of "win". The war will never end for these people even though it's over and MS raised the white flag.

Sony doesn't care. MS is not a competitor anymore. They are a partner just like EA, SE, Ubisoft, etc. They take their 30% from any game sold on their platform.

Microsoft selling so great on Sony they should make their own platform and gain on that.

Everyone knows that platforms with great exclusives sells well.

Pouring money into keeping your plastic box alive versus making untold riches on the competition's.

To some, one of the most difficult decisions to make. For Nutella, it was Tuesday.
