The Outer Worlds 2 price reduces to $70, pre-orders reimbursed, Microsoft commits to $70 pricing for holiday games

It was certainly a stupid decision to hike prices up for this game in particular.

They could've gotten away with it with COD, probably. This? Not a chance.

How the hell do decisions get made at Xbox?
I have no idea, but I think they're finding that out pretty quickly. At least I'd hope so.

When they did the Xbox Series S and X thing it felt like they were trying to give their customers choices, which felt pretty consumer friendly honestly. Then the whole Game Pass thing felt pretty consumer friendly as well (pricing-wise). While I don't care to own an Xbox, or care to, I thought it was kind of cool. But then you decide to charge that much for games? It's time to slow down, lmao.

Aside from "standard inflation" AAA games are offering nothing more because of the price. So, in most cases, it feels completely unnecessary. Especially when you continue to have indies and AA titles that are cheaper and contain more content, run better, look better, etc.

Not shocked. That direct presentation tried (and failed) to position this game as a bigger deal than it really is. All the $80 price tag did is make matters more comical.

Gamepass and not actual sales, but #88 in wishlist on steam, that's pretty dire. Reviews will have to hit hard to change the perspectives

Gamepass titles such as :
Fable with non existent gameplay is #38

Grounded 2 from same studio #60.

Even more obscure new franchise clockwork revolution is #75.

Outside gamepass,
Vampire masquerade bloodlines 2 even with development hell is #15

They have to get really shockingly positive reviews to change things around on steam. I don't expect suddenly to surpass games that are not on gamepass but even amongst gamepass peers it is quite low.
Wow that really puts it in perspective.

I had low expectations for this game but not this low. The first game was somewhat successful and even got a remaster so I figured it would at least get some interest from fans of the first one. Guess they all found it as mediocre and forgettable as I did.
Still never quite understood the praise the game got. I thought it was fine, but I never knew anyone IRL that loved it, and the "praise" felt like it was few and far between from what I gathered. I was pretty surprised when they talked about the first game's sales and then announced the sequel.
I guess it was Modern Audiences entertainment slop before most people got sick of that crap.

It had that "poor man's Fallout" kitschy retro-futurism (at a time when Fallout was still huge in nerd culture), the heavy-handed "capitalism and rich people = bad" messaging, Ashly Burch's self-insert asexual lesbian Mary Sue, snarky cynical dialog, try-hard Idiocracy ripoff humor, etc etc.

It's like if you let Reddit design a video game.

They have no idea wtf they're doing. The state of all their games isn't a surprise. If your goal was to push everyone to gp by increasing prices of games to a ridiculous amount, you have to stick to it, you can't just abandon ship before the first game is even released. People that take these decisions are so fucking stupid that MS might as well put Chatgpt in charge of the Xbox division.
Chatgpt is not interested

"If we're looking at it from a more skeptical angle, saving the Xbox gaming division might be a tough sell. Their strategy seems a little scattered at times, especially when it comes to maintaining a clear identity. Xbox used to be all about the hardware, but now, with Game Pass and their cloud gaming focus, it almost feels like they're trying to play too many roles. The constant pivoting—one minute it's about powerful consoles, the next it's all about services—could confuse even loyal fans.

Plus, the exclusives have always been a sore spot. Sure, they've made some moves with studios like Bethesda, but it's not enough to challenge Sony's powerhouse exclusives. And let's not forget the inconsistent approach to innovation in their gaming lineup—sometimes it feels like they're following trends rather than setting them.

Honestly, it might be better to let it evolve or focus on becoming a more niche player, because fighting the PlayStation juggernaut at this point just seems like an uphill battle. Wouldn't be the worst thing for them to step back and reassess the entire strategy."

Quality is all that matters to me. I'll pay more for a great game regardless of size. I didn't dig Exp33 as much as some but I don't think anyone would have batted an eye lid at a regular $60 price for that game. I bet the inevitable sequel doesn't come in at a budget price.
Im not saying quality doesnt matter to me. I'm saying it doesnt really matter for the price. Games aren't priced based on quality. Risk of rain 2 is one of my favorite games ever, but i wouldn't pay 80$ for it. Or even 60$.

Definitely had Great Value Fallout vibes, but without all the good... well... everything. Even the combat felt pretty lackluster. I just didn't get it.

The first game was solid, but it wasn't a world breaking gangbuster. I loved it when it came out, but I've had no desire to go back to playing it since. It had no staying power for me.

Hyping this up to that level was a bit excessive.

Good shit! I could see $80 for halo or gears, but no this lol.

If ps5 version pro doesn't give me motion sickness like the first game im all in.

Ill have to test gamepass version and ask on here if they allow 90 FOV and no head bob. I wanted to play the first but the nausea was unreal.

I doubt preorders are going to suddenly pick up for TOW2 even after this announcement but at least we know someone at MS is panicking

Sales of various MS owned titles have been disastrous almost across the board for years now. Oblivion Remastered is likely to be the only title in the last 5 years of the buying the industry initiative that actually sold at or exceeded expectations

Now they need to lower the ridiculous prices of their Series consoles. They were very quick to raise them to absurd levels and have not lowered them yet. Meanwhile PS5 remains at the same price point it was. MS are greedy cunts and used the 'Global Markets' shite to justify their actions. How anyone can support them anymore is beyond me. It's ashamed because they were quite compelling during the 360 generation with all the great games they had both first and third party……then Phil the Fraud Spencer took over and has run them into the ground. Unreal how with all the studios they acquired and IP they have they still manage to cancel and ruin all the games they had in development that were much needed like Perfect Dark and Everwild among others. I won't be surprised to see them cancel Fable and State of Decay 3 due to Phil and Matt Booty and their continued incompetence.

Baemono Baemono no chance CoD is $70.

If they count CoD as part of the holiday release period, it's also going to be $70.

"We're focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions," an Xbox spokesperson explained in a statement to Windows Central.

"We realised we're not Nintendo after seeing pre-order numbers, so we reduced the price, a career moment for us".
We don't know if it'll work for Nintendo either. The only comparison is MKW that launched with the console with the only option to consumers were buy the game with the console for $50 or separately for $80.

Eh, I got Donkey Kong for 54,90€ full game on the cartridge while topping 91 on Metacritc, it's a bit a different story than the full digital Outer Worlds 2 at 80€/$ and 82 max on Metacritic
Same I only paid 49.99 for MK world before tax. People keep telling me how ripped off I got but the bundle really is a good deal.

It isn't a fair comparison. MK World is a system seller than is the first real new MK in a looooong time. It has a bundle and is discounted with the bundle. Almost anyone with patience should be able to score the game at 50 bucks. I bought it thru an email invite from Nintendo long after launch.

OW2 isn't going to get bundled or a launch discount or anything and it is on gamepass so these are apples to oranges comparisons.

Why would you pre-order when you can "buy" it for 12 bucks on Game Pass, finish it within 4 weeks and cancel subscription?

Make it for 40 and I'll buy it to keep it without a subscription.

A price cut before release? Oh boy, this game's gonna crater hard. It doesn't look AAA by any stretch of the imagination, so I have no idea why it's being positioned as a big AAA with a price tag to match. Game should've been USD$50.00 at most.
