Mike Straw: “Half-Life 3 is a Steam Machine launch title, Steam hardware set for Spring 2026”

Daily reminder that company policy is to reboot any Half-Life 3 project any time someone speaks confidently about Half-Life 3 plans, even if they're completely wrong.
I only make up the rules, I don't enforce them.

First leak was it would be exclusive to steam machine. That is 100 percent unlikely as steam is a PC and nothing is exclusive to any system.

Being a launch title is more plausible, but to be honest it's highly unlikely. They would have shown it by now to hype it up even more.

Doesn't really make any sense to blame it on DRAM pricing since it's a PC game and can't really be exclusive to the Steam Machine since it's a PC and Valve would be shooting themselves in the foot if they attempted to make it exclusive to that specific device.

They dont announce hl3 this year because of dram pricing. Hows that making any sense?
It makes literally zero sense, and completely undermines this rumor beyond any hint of credibility.

You really can't hype your hardware with a "console" that can play your game on any other PC. Unless it's a pack-in...

Oh. That makes sense. They did that with Alyx, didn't they? That would sweeten the Steam Machine.

He also said the reason behind HL3 not being announced this year is that Valve's worried about the economics of RAM memory prices and it's affect on the hardware.

Make it make sense

It makes sense to blame the lack of price and release date announcements for Steam Machine on the volatile DRAM market. If Valve is launching HL3 alongside Steam Machine then they that's how it is all tied together.

Why would they care that much about HW when HL3 will sell a shit-ton. They didn't announce the HW price because of the RAM price bullshit, but not announcing a launch game makes no sense. It wasn't announced because it isn't happening.

Launching a game alongside new hardware is incredibly common. It isn't necessary in this case, but if that is what Valve wants to do then that's a reasonable explanation. Makes a lot more sense than saying the game just isn't happening after all the leaks from multiple sources saying it is.

It's a preorder bonus but they can't decide the price/quantity of hardware, so they can't announce it before revealing the price and opening preorders for the Machine.
