True, but I don't think previous Bond movies had the massive stank that DCEU has on it. Also, the audience is turning away from superhero movies anyway. Any element that lets them attach new movies to previous failures is only going to make things worse.
The more recent movies have been pretty bad. And this is coming from a superhero fanboy! Ant-Man was pretty bad... Barely set up Kang as a real threat (too much tell, not enough show), no real stakes except for a bruised face, Wasp barely did anything, Ant-Man was talked down to by his daughter and we didn't see a progression of her becoming Stature... So much wrong with it!
By contrast, Dr. Strange 2, Spider-Man NWH, Guardians 3 and Wakanda Forever were arguably MUCH better movies and did GREAT at the box office (even if the only billion dollar movie was NWH, the others made their budgets back with profit)... Shang-Chi did pretty well during COVIDs second year (Aug 2021) when theaters were starting to open back up (lots of folks still afraid to be in closed spaces)... And it was well received by audiences... Even though Thor 4 made some bank, folks really turned sour on it because it wasn't a hit like Ragnarok. And believe it or not, nothing seemed connected anymore. Other than the post credit scene from Shang-Chi, it was like "So what's the overall story about? I don't get it", there was no apparent connection! Why wasn't Thor at least CONNECTING with his Avenger friends? Not even a phone call?
DC fared worse because nothing seemed to really gel with audiences... Suicide Squad tanked because it came out when things weren't going so well in 2021 with COVID... Everything else just ... Petered out. Folks soured on Ezra, it had been too long since Aquaman, Black Adam was tonally everywhere and no one knew if it was a comedy or serious (maybe too dark for DJ) ... Gunn is a Great writer so I have faith he's going to do right by Superman, Waller and Creature Commandos... Guardians 3 was SO DAMN GOOD!
