Miitomo |OT| A new way of COMMUnication

1) do you think they will add amiibo support?

2) does most smartphone have nfc reading?

(I own a decent samsung phone and only have two amiibos... and just spotted a very cheap amiibo on the loose... yet i dont know if i should)

Most phones do have NFC readers now, so it's possible. But Apple lock down the iPhone's so Nintendo wouldn't be able to use that one.

Just went through the Twitter list and followed all 120 people on there so far.

I figure some of my friends will get the Miitomo app if they're into Nintendo stuff, but it's nice to have GAF as an alternative. Thanks, everyone!

Also, I thought I pre-registered but I guess I...didn't? Maybe I was thinking of My Nintendo and not Miitomo. In any case, I'm preregistered now.

I just hope that Nintendo doesn't do something dumb like locking Miitomo only to the US and Canada stores in America when the app is released worldwide. I don't mind missing on the My Nintendo benefits, but country-locking stuff on mobile is so stupid, specially for F2P apps. Different currencies isn't even an excuse here, as at least the Chilean App Store uses US dollars.

The Xposed Module for Miitomo has been updated, and it finally works on my tablet with CM11:

Man all I had to go through just to try to play this legitimately.
I really don't want to buy another tablet just for this.

I was just about to post about this. Though I also feel there should be some serious outcry about deliberately forcing the game to crash on rooted deviced, to try and get Nintendo to change this restriction in later updates.

They don't do region free on console.
They're not going to let this to run on rooted devices.

Nintendo should have launched this in NA and Europe by now. Monday would have been a great time. I don't think they know how to create hype for what is supposed to be a major product launch.

Certainly seems like it. I think Nintendo uploaded what they called the Miitomo "launch trailer" to youtube last week or so. You'd think that would be an indicator of a sustained advertising campaign or at least a social media campaign leading up to launch. Instead it really has been silence and March is nearly over.

I have an email from Nintendo with the subject line

Last chance: preregister now for Miitomo, Nintendo's first smart device app!

could that indicate that today is the last chance with release tomorrow?

I don't really see how that's a missed opportunity though.
There's no point to it, there is no missed opportunity.

The amount of publicity an Apple event generates is massive.
The exposure and spread of information is hugely greater than a Nintendo Direct.
This was an opportunity to get word out to an audience many times bigger than their own.
An opportunity to communicate to audience for whom Nintendo is largely irrelevant.
They missed it.

I'm sure their current 'plan' of just dropping it on the world out of the blue with no communication or marketing will work just fine though.

For what it's worth I just asked the three people I'm sat with if they're looking forward to Miitomo.
None of them knew what it was or that Nintendo has an app coming.
Two of them know about the new iPad and iPhone unveiled at the event btw.

Did they announce an actual date before it went live in JP?

I ask because I know Apple don't give you a date when you submit your application to the app store, so they might not actually know when it's going live?

NCL tweeted on the 11th that it would be released on the 17th.

Would have spiced up an otherwise lackluster Apple event as well. Everyone would have benifited. Hell, even if they had a mini direct the same day as the Apple event people would be talking about it.

I don't get the Apple / Nintendo relationship. Should be cozier. They sure are similar enough. Maybe they're still frenemies since the iPhone basically stole al of the Wii customer base away from Big N.

Future update preview:

- The ability to send friend requests to friends of your friends.
- "Everybody Answers" events, where everybody answers the same featured question.
- An "Online Answers" feature, where you can view answers shared on Twitter.

This is such a silly thing to be upset about. Why would Apple give airtime at a major event to an app will be releasing on other platforms the sane day it releases on theirs?

Sometime before the end of March and what silence? Nintendo uploaded a trailer for the game a few days ago to their youtube channel, how much more vocal do you want them to be?
An actual date would be nice.

Although having experience with publishing Apps for iOS, they can be a little hard-assed on new Apps when it comes to reviews and approval. I've never been able to coordinate an update's release with related press due to the unpredictability of review times. I've had simple updates to an App go up in 48 hours and others have taken over a week.

Assuming the App Store works similarly to Google Play, the app is already live, just marked as unavailable everywhere but Japan. Nintendo should be able to flip a switch and make it available, since it's not a separate app for separate regions.

What is it you don't understand? It was Apple's event. I explained why it doesn't make sense for Apple to bring up Nintendo at that event. Maybe Nintendo would've liked that very much, maybe they did not consider that to be such a good idea, but ultimately what's in it for Apple? They have their own stuff to talk about, in what context do you go "oh, by the way, here's Nintendo with some non-exclusive app that is completely unrelated to everything else here today"?

The only way I could've seen that happening would be if Miitomo was exclusive to iOS. I think Apple would've thought that could be worth talking about. Ultimately, though, that would go against the goal of the app in the first place, as it would limit the possible player base.

Really though, this constant scrutinizing of Nintendo's decisions and every move and non-move is getting so dull. Everyone knows they make mistakes and it hurts them, but all these criticisms seem to come so naturally that at times we forget to stop just for a second and consider whether what we're saying is reasonable or not.

Japan is practically beta testing the game as far as we know. Nintendo may want to patch out as many bugs as possible before North America.

Right, like Japan is always "beta testing" a lot of the full games.too. Sometimes for months.

Okay so Nintendo is just a super asshole and depriving North America of Miitomo because they're feeling particularly dickish at the moment.

Is that the response you'd be prefer?

I would prefer not to read some lame excuse that it's not even the official reason for the late release. It is what it is, no need for softening it.

A beta is officially announced, no serious company beta test something on its users without announcing it.

"Missed opportunity."
That was literally all I said initially and now we're here with me being 'upset' and 'unreasonable.'
:lol

I agree it may have been implausible, but not impossible seeing as Apple have debuted non-exclusive apps before on bigger stages. But it didn't happen and despite (supposed) appearances I don't really care.

I just want to bribe you all with sweets and stack Platinum coins ^_^

Bringing this out tomorrow gives everybody a full 7 days of check-in bonuses. So that makes sense...
They have maintence scheduled for Monday though, it could just as likely be then...
