Mission Impossible 2 seemed like the producers came up with the action sequences before they had any idea for a story (imagine some producer writing on a napkin: MEN ON BIKES JUMP OFF THEM AND THEN COLLIDE IN MIDAIR!!) Then they hired the screenwriter to come up with some half-assed way to stitch them together.

MI1 had an excellent screenplay, though.

Actually IIRC it really did go something like that.... IIRC John Woo came on to the project with certain action sequences he wanted to incorporate in to the flick, then I kinda went from there... I can't remember where I got that from... maybe one of the behind the scenes items on the DVD?

I didn't suck because of Cruise, it sucked because of John fucking Woo. Had he ever directed a spy flic previously? They're not just pure action movies.
