I never said that. I just said the Berkeley protests tried to silence him, which lead him to a national spotlight. I merely suggested that was not the right approach when dealing with someone you disagree with.

His consistent underlying argument is free speech, that something I think everyone should be for.
I don't agree with alot of what he says, but he has a right to say it.

Right here, it looks like you imply I have an opposing view to this and you need to defend his rights to me. You don't. We do agree on one thing, those protests happening the way they did sure propelled him. However, I don't fault the protesters who acted in defense of their fellow students from hate speech.

No it did not at all.

Why is this being said? He was already very well know.

This is a graph of people searching his name on google. That small peak above the "14" is him being banned from twitter, the large spike correlates to the Berkeley incident.

Edit: Beaten but i went to the effort of posting an image of the graph.

Google trends begs to differ.

A very simple question, for those who think that debating Nazis in the correct tactic: Would you extend the same courtesy to, say, a pedophilia advocate? If someone invited a pedophilia advocate to a college campus(and you knew that at the event, the pedophilia advocate would name specific children they desired to abuse), would you defend that person's right to speak as "free speech" and say that liberals need to "calm down" and "debate the argument, not the person"? Would Bill Maher invite a pedophilia advocate on his show?

If your answer is no, then you should understand why Milo should not be given a platform. Because Nazis and pedophilia advocates are morally equivalent.

I'd give the pedophile a platform over the nazi. They tend to be nebbish and pathetic and literally no one likes them.

Well thats great we can agree, however I don't think shutting down streets, beating people up and burning things qualifies as a defense against someone who's sole purpose is to agitate and "troll". They just proved milos point about college campuses turning into places where discussions are being squashed by violence. Violence only leads to more violence and more talking points for the conservative talk show hosts.

They will use lies, no resistance and resistance as talking points. There is no winning against that because they don't need reality as talking points.

He was well known to the gaming community maybe, because of gamergate, but people outside the gaming community gave a fuck about that. GG was not on everyone's radar, mostly because of the name.

You got riots at a college over a "guy wanting to give a speech at a college"

Then yeah, now your parents and family know who he is.

The problem is the word Nazi is being thrown around losing its meaning daily. People you want on your side associate nazi with ultimate evil. People are calling him a nazi in an effort to hurt his image. As stated in this thread the guy is not dumb, he will draw comparisons between himself and the Nazi's from WW2 and be like "see? Not a nazi" and then people will be like "wow what a dick but he's right"

Meanwhile, a pedophile gets labeled due to getting arrested and charged for that crime.

Do you mean that Milo is a proponent of Nazism? Am I correct to assume that it is that picture with him wearing an iron cross that proves that connection?

So what happened to exposing Milo for the good of the liberal cause.

Fuck Maher. He let some slimy, insidious transphobia slither past unchecked, unchallenged, then added his own for good measure with the "weirdos peeing" comment, apparently just for the lulz.

Fuck that and fuck him.

Nah, that's just further confirmation. The proof of him being a Nazi is that he espouses and acts out the philosophy of fascists.

Good show. Agreed with Milo about the bait thing, which is actually something Ive been thinking about for a long time no, so it's not a new thought for me.

We discussed that earlier. Milo is just a white supremacist who dedicates his life to bullying and spreading anti-Semitic,sexist and racist views, who happens to wear German war memorabilia, names himself after a composer who was essentially used to provide the audio for the Nazi movement.

But not a Nazi.

Good! Nice with some corroborating evidence and all. We wouldn't want to go out on a witch hunt and accuse people of having extreme views that they really don't hold!

You're conflating the protestors and the antifa idiots who turned up and caused all the violence, by doing so you're parroting the rights, and Milos, spin on what happened. Bravo.

Edit: and we're back to dictionary definitions of nazism. Well I suppose it stops the free speech warriors from having to confront the heinous shite Milo has done in the past.

Witch hunts. Something the "Pro Free Speech" advocate Milo would never engage in.

Poor Milo, so missunderstood.

To everyday people who don't post on message boards? Yes it has.

Sorry, I know that sucks, and it's not fair but that's the world we live in.
Some of you cant be serious.
Man, we have to seperate how in touch we are, posting online everyday, multiple times a day, to people who only know how to do a status update on Facebook. We are going to be more intuned to the happenings of the world than the majority. So yeah, gamergate was not really on people's radars like you think it was.

No.

And yes, he is.
How can you compare a gay jew to the people who wiped out a majority of my family? I wouldn't be here today if my great grandmother didn't hide in the woods and be smuggled out of poland after REAL nazis shot her dad and brother and stole our fucking land. Your doing a massive disservice to the people who have had generations of family members wiped out by REAL fascists. Don't normalize Nazi please, because they are anything but normal.

I love the way these debates always go, with the people so quick to fight the good fight and make sure nobody calls someone like Milo bad names.

No wait I don't love it... Hate, that's the word, I fucking hate it.

Some of you need to take your heads out your asses and get a fucking grip.

No.

And yes, he is.
I know you don't actually have evidence that he is a Nazi, because he isn't one. He's never spoken about the superiority of white ethnicity. (Western culture: yes)

So I wonder what the appeal of calling him a Nazi is. Easy dismissal of him, I suppose?

But it isn't working.

You shouldn't apply your limited scope to humanity at large.

Because reasons.

Is he not wrong most people probably didn't know or care about the leslie jones stuff. Plus people have the memory of a goldfish at times

Yeah, he's wrong just like when he tried to act like his caring less about other people as he got older was some universal truth that happens for everyone in a previous thread.

There are people who are capable of juggling multiple thoughts at once and ignorance should not be defended or romanticized

Just watched the interview and I should preface that my first introduction to anything this person has done.

I thought watching him on Maher would provide a neutral perspective; Maher wants to provide opportunity of free speech and Milo gets a platform.

That being said, this person is a walking ball of nonsense. Why people give him the time of day, I just don't understand.

So when on this very same forum we talk about how online communities "we are not the majority" when it comes to video game sales and purchases.....how the rest of the world is not in tune.

Suddenly we are larger when talking about Milo and gamergate?

No, we are still the same number unfortunately

What I hate about Milo is that whenever he's interviewed he spins every opinion he has. He can go on Twitter and say "Black people should die", and then he won't even acknowledge it when questioned. With idiots like Fred Phelps you at least knew who they were no matter where you got your information, but people like Milo you have to investigate from top to bottom to understand how much hatred they carry.

It's scary. A co-worker sent me a Milo post on Facebook, and then it turns out the guy had no idea about the horrible shit Milo says and does. My co-worker is a very progressive guy, so he was appalled when he really found out who Milo is.

What does storm front think of milo?
Do they accept him for being gay and jewish?
Serious question. I personally don't want to head over myself. I don't want to give them clicks.

The "we" you're imagining does not include me

Is this about him wearing an iron cross? Listening to Wagner? Lame evidence. He reminds me of every kid I ever knew in junior high who drew a swastika in the bathroom stall. It's not like he's a famously provocative troll who loves to get a rise out of people or anything.

Regardless of our pure conjecture that he is secretly a person who'd salute "Hail Hydra" to the right white supremacist... I don't think the term "Nazi" describes his public positions or what he has come to represent as a public figure. I don't think it works to combat him, at all.

I think it's a bad strategy to label him a Nazi when that's not what he's actually saying. I think it serves liberal self-satisfaction to just dismiss him as a Nazi, while it won't do shit in the public sphere, because it doesn't address his actual role.

I hate Milo, I'd love him defeated, and I think the "he's a Nazi" strategy is a losing tactic. Not unless you actually have facts that would make him persona non grata as this attack is trying to accomplish.

He's not a kid, and he's not in junior high. He's a grown man now deeply involved in politics, wearing the iron cross, knowing exactly what it means.

I see where Maher is going with having him on the show to have a first-person exposure to the kind of person he is and what his motivations are.

Then again, when he defends his position on the Ghostbusters thing, he claims "Leslie Jones looks like a dude, because she does." That's just downright petty. Using Joan Rivers as an example is completely out of place, because she mocked others for the laughs and always with a degree of respect, Milo fucks off respect and attacks people just to be in the eye of the tornado at any expense.
