The Outer Worlds 2 price reduces to $70, pre-orders reimbursed, Microsoft commits to $70 pricing for holiday games

If it where in like the same week everyone started to complain about the pricing I would have take this as an honest move... but this clearly is a response to the low pre-orders / wishlists. The first one was mid AF, and after Avowed I dont think Obsidian can deliver... just drop it to 45.

It was certainly a stupid decision to hike prices up for this game in particular.

They could've gotten away with it with COD, probably. This? Not a chance.

How the hell do decisions get made at Xbox?
You can actually get away with high prices for games. Just comes down to how much pull a company thinks they got.

Factorio has never been dumped at insane low prices. In fact, the price of the game has gone up I think. There's many weird strategy games I sift through on Steam. These odd games you'd think would be $10. But they maintain it at around $40. And when it goes on sale, it's maybe modestly 30% off, and not 75%. Theire thinking is they got a niche game and if any hardcore gamer wants it, take it or leave it.

I guess MS originally thought OW2 is that kind of game with pricing power. It definitely isnt that kind of game. Or they thought if Mario can do it starting a trend, let's jump on the train too.

Not a smart move.

Think its more that they were hoping Sony would follow suit, and instead they were just left with their ass hanging out.

I'd pay $80 day 1 if Outer Worlds 1 was an amazing game that left me wanting more.

I would need to hear OW2 is much improved from a variety of non-shill sources before hesitantly considering getting it on sale after having played the first game though.

I am of the opinion that you should price the MSRP as low as possible and keep your discounting stable with no massive drops until you have a sequel coming out.

This Ubisoft thing where companies price exorbitantly high MSRPs and then discount by %60 within a year is ridiculous and it's training consumers in a very bad way imo.

I have no idea why it's being positioned as a big AAA
My theory is they make it expensive to buy so you're more inclined to subscribe to Game Pass and either stick to it because MS persuades you with their catalogue or you simply forget to cancel.

Avowed is also priced for 70EUR, isn't a GotY contender with +90 scoring, is rarely on discount (just 3 times this year) and even then the discount itself wasn't good (33% tops).

I simply don't believe that they want to sell games, they want to sell Game Pass and need to give an incentive.

Hellblade 2 also rarely gets a discount as well despite absolutely needing one. Not to mention that they haven't even spread Steam keys around the key sites like Fanatical, it's all Xbox codes for some reason.

I wouldn't even buy it for 49.99. And I don't even have an Xbox-hating horse in this race as opposed to the usual suspects in here.

Why would you pre-order when you can "buy" it for 12 bucks on Game Pass, finish it within 4 weeks and cancel subscription?

Make it for 40 and I'll buy it to keep it without a subscription.
No, you need to do it Ass of Can Whooping Ass of Can Whooping way! Finish the game in 3 weeks, cancel the sub and get full refund for the month!

You get the money back and Phil can count your contribution as a GamePass sub to his report for Satya! Winning! 🏆
