This is crazy logic.
Microsoft and AMD, both players in console manufacturing for decades know how many units of hardware are sold. They're not going to walk into negotiations without understanding what is and isn't reasonable to expect and what the expected cost will be.
Microsoft aren't going to approach AMD and ask them to make custom silicon when they know that the projected sales for any device in this class would have to be more than double the market leader as a guarantee to make it worthwhile. It wouldn't be a surprise to them to know that AMD have both minimum orders and what sort of size those orders might be.
Hell, id risk the red ring if it means they pull off a 360. I was never interested in the Xbox, but the 360 was so good I had to buy it. Kicking Sonys ass back into shape was the added benefit.
Had two replacements myself. Consumer rights for electronics is pretty good in the UK. MS asked no questions and swiftly replaced both. The second unit was also over two years out of warranty when it failed. That was replaced with the newer fixed model and two free controllers. I'm guessing for the inconvenience. At least back then, MS was willing to stand behind their customers and support their product. It's the opposite of what you're seeing now.
I had 3 different RRODs. Each time, MS replaced the console for free, shipping included. Granted, they gave me another console that crapped out in 6 months, lol, but they were willing to eat billions in costs, just to try to make up for their mistakes. That was a very different MS/Xbox.
I think the supply-chain drying up is the strongest clue as to what's happening behind the scenes. Rumors/Speculation are one thing, especially in an internet culture that is actively hostile to xbox, but the supply chain stuff with walmart/costco/sams is very telling of what's happening behind the scenes.
Exactly. Gullible people here still believing PR statements.I mean, what did you expect them to say...it's clear they are pulling back from consoles by the second half of this gen as soon as natella realized game pass didn't deliver. I wish it wasn't so, and they pulled off a 360, but after the $800 series X, it became clear they don't give a shit about sustaining the console hardware longterm. They are fleecing their diehard fanbase for all of their worth, so that as they pull out, they maximize returns and doubling the game pass price and the first day games wall basically told their fanbase more than empty words ever will.
Definitely possible - I have a hard time thinking they are pulling their existing retail presence, retailers are filling the gap w/ PS and Nintendo, and then are going to open it back up when a new Xbox comes out. That would pertain to this generation, though, right? Not next.
So you agree they are working on the next gen console but don't believe their PR statement that they are going to launch it?Exactly. Gullible people here still believing PR statements.
Seriously, what else could they have said? (assuming this is even true in the first place) that "yes, the rumors are true. We may cancel the next-gen consoles in the upcoming months."
And how would the people working on the next console feel about their jobs at that point?
No one would say anything until those "downsizing emails" are sent to employees.

That seems unlikely to me.
So you agree they are working on the next gen console but don't believe their PR statement that they are going to launch it?
Nintendo quitted from the high end home console market a while ago, they decided to stop failing to try compete directly againt Sony in this area.GAF pretends Nintendo doesn't exist except when complaining about how much their hardware and games cost
Also says the followingTheir most recent PR statement only said they are investing. Did they explicitly say previously that they were launching a new console?
Kinda, yeah.So you agree they are working on the next gen console but don't believe their PR statement that they are going to launch it?
Also says the following
"For more details, the community can revisit our agreement announcement with AMD."
Where they say
"At Xbox our vision is for you to play the games you want, with the people you want, anywhere you want," Bond says. "That's why we're investing in our next-generation hardware line up, across console, handheld, PC, cloud, and accessories."
Now I never take anything as 100% gospel but in my mind they addressed the issue enough considering S SneakersSO just said next gen hardware was up in the air and people like Timdog has acted like the world was ending

Oh its DOA and a fools errand for them to move forward with a next gen console imoKinda, yeah.
I mean, I believe it will most likely be launched, but do I "believe" their PR statement that they WILL launch it, no? I think they could still change their mind. Things are cascading fast, the market is changing before their eyes.
If they do launch it, I can't imagine it will sell well...that is mainly why I think they may decide to cancel it. It is starting to become undeniably clear it may be a waste of money to launch it and it doesn't align with their future vision.
Without a doubtIt also says "investing" there as well.
I would be inclined to agree with you if it were any other business we were discussing, but these guys are the masters of spin and obfuscation.
Its weird it's like you keep expecting a surface level rebranding type big announcement where they have everything laid out about consoles, xbox services, and the newer "xbox pc", but it never happens. Even more so because of the weird AMD SOC announcement, but it never happens.![]()
Yes. I have always maintained that I don't think a new Xbox console will come. I don't know about this; I just have this gut feeling. There may be an Xbox-stickered PC-type device, but I don't think it will be an Xbox One or Series type console. So you agree they are working on the next gen console but don't believe their PR statement that they are going to launch it?

We know MS's PR many times lied or has been specially sneaky with half thruts.Their most recent PR statement only said they are investing. Did they explicitly say previously that they were launching a new console?
Pretty much, it was supposed to tape-out in Q4.
Because AMD needs the commitment to justify their R&D
AFAIK the handheld was cancelled because AMD wanted a commitment of 10m+ units to justify making a dedicated SoC, but with Steam Deck only selling ~5 million units and ASUS ROG/Lenovo Legion only selling 1-2 million MS didn't want to take the risk.
Wait, i thought the last thing you got was just a shrug when asked.I know things change and I know there is a chance they pull out of next gen hardware race, just saying as of Friday night at least from Xbox point of view they were still all in
The Titan haz spoketh
Why would AMD demand 10m units when the most successful handheld, the Steamdeck, hasn't even hit 5m and other handhelds sell 1-2m?
Thats just an article about what Kepler said here I believeCorden vs Henderson
I think I know who's right
LOL
Bold predictionI may end up right or wrong.
People really shouldn't believe decade-long Sony shilling, ex-Respawn QA contracted, Pete Dodd-loving clout chasers in the future. He's like the Alex Jones of leakers. He gets one thing right, then fills in the rest of the details with absolute bullshit.Yeah....lots of folks overreacted to what SneakersSO said. That's why I was trying to highlight that he said next gen Xbox wasn't necessarily a "sure thing", not that it wasn't going to happen, even before Microsoft made their statement.

Wtf have you been rambling on about with pete dodd?People really shouldn't believe decade-long Sony shilling, ex-Respawn QA contracted, Pete Dodd-loving clout chasers in the future. They will.Their most recent PR statement only said they are investing. Did they explicitly say previously that they were launching a new console?
I'm glad you reminded me of the shareholders.Anyone who thinks Microsoft shareholders are going to approve the development of another (very) expensive Xbox thats just going to sit on store shelves needs their head examined. You think they're going to allow Xbox to flush billions more down the
toilet after the Activision deal? It's over.
As much as nintendo fans like to pretend that Nintendo is a real competitor in the traditional western home console market that values third party games like GTA6 or the next Witcher.GAF pretends Nintendo doesn't exist except when complaining about how much their hardware and games cost
