Maher is one of the weakest interviewers working in media today. Anyone who thought this was going to be anything other than Maher getting outmaneuvered by the troll has either never watched any of Maher's interviews or really hasn't been paying attention when they do watch them.

Thank god for Larry Wilmore, and fuck Comedy Central for removing him from the national media stage right when voices like his were needed most.

Usually I wouldn't care who went on the show but from the little I watched last week, Piers Morgan was getting the better of Maher. If he's going to have Yiannopoulos on his show please be agile enough to shut some of his nonsense down.

^ this was what I was worried about. Now I dread watching the show.

Disappointed in Maher here. He had a good opportunity to expose Milo, but he let Milo steer the conversation and trap him by focusing on things they agree on instead of holding Milo accountable for all the shit he's done. Seemed like he didn't have enough background research to really push any of his points. Every time he accused Milo of something, he backed down after Milo's sarcastic comebacks. I've seen Bill grill guests before, he didn't bring his A game here.

I mean he typically is damn good at what he does. I think he is so fucking high lately from self medicating in the new legal Cali weed scene during a Trump presidency he fucked up badly here and shit the bed. I mean this was very out of character for bill. Dude is all about liberal agenda. His really only big controversial thing is the Islam stuff which i can see why people both support and are very upset with it.

Maher has always been a bigoted piece of garbage.

I don't think Bill hate trans people or anything, but I hope he'll learn from this and adjust his viewpoints. Perhaps he'll invite a transgender activist on at some point?

Could have fooled me after tonight -- and he already has, he had Janet Mock on the panel quite some time ago.

Maher apparently literally went in to that interview with the goal of talking about the issues they both agree on instead of Milo's bigotry...

Did he seem like he got the picture she was trying to paint him? I only could find a clip where she goes into non-binary genders, which for someone that is mostly ignorant on the being transgender, would be something difficult to understand.

I had plenty of issues with The Nightly Show, but Larry Wilmore wasn't one of them. The man is a gem and he proved it on Overtime yet again. He seems like a genuinely nice guy who goes out of his way to be accommodating and friendly even with people who don't deserve it.

His show had plenty of problems, but when people said he was anti-white it blew my fucking mind. Larry is like a model human being. He's nice to a fault. It says a lot about the low character of anybody who would shit on him like he's some kind of bigot. And I say this as somebody who absolutely believes that racism isn't just limited to white people, or defined by a unilateral power structure.

I'm so glad Larry ate Milo's lunch and then shat it out on his doorstep.

If there's justice in the world of media he will be given another platform on a big network.

When Milo was saying he wanted to protect women and children from transgendered people because they were confused about who they were in the bathroom and Bill went, "Not entirely unreasonable" my jaw was on the floor.

Thank God for Larry Wilmore and the other guy beside him whose name escapes me (not the Republican who couldn't admit what shit voter fraud was).

Maher will impede the ease of these ideas by delegitimizing them through rational argument.
This is what passes for "rational argument" these days

You know what I'd like to see on Real Time? More minority viewpoints. And I don't mean Milo and his ilk. I mean if you're going to talk about liberal issues have more minority dominated panels. Have more Muslims on the show, not just the two you agree with (it'd be great if he got Reza Aslan, Majid Nawaz, Irshad Manji and Mehdi Hasan on the same panel). Has he ever had anyone from the transgender community on his show?

The protestors at UC Berkeley who shut Milo down ended up making him more famous, thus giving him an even bigger platform.

Streisand effect anyone?

The only takeaway from this is that Nance was on to something when he questions the possibility of Milo having some personality disorder himself.

If there's anything from tonight that I felt really hit Milo the hardest it was this. When Nance said that it looked like it really offended Milo to be accused of not knowing who he is, since his whole schtick is that he's unabashedly himself.

This would have been the perfect opportunity to bring someone on the show to debate Milo.

Wilmore had his chance with a comedy show and blew it.

Well he's a member of PETA, so what did you expect?

You're right Wilmore failed with not figuring out the type of show he wanted.

As for Maher, I don't believe being a member of PETA correlates with being anti-vaccination, but will shrug my shoulders if true.

Yeah he went in hard and fast with that. I mean, didnt even blink. Milo was rattled in the response.

I expected them to shut him down and they didn't or they couldn't. Milo came out of there looking ok at worst. They really only told him to fuck off literally. And that's probably the worst thing you can do when you share the same platform. Milo seemed to be in control throughout and I honestly think Maher helped him with that.

Note: I only watched the overtime part
How great is Larry Wilmore?
He was alright. I think he's the one who rightfully told him to fuck off when Milo said that the three other guest didn't have a decent IQ to discuss things. Unfortunately, though, that was his best moment.

Gotta deflect from Maher embarrassing himself.

It was more poking a joke at his oddly inconsistent stances that you normally would see from people who are obsessed with what they see as "natural". I don't know if there is a correlation, but if there was I wouldn't be surprised.

It's a shame about Wilmore's show. I didn't say what I said with happiness. I feel like he really could've made something great.

I never considered Bill Maher some sort of great intellectual liberal thinker. Then again I grew up reading Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Gore Vidal, and William Blum and of course John Dewey. I agree Milo is a cunt and transphobia is a bad thing. Perhaps its my age since I will be 40 this year, and not to say transgender rights is not an important issue because it is. But I do think it falls behind more immediate concerns such as environment, climate change, healthcare and access to healthcare, sexism, racism and of course classism or income inequality which is a primary contributing factor to nearly everyone of these issues and more.

God that overtime segment. I hated Bill before but this is too much. I don't care if he was high or his mom died or he was possessed by a ghost. That was sad as fuck.

Im telling you Bill has been high as fuck the last few episodes and he has admitted it, combo of the Trump nightmare and legal rec weed. Bill was always a softie with people. I mean im just sad right now cause the dude was one of the few i could look forward to every week in this trump nightmare thats giving me panic attacks and physical illness and he is playing footsie with Milo. He needs to apologize.

I'm sorry. Seriously. I was told a thing a long time ago that I took personal, but I understand it is a fact. Your heroes WILL disappoint you. The higher you hold some people, the harder the crash will be.

We've got to learn to separate the small positive nuggets from the whole. While I'd never say that the man hasn't had or made good points in the past, we gotta sit the fuck down and talk about the now. This isn't some "out of nowhere" thing. Some folks just weren't listening..

You gave a dumb reason.

He does in every fucking thread..shame on those who entertain him. You know..like Milo 😏

I totally agree but you have to take logistics into account. The line-up you suggest would be amazing, but people are busy and it's almost impossible to book a perfect group of people like that on any show. Especially when people like you put out aren't all Americans.

Part of the reason many shows gravitate to LA/NY/Chicago isn't just because the hosts live there or that's where the media is. It's because that's where people go to sell books or rub elbows. If production companies thought they could all of these shows would film in some tax haven like Canada. Even if it meant having the host flown in every week.

I'm not excusing bad guest selection, but there is an availability issue that so many people forget or are unaware of.

Well Gee thanks....

Trans rights are important they're just less important than literally everything else...

Meanwhile certain states are trying to turn trans folk going to the bathroom into a crime but sure let's fix the world before we fight that.

I guess I should be grateful you put us above animal rights though...

Honest question what compelled you to make public just how low you prioritize trans rights in response to a discussion about a transphobe and his transphobic comments?

He could at least get someone/anyone other than Sam Harris for once.

So on the ladder, where do you put trans rights?

Environment
Climate change
Healthcare
Access to healthcare
Sexism
Racism
Classism
Income inequality

Trans rights?

I might let this slide if you just said climate change, but all that other stuff? Really man? Is it that low of a priority for you? It's not even of equal importance?

I support trans rights. I just think having a clean and sustainable environment is more important because without one, we will not be here to even argue for trans rights. And healthcare access is a very personal issue for me because I suffer from a chronic illness. As far as fixing the world we can fight against all things that are aligned with social injustice or systems of oppression. We do not have to focus soley on one goal at a time.

Well question isnt directed at me but i would put the environmental shit at the very top, and then everything else kind of blends together as 2nd. Bill agrees with that at least. We need more people saying climate change is the biggest issue cause all else relies on it.

I agree that issues need to be prioritized to some extent based on impact and the ability to garner public support. Stuff like climate change, access to healthcare, and racism are certainly a better focus of very limited political capital than transgender rights.

But we can walk and chew gum at the same time. And the rights of that group is an extension of the big issue of sexism. It's not a zero sum game where we have to choose between doing right by a small oppressed group of transgender people and avoiding something as cataclysmic as nuclear holocaust.

We can and are morally obligated to do both. Even if resources are spent with an understanding of where they will have the greatest effect.

I am aware we can fight more than one thing: I was paraphrasing your list...

Why bother letting us know how you rank them, if you then say we can fight them all..

Like what was your point?

Bill completely rolled over lol

For a guy who swears that he "tells it like it is" he is not that far removed from the talking heads he makes fun of. Should've never bought into his bullshit

Er why did you even bring up how you don't care as much about trans rights when you just admitted we can focus on more than one thing? No one gives a shit about your personal ranking of social issues

I see your point.

I actually saw Wilmore speak right after the Presidential election. And it was a great cathartic release, not only was he killing it on stage for a non-comedic talk, but also was optimistic trying to appease to our sensibilities as most people were during November. I still believe that Larry would be a lot more successful heading The Daily Show with our current shit storm.

Yes, the bolded is true. Which is why it's weird that you came in here to explain how you think trans rights are lower on your priority list for no apparent reason.

heh. against?
People have the wrong idea about Maher's intentions and how his show works. He doesn't invite guests to attack them, at least not usually. He's also flexible on some social issues and despises 'SJW' types.

Milo did his homework and often retreated to common ground with Bill. I think he kinda likes Milo the same way he likes Ann Coulter. I get the vibe he recognizes them both as wild trolls who already get bashed all the time. So he approaches them differently than what they're used to from liberals, while going harder at more established types who should know better.

Does it matter though?

I support trans rights. I just think having a clean and sustainable environment is more important because

As a fellow 40 year old currently up at 11pm on a Friday visiting the off-topic section of a gaming forum:

Why are you ranking your social concerns like this?

Like, this is an issue in which people's basic human rights are being questioned and legislated against.

What possible utility did you think was going to come of making a list specifically to point out how many other issues "trans rights" is beneath?

So in other words Maher is useless....

Unbelievable that he calls himself part of the resistence....

Milo simply embarrassed Maher and further proved that the left has no argument to shut him down. Second best thing I've seen this week. First being that Trump press conference. Can't wait to read Milo's book when it's released in June.
